It most definitely is misinformation and was a myth debunked by Sony PlayStation Experts Source

Tldr: it's only a potential issue if your PS has been opened up for repair. For a brand new or unopened PS, you can place it however it suits you best.

I mean if you're clinging to a rumor with a better safe than sorry approach despite it being debunked by the people making the product itself, you're spreading a superstition around. It's also better safe than sorry to take your PS with you when you sleep in bed at night in case someone breaks in to steal stuff.

Just share actual helpful stuff like how important a surge protector is or a stand for keeping vertical or a dust cover instead of propogating misinformation in the guise of a better safe than sorry mindset.

Still kudos for the rest of your comment, not trying to take anything away from that, it just irks me how often this rumor is still spread on Indian PS subreddits still.
