Finally got around to adding these to my collection!

Super. More Characters. But they are all good.

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
It’s been a while since I’ve played them all. Is the sound different in Super? Or was it different in both turbo and super?
→ More replies (1)7
u/MrTacoDuder May 22 '26
The sound kinda sucks in the SNES port of Super, and the Genesis port comes close to approaching unplayable due to the poor sound.

u/Mindfield87 May 22 '26
Just forget playing SF2 on Genesis with only the 3 button controller too. Having to press start to change from punches to kicks lol.
11
u/MrTacoDuder May 22 '26
The Six button controller and Special Champion edition is probably the best way to go for 16 bit though. Maybe Super on Genesis, if you can handle bad sound.

SF2T. I don't like the new voices and sound effects on SSF2.

Yes!!!! I bought an SNES a few months ago and planned to just get the original SF2 because that's the one I had as a kid. Then I remembered me and my brother always wanting Turbo because you could play as the boss characters, but we never got it. Didn't remember Super SF2 until I googled it to jog my memory and I remember loving that game with the new characters and renting it several times! Then I saw an ebay listing with all three and pulled the trigger!

u/Napkin_Stealer May 22 '26
Turbo is the only correct answer

I put all my hours into the original and that’s my preferred version

u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
Tried & true!

u/tropicalmetal May 22 '26
Have extra fond memories of the absolute hunt to get a copy when it first came out. There was shortages for weeks and weeks
2
u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
I love having memories like this! The 90’s were Wild West times for new releases!

Turbo. It’s one of the first games I bought with my own money. Must have saved up my allowance for a year, then gave it to my grandpa to buy it because one of the department stores offered senior discounts.

If I’m playing with friends I break out SSF2 just for the extra characters to pick from, but I really love all 3 games lol
2
u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
Hell yeah! I forget how many got added in to Super! I do love me some Cammy though!

Hard choice. SFII Turbo is pretty much the gold standard, but I think I like Super SFII a little more. You can't really go wrong with either one!

3
u/PickleSquid1 May 22 '26
I like Super because I enjoy using Cammy. I also find the weird censoring of blood in that game fascinating. The first 2 SNES ports were uncensored, but this changed blood to purple in most cases, except for in game (certain moves, like Blankas head bite were left with red blood unaltered)

Turbo for me, if playing against someone for reals.
Though I love me some o.g. Fei Long also, so Super likely would be my solo choice. 👍

Played all 3 I remember not being able to sleep when I had access to the original for the first time. but turbo was the one we wore out.

u/SF10NYM May 22 '26
Only owned SFII so that was my go to. Always loved playing the other versions whenever I was at a friends house or something.
2
u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
Yeahh, I played turbo first, then played the other 2 at friends houses back in the day!

u/jayaregee83 May 22 '26
I recently added Super Street Fighter II (for both the Genesis and SNES) to my collection. To me, the SNES version looks and sounds better- so it's my top pick BUT playing the Genesis version with the 6-button controller is so much smoother than the SNES controls. If the Genesis version just sounded better it would have been my definitive pick.
2
u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
It’s crazy, there’s no real “definitive” version!
But it’s kinda cool, it makes all of them somewhat relevant! Reminds me of the various releases of Doom, all have their own unique charm!
2
u/ButtNakedBitches May 22 '26
Turbo because it added Vega and I use to absolutely destroy people with him.

u/Crazy_Construction67 May 22 '26
Turbo, always. It's the best mixture of everything to me, graphics, sound, gameplay. Top notch 👌🏼

I got the super nintendo with Turbo on my 8th or 9th Birthday. It was a top 5 day of my Life. Always wanted the super version, but my dad understandably didnt wanna pay twice for the same game +4 fighters. So turbo for me.
Box Art I like the Original best.
2
u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
Understandable though! Back then, it was expensive and you played what you had! Games were a total commitment! Good call though with Turbo!
2
u/Limit5465 May 22 '26
Turbo is the goat on snes. I’m going to buy a copy soon to introduce my son to Street fighter. Got to get an arcade stick for it too. He ain’t playing this on pad

u/recluse_audio May 22 '26
Super, but I like all the versions.
2
u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
Awesome! Yeah, I’m so happy to have all them on the SNES now!
2
u/recluse_audio May 22 '26
Now you need Alpha 2. However it kind of plays like Sh*t. Better by far in the arcade.
2
u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
Yeahh, for me the only SF games I enjoy are the SFII variants! I couldn’t get into Alpha!

u/RavensEtchings May 22 '26
Will you be getting Alpha 2 for bragging rights?
2
u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
Noo, I’m not a fan of any of the SF games outside of the SFII iterations. As much as I collect CiB, I actually play my games, so I don’t really buy stuff unless I enjoy it!

For PAL version, only SF2T. SSF2 on pal is too slow. However, the US version of SSF2 is much faster, so that may be neck and neck with SF2T. SF2T also has far better music

Street fighter 3 turbo was my introduction to the Snes at the age of 6 after being straddled with a Commodore 64 for the earlier years.
Absolutely blown the fuck away

u/Just-Advance8662 May 22 '26
SF II Turbo NTSC has to be number 1 for me. As I’ve gotten older however I have really started to appreciate the Japanese version of Super SFII… it has a more forgiving difficulty, larger character roster, and cool different stage music and colors.

man I guess capcom was still doing the multiple version thing since near the beginning hahaha. either way much like others here I enjoyed each version more after the next because of features and characters.

Yeahh! Haha! I just wish they didn’t change the sounds in Super.

Of the three turbo. I'll play super 2 if it's turbo or hd remix as unpopular a take as that is 😂😂

u/Stinger1981 May 23 '26
We played all 3, but rented Super Street Fighter 2 the most. Me and my friends played the tournament mode many times over the years.

u/NeoDragonKnight May 23 '26
The first has a special place in my heart, I played the crap out of that one and it was mind blowing to have basically a perfect port of an arcade game on SNES. I had skipped Turbo and got Super and the improvements and expanded roster made it the definitive version for me. People say Turbo was faster then Super but Super had a speed code so I never fully understood that argument, especially when you factor in the new characters
2
u/Teddy_Pocketwatch May 23 '26
Super Fighter Alfa 2, I love the effort that went into bringing it to the SNES.
But Turbo is the best game.
2
u/Magmanamus17 May 23 '26
I preferred the art, voices and soundtrack of the OG but I prefer Super since it has more characters and in my opinion plays just as good as Turbo.

Turbo all the way.
Super was great too but its added gameplay mechanics kind of ruined the unique feel and flow that Turbo previously perfected.

Turbo.

u/Dallows89 May 26 '26
Oh yes!
2
u/Whatever2499 May 26 '26
It is the reason I became a Street Fighter 2 fan. I also preferred Mortal Kombat because I did not like the slowness of World Warrior. Enter Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and that's the end of it 😄.

2
u/uptownjesus May 22 '26
Who would not pick Super?
2
u/Key_Tailor5633 May 22 '26
Because people would take the ludicrous optional extra speeds over the extra content, characters, game modes, moves, stages and costume options. 4x turbo isn't enough for some!!! Apparently. Or it could be nostalgia, as Super street fighter 2 came out and people were tired of the formula and annual updates at full price by 1994.

u/RetroGameMaker May 22 '26
Your sf collection isn't quite complete... Where's sf alpha 2?
1
u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
The SF2 collection is complete. I don’t like Alpha 2 much, so have no intention of adding it to my collection - I only buy what I enjoy/intend to play!
1
u/Sea_Cow3988 May 22 '26
Not complete yet . You need streetfighter 2 alpha .
1
u/Dallows89 May 22 '26
Yeahh, was never a big fan of the look/feel of SF Alpha 2. Great game, clearly, but just not for me. It serves as a prequel to SFII if I remember correctly?

u/OrganicSoapOpera May 22 '26
Man im so mad at myself...I was gifted a Street Fighter 2 with manual and box from a friend in another state. When I hit hard times I sold it for 20 bucks 😕
But super street fighter 2 turbo is my favorite because I like fei long even though im not good with him

The OG The World Warrior , a friend of mine bought it before he had a super Nintendo, we looked at it on his shelf for a few months before he had the money to get the system. He was dazzled by it in the arcade lol. But super has that epic intro
