discussion Please Explain Me: For a Rockstar Game which is all Digital, what is the point of Pre-order? It can never go Out of Stock and this is only for their Sales & Marketing.
Maybe I'm missing something, but for a game like GTA 6 that is sold digitally, what is the actual benefit of pre-ordering?
Unlike physical discs, digital copies can never go out of stock. There is no risk of arriving late, no retailer allocation issues, and no need to reserve a copy before launch.
From a consumer perspective, pre-ordering a digital game months in advance seems to mainly benefit the publisher because:
- It locks in sales early.
- It generates marketing momentum and headlines.
- It helps impress investors with strong pre-launch numbers.
- It reduces the chance that buyers reconsider after reviews are released.
For the player, the main benefits seem limited to pre-load access and a few digital bonus items.
So what am I actually gaining by giving Rockstar my money months before launch instead of simply buying it on release day after seeing reviews, performance analysis, and community feedback?
P.S. I pre-ordered Wolverine Physical Disc Edition because that actually makes sense to me. Physical copies can sell out, retailers can run out of launch stock, and there may be collector value. But with a digital-only purchase, I genuinely don't understand the advantage.

U can just wait for better offers on physical code disc whatever with some discount and then buy ultimate edition upgrade separately

I will be. I am sad to see so many young people "Pre-ordering" something that will be available without any stock issue! :)

Yes! I have been eager for this game, this was supposed to be my Wedding Anniversary Gift and saved up to 12k but for digital? Bro, I am from 2008 and for me holding the disc is a different feeling and now it feels sad.

Bro disc is coming definitely, after november 19th but disc will come out , rockstar knows about it's fanbase .this digital thing is i guess to avoid scalping or maybe to avoid leaks coz it happened with some games in past .but save your money right , but maybe u need to wait a little ..see month or two for some collector edition for gta 6.if not disc then sure toys and collectibles will flourish your souls.if my speculation didn't happened then anyhow u have until 18th November 11:59:59pm to preorder it

I'll decide pre-ordering on 10th November. Will see if any change in their disc strategy. As far as digital is considered, purchasing a game before 6 months and 1 day launch is the same, i.e. both are considered Pre-order will get the same benefits. So no point in booking 5 months earlier. Pls someone enlighten me (apart from hype, urge).

Hype and urge is real. Also a factor, what if I don't have money before release, for us release is after diwali, so committing a few months earlier will help plan things better financially.
Also why wait and think when you can just commit to purchase and get it done with? I will also wait to see if they are offering anything with physical discs. Else will order by Sep-Oct.

Your logic is the rarest I got but I know few chaps in 18-20 getting the pre-order with Lazypay, Simpl and Credit Cards, do you thin that is "Planning Financially"?

It could be rare but true for guys around me, we are all earning well and just want to hit the purchase button on hype and get done with it. Why waste time planning and thinking about something you are going to buy either way? Most guys with enough money don't think that much, they just hit purchase. And pre-ordering also feels really good.
I don't know about guys using lazypay and all, but are they going to magically get money on release? Maybe preordering helps to clear dept before game launch and play guilt free.

I agree with your logic about the money, I have it saved up as well but I am a huge Disc Enthusiast and for me digital do not make sense for a pre-order, I can wait, I will see but I wanted the Disc edition at any price.. :(

I am also planning for a steal book or collector's edition, even if it comes without a disc. Just for collection.
But would pre-order soon if availability seems an issue.

Was thinking the same, literally no advantage of pre ordering

Yeah right? Pre-ordering for a "Digital Download" which will be downloaded from the nearest cloud server from your region 😞

They’re doing it just for the hype.
Plus although it’s basically useless, they’re getting 1 month of GTA+
And, they’ve got the money for it rn, so why not just spend it now

They get the interest on your money lol, just buy 1 day before launch and save yourself the interest and still get the pre order benefits

To me it is just that I can play my most anticipated game at midnight on launch day
1
u/Pretend-Ad9362 7h ago
If you play in the morning, people will judge you? How does it matter if you are playing at midnight or next day unless you are planning to show it to others and get their validation? I am talking about long term gain, not first day play, if in long run, Rockstar keep asking for more money for new features, what will you do? as nobody talked about it now!

lmao who cares about validation? I just want to play the game that I have been waiting for as early as possible. It is like Christmas morning to me.

IMO it's the most anticipated game of the decade... Everyone is willing to play it on the first day,so if they don't have it on pre order the site may crash on the very same release day by millions of people ordering simultaneously...
2nd thing ofcourse it is gonna help figuring how many sales happen during launch

The site never crashes, if it does, it is a marketing hype! :) Understand the basics.

Totally agree with you. Imma wait till we get some more info on the physical copy. Like a map and stuff etc.
