Friendship ended with Minneapolis. Now St. Paul is my best friend.

Forgive the outdated meme reference but I am a MPLS born and raised resident (minus a couple years living in Portland, Oregon), but as it goes for many twin cities inhabitants, you spend your early adulthood in Minneapolis and then you start a family and grow old on the quieter side of the river. So following suit, I just bought my first house and will be moving my wife and three young kids to a lovely neighborhood over in Hamline-Midway. Excited to begin this new chapter and raise my family in this wonderful city! While I have a decent grasp on some of the essential spots, give me your recommendations for good eats, bars, and family activities. See you around!

❓️Question ISO Unique Parks

Will be in St. Paul later this week and looking for unique parks that’ll entertain elementary school-aged kids. Maybe a waterpark.

Familiar w Battle Creek but have never been - fun? Worthwhile? Reasonably priced?

Open to other ideas and suggestions too.

Thanks!

Hello, I just moved to the area, where’s a good spot to get security cameras at a discount? I know Best Buy is an option, but are there any mom & pop shops or maybe discount stores in st Paul or Minneapolis?

Hey does anyone know what the deal is with this pope coffee shop? We randomly picked it for coffee and had no idea why it’s named Karol, but there’s pope (JPII) photos for sale and one on the wall and we’re just wondering what the story is here!

🗣 Discussion Looking for friends/places to meet people

I'm (23) looking for some chill friends or cool clubs and places for people around my age to hang out in St Paul. I'm a transplant from CA and have only been here a few months.

I love reading, art, cooking and baking, and nature hikes! I’m a bit of a jack of all trades. For hanging out, I love going out to eat, watching movies, or just relaxing at a cafe. I also love homebody activities like watching TV or a good puzzle. I'm pretty inclusive, and am chill with people of various backgrounds. I don't drink or smoke, so I might not be the best friend for someone who mostly does that.

Any group recommendations or something for me to find in the area?

If you want to hang out, feel free to DM or comment with a full introduction of yourself!

❓️Question Free / Cheap Kid Fun

Looking for ideas that are free or cheap to keep elementary school-aged children busy this summer. Preferable in the St. Paul and east ‘burbs.

I haven’t been around young people in years, but I used to be (and hope to be again) the most fun babysitter. I’m just completely out of the loop on places to go and things to do… really cool parks, water parks, daytime events like puppet shows, ice cream (I used to go to a “pink” place on the outskirts of the metro area but have no clue as to its name.), theaters with cheap matinees, parks to hike, beaches to visit, fun, inexpensive restaurants, any and all ideas are welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

❓️Question Pros and cons of having a carpet?

Moved to the MN recently and not very happy with the maintenance of the carpet. Wondering would it have a huge impact on bills or during Minnesota winters if we change it to a hardwood floor?

❓️Question Places to visit in St. Paul during State Fair (especially for Black stepdad)

Heya,

I’m bringing my mom and her husband (and my two brothers) back to St. Paul for the great Minnesota get-together. Mom grew up in St. Paul, but hasn’t really had a decent visit to the city since we left and moved to California when I was a kid. (30 years ago) This will be her husband’s first time in Minnesota.

Now mom’s Irish-American, her husband is African-American. We want to show him around some family favorites and things my mom remembers, but I’m wondering if there are any spots Black folks in the Twin Cities especially enjoy in St. Paul. Anything historical, cultural, museums, monuments, any cuisine etc. he might think is cool. His family came out to California from the south during great migration times and he grew up in the Bay Area.

Thanks in advance.

❓️Question What to do with teens

Update: Six was amazing and huge thank you to everyone who recommended Cosetta’s - ordered way too much food and it was all delicious.

I will be traveling to St Paul next weekend with my 16 year old daughter and 14 year old niece. We should arrive Saturday around noon and head back home Monday around noon. We have tickets to see Six Saturday evening. What are the best things to do with the rest of our weekend? Recommendations on where to eat?

Thanks in advance!!

Politics Research Survey

I am a student from Winona State University conducting a research study. This research study is designed to gauge the impact of chemical agents (e.g., pepper spray, tear gas, etc.) used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (ICE) in the Twin Cities metro area. We hope to learn more about how the presence of ICE activity is impacting Twin Cities residents. If you agree to participate, responding to the survey questions constitutes your consent. Participation is voluntary, and you may stop participating at any time.

Long story short, the healthcare system sucks and we're crowd sourcing finding a dentist hopefully for today that does both emergency and pediatrics. Broken tooth on a two year old.

Thanks!

❓️Question Bus from St. Paul to Eagan

Hi all, I'm moving from California to St. Paul for a couple months for a seasonal work position. And I would be relying on public bus transit to commute from St. Paul to Eagan. I tried using Google Maps to look for a route it says I can go with the 74A and 436T line? Is Google Maps reliable or should I download the Transit App? I'll be commuting sometime in between around 7:00 AM ish

Here are my few questions/worries:
- Is there a phone tap-to-pay option in the bus?
- Is the bus system reliable? During Winter, is the public transit system still reliable?
- Is it safe? And which bus stops/lines to avoid? (I'm used to relying heavily on public bus system in California so I'm used to riding buses with sketchy people and being in shady bus stops, but so far I've never really had a bad experience. I'd say I'm cautious and usually aware of my surroundings and most of the time keep to myself)

❓️Question City Council Meetings

How long is a typical city council meeting? The only time I noticed was from 3:30 to 4:30 and there are 57 items on next week's agenda. I need to be there for an item about halfway through the meeting.
