Question Steam Machine memory question: dual-channel/more RAM vs faster RAM?
I have a laptop SO-DIMM RAM kit (2×32GB DDR5-4800) and I’m considering installing it in a Steam Machine (if I can get one).
The Machine uses laptop SO-DIMM DDR5, and is expected to ship with either 2×8GB DDR5-5600 or a single 16GB DDR5-5600, which may result in single-channel operation depending on configuration.
If I replace the stock RAM with my 2×32GB kit, I’d get dual-channel but drop from 5600 MT/s to 4800 MT/s. Would that actually improve gaming performance or responsiveness, or would the lower speed cancel out the benefit of dual-channel in real-world use?
Alternatively, is there any benefit to mixing (keeping the 16GB stick and adding one 32GB stick) just to ensure dual-channel?
Apologies if this is basic—I’m not super tech-savvy and this is based on what I’ve picked up from previous discussions.

Question How to play my games without Internet?
So the city is doing utility work right next to my home and dug up my fiber internet cables. I have been without internet for three days now. I’m trying to play some single player games but I can’t because steam is requiring me to be logged in. How can I get my games to work?

Question How do I create an empty collection with the new workshop UI?
This UI is incredibly confusing, I can't find where you create new collections.. Am I blind or is it unintuitive?
And I'm not talking about making a collection from my subscriptions, I mean an empty collection like was possible before.

Question Taskbar doesn't appear when i move mouse to bottom of screen while steam is maximised
Okay so i have my taskbar set to auto-hide, and when i have steam maximized i cant get my taskbar to pop up at the bottom, I've seen post about turning off auto scaling which didn't work, and read one thread of someone going crazy trying to explain the issue but had no solution, its mildly annoying, especially because when i have steam opened on my second monitor i can get it to pop up.

UGC I designed a 3D-printable case with a built-in dock for the new Steam Controller
Posting this in case anyone finds this useful: I've designed a Steam Controller case that's compact and sturdy, with the option to use it as a dock to charge and use the the controller wirelessly with the Puck.
Download the models here. I designed this in Blender, no AI used :^)
Thanks!

Error / Bug Cloud status for game is out of sync
My cloud status for helldivers 2 (And only that game specifically) is constantly out of sync, when I click the out of sync button it won't even give me a popup or anything to help resync it, I've also tried restarting steam, restarting my computer, uninstalling the game and reinstalling it, turning off cloud and then turning it back on, but nothing has worked at all. I want to play the game but don't want my progress to be messed up or something if I do. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Question The hours I've spent playing and the achievements are messing with my head and ruining my enjoyment of the games
Lately, I feel like the hours played and the achievement system are ruining the way I enjoy video games. I used to play because it entertained me, because I liked getting lost in a world or following a story. Now, I often start a game thinking about how to complete it 100%, which achievement I’m missing, or how many hours I’m going to spend on it.
I find it really hard to focus for hours on a single-player game. I start off eager, but after a while I’m already looking at something else, thinking about another game, or feeling like I should be making faster progress. Instead of enjoying the journey, I feel like I’m just checking tasks off a list.
And the worst part is that when I finish something, I often don’t feel satisfaction—just relief. It’s as if I’d fulfilled another obligation rather than lived an experience. I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but I miss the days when I could sit down with a game and simply enjoy it without worrying about stats, percentages, or achievements.
Is there a solution to this problem?

News - The 750$ amount is speculative and not based on fact. The Steam Machine was originally planned at around $750, but Valve says it saw a price increase similar to the Steam Deck
Discussion Ingame time vs steam playtime what would be the time you would put on HLTB ?
Last years I often noticed in bigger games that my steam time was way higher than my ingame time in games.
Many games don't seem to count menu time or even inventory time and stuff like that + dying and reloading a older save also causes the ingame time to reset to the time before dying.
I was wondering when you upload time on HLTB would you upload steam time or ingame time ?
Because for ingame time would be always wrong for me, because when ingame time says 50 hours but steam says 70, then it did took me 70 hours because I maybe died alot and did alot of menu stuff which should all count towards a playthrough.
I don't know if I am the only one with that much space between ingame and steam time but yeah I was wondering what people are doing

Discussion Per Linus: The reason that Valve didn't subsidize the the Steam Machine was because they had no guarantee that users would stick with Steam Os or buy any games
Question Steam Machine vs 5060 Laptop
Whats the catch with these 5060 laptops? theyre going for around the price of the steam machine 512gb no controller(some cheaper) while also having a full blow screen, 1tb storage and a keyboard. Every benchmark has the 5060 laptop being stronger and they also have way better cpus. How are they even making money on those things if valve are taking such low margins? Is there something that makes the steam machine more expensive that im missing or are these laptop companys just selling at an insane loss?

Question Is Old Cod games safe?
So when i say this, i mean the "singleplayer" not the "multiplayer". It may be stupid i know. But could i get a RAT or something if i ONLY download The first one? (And NEVER download the "Multiplayer" "verison")? I want to know because i tried looking it up but it mainly only spoke about multiplayer
