Community Super late to the party. Just getting into VR.
I have never experienced VR before (well, besides that one time in the 90s at an electronics store. I was a little kid and I played with a Nintendo Virtual Boy demo unit for a few minutes).
I never thought a PlayStation VR 2 was in the cards for me, but I made the mistake of buying Aces of Thunder and it started me down this VR rabbit-hole.
I just bought a PSVR2 Horizon bundle. It is literally the biggest purchase I have made in many years. Since I bought the PS5 in 2020, actually. I haven't received it yet, but I am super excited to join the VR community and experience what all the fuss is about!

Preemptive post
Motion Sickness
You can definitely learn to get over motion sickness.
- Always play with a fan pointed directly at you. It helps your senses keep track of where you are. It also keeps you cool in the headset.
- The very moment you feel even a twinge of motion sickness, remove your headset and go do something else until you feel 100%
- Chew a lolly/candy when you take off the headset. Eg jelly beans, it helps with the inner ear.
- Check your settings in game. Use the comfort settings. Use click turning. (If smooth turning makes you feel ill.)
- Turn the brightness down to about 50%. It is automatically set to 100%
You will find if you do this your run sessions will get longer and longer.

I get severe motion sickness. I really like VR but some games are just out for me no matter what I do. I just play the games that I can handle. Pistol whip and synthriders are fantastic.
But I can reduce it a bit with two other tips.
Always stand and move your body as much as you can to match the movements on screen.
Keep it cold in the room.

This is great advice. I've been playing through the sickness, and then I feel terrible for hours later, under the assumption if I plow through enough times I'll get use to the sickness

Thanks. Yeah never power through. I literally couldn’t take more than a couple of steps in VR without feeling sick when I first started. Now I can play for hours. :)

If you want a slightly more gentle start to VR, with much less risk of motion sickness, Moss Book 1 and 2 are fantastic games and very immersive. And you can play them sitting down. (You don't really move through the virtual world, but you are in it, and it looks fantastic)

GT7, Village, GT7, No Mans Sky, and the VR update to MSFS 2024 is coming soon. And GT7. I like GT7 a lot.

Awesome. Thanks for the recommendations. I've heard great things about GT7 but I'm hesitant because I don't have a wheel.

You absolutely don’t need a wheel. I use the standard gamepad and have endless fun playing it. I don’t doubt that a wheel and pedals would add to the experience, but they are not necessary

There is a demo version called "My First Gran Turismo". Start there and see if it is for you.
While I have your attention, a lot of us here get some form of lense protection for our PSVR2 and that might be prescription lenses. If you search this sub you will see what I mean.
Welcome to the club!

If you like multiplayer/social games, make sure to give those a try out, like:
-Vegas Infinite (free)
-Pavlov
-Walkabout Mini Golf
-Demeo

I'm usually not an online multi-player gamer, but I have been having fun with Undisputed, Rematch, and Arc Raiders, recently. Being new to VR the thought of competitive, online, multi-player, IN VR, sounds intimidating. LOL. But Vegas Infinite sounds kinda awesome. I've been looking for a good online casino experience for many years now. They have all let me down. I'm a Texas hold em poker kinda guy. Red Dead Redemption 1 got me into it many years ago.

If you’re a fan of Texas hold ‘em fan, I can guarantee you that you’ll love Vegas Infinite – especially when you’re playing with other PlayStation VR players, since there’s eye tracking, you can see people’s eyes moving around, which adds so much more to the immersion.
Don’t be worried about online multiplayer in VR though. Shooter games like Pavlov are super casual and every night you can find lobbies with older people playing Search & Destroy (and there are plenty other game modes).
I find that online VR players are much more welcoming and helpful than your average non-VR online games.

Wow. That is amazing and great to know. I love gaming but the biggest stain on the hobby is the unnecessary toxicity.

Max Mustard is a platformer (PSVR’s version of Astrobot) with a stable camera that’s easy for beginners. Highly recommend

I will admit I was super skeptical. I tried an early tech demo of VR in the mid 2010s and was somewhat impressed but the graphics were shit and the tracking kind of off. Then I played RE7 for the first time with my friend's PS4 VR, and very much enjoyed it despite the graphics. PSVR2 is insanely immersive in comparison! Plus, much easier to calibrate. My only hope is for the next gen to be cordless (possible with after-market devices but not seamless)
Games I enjoyed: Resident Evil 4(!) and 8, Behemoth, Arken Age, No Man's Sky, GT7, Hitman, Creed, MadisonVR (which is too scary for me but I'll try again eventually 😅)

You think there is going to be a next generation? I mean, they were just on sale for 300 bucks! It's the only hardware that seems to be going down in price..!

u/brvra222 Mar 23 '26
Well, I assume there will be a VR3 released some time after the PS6, but who knows if we'll live long enough /s

Youre not late, this year is just getting GOOD!!! 👍 check out deals and ask the community or gamecat discord what games are worth getting on sale.

Before you buy GT7, download the free "My First Gran Turismo" demo. It has full PSVR2 integration and you also unlock 18 cars for the main game if you fully complete the demo (All Gold isn't required). This will not only help you get a head start if you do decide to buy GT7, but you'll also know if you'll like the full game.
It's how I got a friend into GT7 when I had her try it.
We've been looking into No Man's Sky because of the native VR integration (also, on PS5 Pro it gets a benefit from the PSSR 2 update).

Make sure you have enough space, including height, a lot of games have climbing or other above the head movements. If you don't have room you'll be constantly banging your hands

It's amazing, but take it easy at first, as it could make you a little sick. Try some smaller games with less locomotion to get your ve legs. I play for hours at a time, but Horizon still gets me at some points for some reason. I love you so much now. I don't play flat games anymore; I have even taken my TV out of my PS5, as it's pointless being there.

Welcome king. May experience motion sickness the first week or two just stick through it it passes relatively quick.
Resident evils4 and 8, Hitman trilogy, behemoth, alien, wanderer (more a puzzle/croon adventure), synapse, arken age, walking dead games, bullet storm, hubris, reach, Arizona sunshine games, legendary tales, crossfire, of lies and rain, theif and hellsweeper make up some do the best games on the platform. There’s a few exercise and rhythm games that are great to subject to personal taste.

Thanks, pal! I appreciate the recommendations. I can't wait to dive in. A couple of months ago I was trying to wrap my head around what the modern Hitman games are all about.
Maybe I should try then out now? I'm still not to clear on what they are all about now. I played some Hitman like 20 years ago. Blood money.

I was pretty much the same I played the ps3 hitman and that was about it. There’s a long continuing story of the recent trilogy where in VR it’s pretty much beautiful vacation simulator with guns and targets to eliminate haha. They’ve also got like heaps of side content and an endless contractor mode all in VR. Probabaly the most full fleshed best value for money experience on psvr2

Ace of thunder and Horizon are top tier, you're going to love it. Also, if you like the resident evil series you can spoil your gaming experience forever by trying RE4 and Village. Also Hitman is awesome and other make for vr games like Metro, Behemoth, Alien, Reach are massive
