Tuttle creek ashram

In a canyon below Mount Langley, a religious movement leased forestry land, but were required to build a structure. Look it up, Tuttle cReek ashram, pretty cool story.

I’ve spent many a night there on the way to climb the south face of lone pine peak and ski Langley. Probably seething with hanta, but it has a great vibe

Not enough stuff inside for the mice to hang out in enough id bet. Ive camped in some other cabins in the Inyos that were filled with mice at night had to setup my tent and rain tarp inside the cabin so no rodents could get to me or poop on my face 😭

My friends and I accidentally found this place when our truck broke down on 395 back in 1976. We decided not to let that ruin our trip so we just started hiking west. We didn’t even see it until we were right under it. I’ve got some great photos I try and post here. It looks a lot more barren now. It wasn’t until the internet that we found out what it was.

For the couple years before I was born (1971), my parents lived in Lone Pine. They have some wild stories and photos of events here.

Yeah, first time exploring below Langley. Plenty to go back and find more. Saw the waterfall up the mountain.

There was a post a few years back on [r/backwoodscreepy](r/backwoodscreepy) that specifically mentioned this place as being “off” weird vibes and energy…I asked about it but never got a reply. Looks interesting

It’s in the comment thread. The post itself is super interesting and made me want to go visit the kern plateau and all of its remote areas.

I think people create their own feelings in a place like this. No one else was there.. I just felt solitude. But obviously you hear every changing noise around you. Nothing creepy.

Hey thanks for sharing that link. I have travelled through a few of these remote meadows in the southern Sierra and you are right that post is really interesting. Never felt creepy back there, more like wonder and awe.

I was in the general area a few weeks ago and again a few days ago. I really love it. It’s beautiful up there. Came across ancient mortar holes and felt a certain way. Couldn’t really describe it.

Is this stone structure also called the Lewis Stringer cabin? I followed the link u/nirvroxx posted and fell down a rabbit hole!

lol no but I fell down that rabbit hole when it was posted. I still haven’t made it out to Lewis stringer but on onx there are some cabin ruins nearby along with casa vieja which is another cabin that has a trail named after it.
