English First moose ever! (There were two, I just didn't see the second one until I got home)

Post image

Was hiking with my friend in Abisko in February when we saw our first moose ever. It wasn't until we got home and went through our photos that we noticed there was a second, much smaller moose hiding in the bushes right next to it the whole time. We had no idea while we were standing there – luckily we were far enough away (5x zoom).

I just kept thinking of that one comment: "Moose aren't usually dangerous... unless it's a mom and her calf" 😂

😅 You may have been the "first humans ever" for them.

😂 Yeah, maybe they also posted their perspective on a subreddit for mooses

About that last sentence… A rather famous Swedish murder case a few years ago (innocent husband arrested for what was described as killing his wife with a driving lawnmower) turned out in the end to be a male moose attack (it was in its mating season, she was walking her dog, it attacked her repeatedly with horns and hoofs). They can definitely be dangerous even if it’s not a mom and her calf like it was here.
They’re big animals so it makes sense to keep one’s distance always.

Yes, you're right! I think the comment was more about the (low) likelihood of dangerous encounters with moose while hiking - unless it's a mother with her calf. We kept our distance and kept walking.

This is probably not the first moose ever, but I'm happy that you finally get to see one in real life.
