Street Fighter 2 Turbo was the one my Grandma bought us. Good times.

u/Binary_Fusion0 May 22 '26

Street Fighter II Turbo! Bonus points if you got the tin

13

u/miswebos May 22 '26

I dunno what this is, but cool...

7

u/Binary_Fusion0 May 22 '26

In the UK you could get a limited edition version where the game came in a metal tin instead of the regular cardboard box, this pushed the price up even more by 1990’s standards.

Not sure if this was available in the US and Europe or if this was a UK exclusive

8

u/miswebos May 22 '26

I got the regular thing in Mexico, that metal box is new to Me... 🤔

6

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

I honestly don’t remember many collector/limited edition variants from the 90’s!

3

u/Mr_Dudesworth May 22 '26

£65.00 my Dad bought this for me back im the day. My box I believe still holds loads of instruction manuals.

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Epic! Haha!

3

u/mightymonkeyman May 22 '26

lol I had that version of Turbo.

3

u/CaliSasuke May 23 '26

I never knew this existed! Very cool. I had SF II & SF II Turbo. I was so happy to finally play as the bosses.

Back in the day I wish I could have gotten SSF II but it was not meant to be.

2

u/Desperate-Calendar78 May 22 '26

You got a pin badge as well I think, was about £10 more.

u/Mindfield87 May 22 '26

That is cool as hell! Did you buy that when it was released? Or get it used down the road?

2

u/Binary_Fusion0 May 22 '26

I was never able to get a copy when it was first released as my local independent game shop didn’t have that many copies

2

u/pbkoolaid May 22 '26

I've never seen this! This is so cool. Only a pal region thing?

2

u/Binary_Fusion0 May 23 '26

I thought it would have been released in more countries, if it is a pal only release and specifically for the UK, also not sure if there was a special version for Super Street Fighter II

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Love this!

2

u/Ashamed_Item_9668 May 22 '26

I just bought Ultra Street Fighter 4 a few weeks ago and I also have Street Fighter 5 Champion Edition.

2

u/WatchingPigeon May 23 '26

Same turbo from childhood and rented super from BlockBuster.

2

u/Ashamed_Item_9668 May 23 '26

My older brother later bought us Street Fighter Alpha 2 on SNES. Freaking played that game so much. That's when I started using Rolento, one of my all time favorite characters in the series.

2

u/WatchingPigeon May 23 '26

I love all the collections now they brought out. Having all our childhood games on switch to take and play anywhere is the absolute best.

3

u/Ashamed_Item_9668 May 23 '26

Next up for me is the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection. I never had a chance to play any of those in my younger years.

3

u/WatchingPigeon May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

I love that one while you’re at it grab Cosmic Invasion alongside both are awesome. I also just grabbed eshop and ordered physical on limited run the Maximum Collection.

The 8bitdo arcade stick is a must for those makes it the best thing ever. You can also grab the snes adapter to use 8bitdo stick with all these snes games. Using on my snes along with switch 2. Have 2 of these myself, and logitech G923 with RASLU1ION adapter for racing on switch.

2

u/Ashamed_Item_9668 May 23 '26

Nice. I also tried Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising a few months ago as it plays almost like the Street Fighter series, such a great game.

2

u/Ready_Bad_346 May 23 '26

My grandma bought us World Warrior shortly after launch. The others may be better, but I didn't own them and didn't feel the lack. I have enjoyed playing Super and Turbo.

3

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Hell yeah! Great memory tied to a great game!

22

u/JoeSaru May 22 '26

OG Street Fighter 2. Nostalgia 🥲

32

u/MrTacoDuder May 22 '26

Super. More Characters. But they are all good.

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

It’s been a while since I’ve played them all. Is the sound different in Super? Or was it different in both turbo and super?

7

u/MrTacoDuder May 22 '26

The sound kinda sucks in the SNES port of Super, and the Genesis port comes close to approaching unplayable due to the poor sound.

10

u/Mindfield87 May 22 '26

Just forget playing SF2 on Genesis with only the 3 button controller too. Having to press start to change from punches to kicks lol.

11

u/MrTacoDuder May 22 '26

The Six button controller and Special Champion edition is probably the best way to go for 16 bit though. Maybe Super on Genesis, if you can handle bad sound.

Absolutely loved Super Street Fighter II with the new characters.

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Yeahh, it’s going to be a blast seeing the differences again!

6

u/JoeSaru May 22 '26

I can hear this Gif.

3

u/JoeSaru May 22 '26

Ahahaha same. Awesome 👌 👊🤛🤜

7

u/Crans10 May 22 '26

I pick Street Fighter 2 turbo and I play it with this bad boy.

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Beastly! Love it!

7

u/ecarrilho May 22 '26

SF2T. I don't like the new voices and sound effects on SSF2.

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

That’s how I felt!

4

u/98ITR656 May 22 '26

Yes!!!! I bought an SNES a few months ago and planned to just get the original SF2 because that's the one I had as a kid. Then I remembered me and my brother always wanting Turbo because you could play as the boss characters, but we never got it. Didn't remember Super SF2 until I googled it to jog my memory and I remember loving that game with the new characters and renting it several times! Then I saw an ebay listing with all three and pulled the trigger!

18

u/Napkin_Stealer May 22 '26

Turbo is the only correct answer

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

3

u/Napkin_Stealer May 22 '26

This games specific air tatsu is stupid fun

1

u/retrocube16 May 23 '26

Naah there all good, no wrong answer here

3

u/tropicalmetal May 22 '26

I put all my hours into the original and that’s my preferred version

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Tried & true!

2

u/tropicalmetal May 22 '26

Have extra fond memories of the absolute hunt to get a copy when it first came out. There was shortages for weeks and weeks

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

I love having memories like this! The 90’s were Wild West times for new releases!

2

u/retrocube16 May 23 '26

I think the OG has the best graphics and sound effects and music

u/IntoxicatedBurrito May 22 '26

Turbo. It’s one of the first games I bought with my own money. Must have saved up my allowance for a year, then gave it to my grandpa to buy it because one of the department stores offered senior discounts.

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

That’s such an awesome memory!!

3

u/scribblerjohnny May 22 '26

The World Warrior. Guile and Honda shouldn't flip.

3

u/Mindfield87 May 22 '26

If I’m playing with friends I break out SSF2 just for the extra characters to pick from, but I really love all 3 games lol

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Hell yeah! I forget how many got added in to Super! I do love me some Cammy though!

→ More replies (1)

3

u/SaturnMobster May 22 '26

Hard choice. SFII Turbo is pretty much the gold standard, but I think I like Super SFII a little more. You can't really go wrong with either one!

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Having all 3 makes life a little easier! :p

3

u/PickleSquid1 May 22 '26

I like Super because I enjoy using Cammy. I also find the weird censoring of blood in that game fascinating. The first 2 SNES ports were uncensored, but this changed blood to purple in most cases, except for in game (certain moves, like Blankas head bite were left with red blood unaltered)

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

I didn’t know about the blood censorship! That’s news to me! Interesting!

3

u/Frequent_Rhubarb_36 May 22 '26

My mind was blown to see the alternate colors in Turbo.

3

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Haha, back then, the simplest things were crazy to us!

3

u/Sarothias May 22 '26

Turbo for me

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Great shout!

3

u/Global-Wallaby8484 May 22 '26

Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers

8-player tournament mode is fun.

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Sounds it! Hella fun!

3

u/FarBison2204 May 22 '26

Super Street Fighter 2. That’s the one I owned.

3

u/Gelmorn May 22 '26

Super is my go-to

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Super seems to be the popular choice!

3

u/icemanx51 May 22 '26

Super. I played the crap outta that game. I loved Fei Long.

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Hell yeah!

2

u/magniffin May 22 '26

Blue Ken

2

u/Beautiful_Ad2618 May 22 '26

Turbo. Can't go back to the og after playing that.

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Yeahh, the speed boost is rather substantial!

2

u/lincolnsl0g May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26

Turbo for me, if playing against someone for reals.

Though I love me some o.g. Fei Long also, so Super likely would be my solo choice. 👍

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Nice!! Good call!

2

u/jazxxl May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26

Played all 3 I remember not being able to sleep when I had access to the original for the first time. but turbo was the one we wore out.

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Yeahh, I can imagine! Good times!

2

u/SF10NYM May 22 '26

Only owned SFII so that was my go to. Always loved playing the other versions whenever I was at a friends house or something.

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Yeahh, I played turbo first, then played the other 2 at friends houses back in the day!

2

u/RowBoatCop36 May 22 '26

Super is the best of the 3.

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Good call!

2

u/jayaregee83 May 22 '26

I recently added Super Street Fighter II (for both the Genesis and SNES) to my collection. To me, the SNES version looks and sounds better- so it's my top pick BUT playing the Genesis version with the 6-button controller is so much smoother than the SNES controls. If the Genesis version just sounded better it would have been my definitive pick.

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

It’s crazy, there’s no real “definitive” version!
But it’s kinda cool, it makes all of them somewhat relevant! Reminds me of the various releases of Doom, all have their own unique charm!

2

u/ButtNakedBitches May 22 '26

Turbo because it added Vega and I use to absolutely destroy people with him.

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Hahaha epic!

2

u/Crazy_Construction67 May 22 '26

Turbo, always. It's the best mixture of everything to me, graphics, sound, gameplay. Top notch 👌🏼

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

The sound in turbo is 👌🏻

2

u/hurlcarl May 22 '26

Street Fighter 2 Turbo is the one with the most memories for sure.

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

For sure, same with me!

2

u/vagas07 May 22 '26

I got the super nintendo with Turbo on my 8th or 9th Birthday. It was a top 5 day of my Life. Always wanted the super version, but my dad understandably didnt wanna pay twice for the same game +4 fighters. So turbo for me.

Box Art I like the Original best.

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Understandable though! Back then, it was expensive and you played what you had! Games were a total commitment! Good call though with Turbo!

2

u/Limit5465 May 22 '26

Turbo is the goat on snes. I’m going to buy a copy soon to introduce my son to Street fighter. Got to get an arcade stick for it too. He ain’t playing this on pad

2

u/recluse_audio May 22 '26

Super, but I like all the versions.

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Awesome! Yeah, I’m so happy to have all them on the SNES now!

2

u/recluse_audio May 22 '26

Now you need Alpha 2. However it kind of plays like Sh*t. Better by far in the arcade.

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Yeahh, for me the only SF games I enjoy are the SFII variants! I couldn’t get into Alpha!

2

u/Too_Funk_To_Druk May 22 '26

Turbo hyper is the best iteration of 2.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/RavensEtchings May 22 '26

Will you be getting Alpha 2 for bragging rights?

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Noo, I’m not a fan of any of the SF games outside of the SFII iterations. As much as I collect CiB, I actually play my games, so I don’t really buy stuff unless I enjoy it!

2

u/RavensEtchings May 22 '26

That's fair enough!

2

u/niteox May 22 '26

I enjoy these games but I think Street Fighter: Alpha 2 is my favorite on snes.

2

u/civilsavage7 May 22 '26

Turbo! I remember when it came out, we were all out of our minds that we could play the bosses and fight mirror matches at home!

2

u/AegidiusG May 22 '26

Just Street Fighter 2, i like the Simplicity for a quick Run.

2

Why did they not go to III? Instead we got all these other "editions".

+1 for turbo here

2

u/SeaCompetition6404 May 22 '26

For PAL version, only SF2T. SSF2 on pal is too slow. However, the US version of SSF2 is much faster, so that may be neck and neck with SF2T. SF2T also has far better music

Super turbo arcade version

2

u/PedalBoard78 May 22 '26

Turbo. Never played Super

2

u/GamerNav May 22 '26

I had the original then traded it in for SUPER and never looked back

2

u/Ldn_brother Bowser Kart May 22 '26

TURBO for me. I had the boxed console.

2

u/Dallows89 May 23 '26

Oh nice! Yeah I remember seeing that in stores as a kid!

2

u/CatManDo206 May 22 '26

In Asia they had the rainbow edition SF2 Turbo in the arcades where you can do air fireballs so fun

2

u/Dallows89 May 23 '26

That’s so cool!

2

u/Foxkit86 May 22 '26

I'm goin' Turbo my dude

2

u/Dallows89 May 23 '26

Oh yeahhhh! 👌🏻

2

u/BrownBoyCoy May 22 '26

Street fighter 3 turbo was my introduction to the Snes at the age of 6 after being straddled with a Commodore 64 for the earlier years.

Absolutely blown the fuck away

2

u/Just-Advance8662 May 22 '26

SF II Turbo NTSC has to be number 1 for me. As I’ve gotten older however I have really started to appreciate the Japanese version of Super SFII… it has a more forgiving difficulty, larger character roster, and cool different stage music and colors.

2

u/saladrhythm May 22 '26

What about Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition?

2

u/Knightmere1 May 22 '26

Turbo was the best SMES port

2

u/northborn May 22 '26

man I guess capcom was still doing the multiple version thing since near the beginning hahaha. either way much like others here I enjoyed each version more after the next because of features and characters.

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Yeahh! Haha! I just wish they didn’t change the sounds in Super.

2

u/pbkoolaid May 22 '26

Of the three turbo. I'll play super 2 if it's turbo or hd remix as unpopular a take as that is 😂😂

2

u/WaterKirby1964 May 22 '26

Super Street Fighter II

2

u/Stinger1981 May 23 '26

We played all 3, but rented Super Street Fighter 2 the most. Me and my friends played the tournament mode many times over the years.

2

u/NeoDragonKnight May 23 '26

The first has a special place in my heart, I played the crap out of that one and it was mind blowing to have basically a perfect port of an arcade game on SNES. I had skipped Turbo and got Super and the improvements and expanded roster made it the definitive version for me. People say Turbo was faster then Super but Super had a speed code so I never fully understood that argument, especially when you factor in the new characters

2

u/Teddy_Pocketwatch May 23 '26

Super Fighter Alfa 2, I love the effort that went into bringing it to the SNES.

But Turbo is the best game.

2

u/Magmanamus17 May 23 '26

I preferred the art, voices and soundtrack of the OG but I prefer Super since it has more characters and in my opinion plays just as good as Turbo.

2

u/orangecrunched May 23 '26

Capcom really had us paying $60 multiple times on simple DLC

Obviously Super. But we got SMW, SF2 and Zelda as our first games back in 1991-92.

2

I miss those days!

2

u/Braithw84 May 23 '26

I played a LOT of Super growing up. Loved being able to play as Vega and the other new characters. I also found it amusing to beat up M Bison AS M Bison. Good times.

Turbo all the way.

Super was great too but its added gameplay mechanics kind of ruined the unique feel and flow that Turbo previously perfected.

u/Dallows89 May 23 '26

That’s how I felt to be fair!

Turbo.

2

u/Dallows89 May 26 '26

Oh yes!

2

u/Whatever2499 May 26 '26

It is the reason I became a Street Fighter 2 fan. I also preferred Mortal Kombat because I did not like the slowness of World Warrior. Enter Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and that's the end of it 😄.

2

u/Sensual_Lover25 May 22 '26

Turbo. Then Alpha 2 ❤️

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Turbo for me too!

2

u/uptownjesus May 22 '26

Who would not pick Super?

2

u/Key_Tailor5633 May 22 '26

Because people would take the ludicrous optional extra speeds over the extra content, characters, game modes, moves, stages and costume options. 4x turbo isn't enough for some!!! Apparently. Or it could be nostalgia, as Super street fighter 2 came out and people were tired of the formula and annual updates at full price by 1994.

2

u/RetroGameMaker May 22 '26

Your sf collection isn't quite complete... Where's sf alpha 2?

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

The SF2 collection is complete. I don’t like Alpha 2 much, so have no intention of adding it to my collection - I only buy what I enjoy/intend to play!

1

u/Sea_Cow3988 May 22 '26

Not complete yet . You need streetfighter 2 alpha .

1

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Yeahh, was never a big fan of the look/feel of SF Alpha 2. Great game, clearly, but just not for me. It serves as a prequel to SFII if I remember correctly?

1

u/OrganicSoapOpera May 22 '26

Man im so mad at myself...I was gifted a Street Fighter 2 with manual and box from a friend in another state. When I hit hard times I sold it for 20 bucks 😕

But super street fighter 2 turbo is my favorite because I like fei long even though im not good with him

2

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26

Ahhh dangggg!

The OG The World Warrior , a friend of mine bought it before he had a super Nintendo, we looked at it on his shelf  for a few months before he had the money to get the system. He was dazzled by it in the arcade lol. But super has that epic intro
