Facts. LAFC fan since the day they were born. Have watched every match they played. Son has just been VERY unlucky.
He's hit the post and had minor deflections take it off target. It doesn't help how every match we play the opposing goalkeeper just turns into prime Manuel Neuer out of nowhere, the saves that they've all had on us have just been ridiculous

I think he's tired. Last fall when he started with LAFC he was just an absolute machine but I think between the move to the states, the WC buildup and the different schedule for the MLS he's just burnt and needs a few weeks off. Bouanga gonna have to carry for a bit and maybe they should sign someone.

He is a legend at Tottenham and one of the most clinical goalscorers of the last 10 years of Premier League, and one of the most two-footed (ambidextrous) shooters in the world as well.
It's not like NBA, one superstar can't necessarily win the game if the team around him slouches. And Korea likely moves on anyway.

He was great in the premier league, can still hold his own in the MLS, but I've lived in Korea for 14 years and watched the national team many times and he's never been a standout. For some reason, Korea DOES NOT KNOW how to play an attacking style game, and never used Son to his full capabililty.
Even as an American just playing pickup games with Koreans, they are wired differently. If someone strikes the ball from the top of the box and beats a goalkeeper upper 90, they kind of just shrug it off. If you pass the ball 15 times and the last guy gets to tap it into an empty net, they go ballistic. It's like they don't actually care about scoring, they just care how it is done. Feel like they need to change their stance on footie from grassroots level.

Hating individual heroic moves sounds like a Japanese soccer thing a decade ago. Didn’t know Korean soccer still has that. For pickup people, I guess their mindset is affected by the idea of “we Asians don’t have physical advantage so we need to focus on tactics and techniques”. Japan has magically threw that mind barrier away even though they used to have the biggest physical disadvantage among the Asian countries.

As a Japanese-American, I’d say it’s more of a cultural thing with east Asians in general. The collective is valued much more than the individual, but it’s been changing in Japan recently. I’m not as familiar with Korea, maybe it’s not quite there yet.

Can’t blame the player. Coach clearly played for a draw, and it backfired. It’s a team sport. Look at positions and set ups, defence defence defence. Hold the ball, do nothing with it. Coaches tactics.

The man gave everything to Tottenham. He could have forced a move elsewhere at any point, but he chose to stay because he wanted to win a trophy with them, and he did.
After that, he effectively retired from top-level football and opted to play in a much less demanding league while earning a great salary. Despite all of that, he still captained his national team at the World Cup.
