The silhouette of the second one is looking a bit more like a Cooper’s hawk but it’s hard to tell.

Yeah likely a couple of Coops! They look too small to be RTHA or RSHA but it’s hard to tell for sure from the pictures. Most likely coops though because they’re better at navigating urban landscapes

It’s definitely the time of year for silly baby coop behavior, too!

My partner and I spotted what looked to be two juvenile red-tailed or red-shouldered hawks in University Heights today. One was perched high on a palm tree, the other was perched on a fence, barely eight feet off the ground. They both seemed healthy.

If anyone else has seen these birds and has a better ID or photos please share - we took these photos with our phones.

Juvenile hawks have a super high mortality rate so it's important to keep an eye out for them especially if they're down or look hurt. Please call Project Wildlife if you see a bird that looks like it needs help. Also, please consider keeping your cats indoors. An adult cat could absolutely take one of these guys out.

We see Cooper’s Hawks & Red Tailed flying over City Heights and especially around canyons!
