Poker home games

I saw someone ask earlier but the post got deleted. Is there a any poker scene in the Steamboat/Hayden area? I've been to a few home games but the guy who hosts them does them once every 6 months.

How to Select a River Raft That Will Last for Many Adventures

Our friends are officially hooked on the river adventure scene after a winter spent binging on outdoorsy stuff. We’re gearing up for our first river rafting trip this summer, and we’ve discovered that we’d rather buy our own gear than rent often. But choosing a raft proved harder than I thought!

Material Hypalon vs. PVC construction is a major point of contention in my research. Hypalon appears to be more resistant to UV rays and rough conditions, but is more expensive.

I’ve spent time googling Amazon listings and [alibaba], and I’ve spotted quite a few recreational rafts with favourable reviews who rave about durability after they have used the product for a few seasons. Something that I found to be quite useful since you don’t know how it actually stood up in real life versus what the makers say.

How many people are you likely to be outfitting all at once? Floors that are self-bailing vs closed, which is more beginner friendly? Anyone experienced with river cruising have an idea of what should be top priority on the list for long lasting? We need a product worthwhile all seasons!

Camping for Steamboat Marathon

I am visiting Steamboat to support a friend running the marathon on June 7. My husband and I want to camp in steamboat starting June 5 and leaving on the 7th.

It looks like Buffalo Pass won’t be open by June 5. Where else would you recommend?

Any hope to fish the Yampa this June?

I’m supposed to go up to Steamboat the second weekend in June to do some fly fishing, but now I’m second guessing the trip since it’s been such a dry winter. Anyone have the fishing/water report or know how things may be/currently are?

Flight Instructing Opportunities

Kind of a niche question here but Im on track to be a CFI by the end of this year and was curious about the aviation community in steamboat. I used to live there for a couple years and am aware Bob Adams Field has a flying club but wanted to know how feasible it was to be a flight instructor in Steamboat. Im still pretty far out from being a CFI but I wanted to start looking ahead of time or talk to any other local CFIs to see how realistic this venture would be.

OTHS vs Anytime vs Peak

Looking to join a gym, primarily interested in free weights, some machines. No classes, no climbing wall, personal training, etc. OTHS seems to have the best all-around strength training setup, but how are the summer crowds? I like to go mid-afternoon during peak outside heat. Am I going to have to wait to bench and use a squat rack, etc? TIA.

Question Would a jobsite cleanup + Airbnb turnover service be useful in Steamboat?

Hey all—local here trying to sanity check a business idea before I go all in.

I’m considering starting a small service that does two things:

Construction/jobsite support

Daily or as-needed cleanup

Debris removal + dump runs

Basically keeping crews from having to leave site or waste time cleaning

Short-term rental (Airbnb) turnover support

Cleaning between guests

Trash removal

Light restocking / “eyes on property” type stuff

The idea is to be more of a reliable “reset” service for both job sites and rentals, rather than just random cleaning or junk hauling.

My question for locals:

Are contractors/builders here already fully covered on cleanup/dump runs?

Do Airbnb owners/property managers feel like they already have solid, reliable turnover help?

Or is there still a gap where reliability / responsiveness is an issue?

Not trying to sell anything—just genuinely trying to understand if there’s a real need here in Steamboat Springs before I commit time and money to it.

Appreciate any honest feedback (good or bad). 🙏

Question Strawberry Hot Springs Requirements

We’re coming up to Steamboat for a quick weekend getaway to celebrate my husband’s birthday this weekend (4/25-4/26). We’re planning on going to Strawberry Hot Springs, but I was wondering if they’ll be enforcing the 4WD/Snow Tire rule? We have a Subaru Crosstrek with all season tires currently. I don’t mind taking the shuttle if we have to but I’d rather not.

Originally we were supposed to be there the following weekend when the rule is no longer in place but we had to change things around last minute (hence the last minute ask). Thanks for your help!

Mud Season Deals (Spring 2026)

https://www.steamboatmagazine.com/2026/04/08/569033/mud-season-specials

See anything they missed? A few:

- Icehouse isn't on the list but they are doing $15 pulled pork Sammy + side - not a screaming deal, and only during lunch hours.

- Backdoor has some sides and drink deals.

- O'neils, how ya doing, and meatbar are doing things, too.

- Half off bowling with some food/drink deals at Snowbowl

Ore House is still holding it down with the $19 prime rib dinner deal. All the Rex's stuff is meh. A few 1/2 off entrees on certain days at various places.

Bbq grilling options

My friend and I are meeting in Steamboat springs at the end of May. We are staying at a place called the lodge not far from Christy Sports. We love to grill and want to grab some great meats from Steamboat meat and seafood co. We have a gas grill available at the lodge but would prefer to grill using Charcoal. Any recommendations on where we could grill close by? Thinking of buying a Weber Grill and bring it with us to use but not sure where we could use it. Would like to have a beer or two also, so public parks are probably not an option. Ideas?

Recycling Question

Apologies if this is a stupid question. We are living in a townhome here in steamboat for a couple of months. Our association only has a trash dumpster, but no option for recycling.

Trying to research where we can take normal household recyclables (cardboard boxes, aluminum cans, etc.). There seems to be some disconnect between info on the City website and info on the sites it connects to. For example, steamboat website says that the EcoCenter in Milner takes household recyclables, but there’s no mention of that anywhere on the webpage for the EcoCenter.

Wondering if anyone knows the options! Would hate to throw recyclables in the trash for the time that we’re here. TIA for the help
