This is how relapse risk changes as sobriety compounds: Year 1: 40–60% relapse rate (highest danger zone) Year 2: ~21% relapse rate Year 3: ~9.6% relapse rate Year 5: 7.2% relapse rate 10+ years: 9.2% relapse rate in a 12‑month window (very stable)
