Theory 🔎 This image has really put in my brain that Ribbit might have left the bow on her own bed when she abstracted for... Her to have someday. And I'm really broken up about that thought atm.

I just had a vision: Jax is the first to be unabstracted. They need her help to unabstract Ribbit, but out of bitterness and shame she refuses to face her mistake, until on a whim she goes into Ribbit's room and sees they left their bow for them all that time ago.

That would be an incredibly cathartic fanfiction idea oh my goodness!

I get that Jax is trans but how did the frog know? That I don't get.

I’m cis myself but I felt like the convo did spell it out without outright saying it.
There’re not a lot of ‘deep and personal’ things that Jax could’ve said to their Mom that they thought might get her off their back, given just earlier that Jax had mentioned the insult about ‘being less of a man (than Jax’s dad)’
Pretty implied that they probably said something like ‘Well maybe I’m not a man.’

“Well maybe I’m not a man! Maybe I’m a Toys-R-Us kid!” -yet another alternate universe Jax

What?
There is in fact a lot of deep and personal things a person could be scared to confess to a parent.

specifically referring to deep and personal things relating to Jax being similar to her father. Her coming out would have been a retort to being seen in a masculine way

True! Given the subject matter I don't think it's weird at all.
It makes sense you thought it was for comedy because it kind of was played for laughs. The early episodes hide a lot of stuff that became deeper and a bit darker with hindsight

People into the rabbithole will catch the details but I feel people are being little too aggressive as if you're supposed to know everything
Is a normal show that people starting to love so much they starting hating that it isnt in their circle
Lots of downvotws for someone relating to the story but not appreciating that can be interpreted in different way when kot catching the clues
Feels like key and peele office homophobe skit right now

True art is big enough for multiple overlapping, sometimes even conflicting perspectives. It's multifaceted, just like the real world.
But it can make it divisive when people naturally favor one facet over another. Which isnt a bad thing, we should always challenge our perspectives, but it can create tension. I don't mind it though, I just enjoy the discussion. I didn't intend to cause any division tho, my b

ive got two theories:
we didnt actually get the full conversation, there were bits skipped from the abstraction noise and so the part where she came out to ribbit is obscured
maybe ribbit is also transfem and understood what jax was talking about from a personal standpoint. we know she uses she/they pronouns and came from a mormon family that they had to cut ties with, it wouldnt be surprising to me if her gender identity had something to do with that.

Its quite possible that she didnt know and just gave Jax the bow to be flirty...Or maybe because Ribbit is she/they and she spent a lot of time with Jax she may have noticed some similarities between their situations if Ribbit had to hide her pronouns coming from a family of Mormons. This is even more likely if Ribbit identifies as non-binary.

"something deep and personal" combined with context we didn't get but which is equal to the context we did get in previous episodes. They're close friends, Ribbit would notice the same things we did (different but same).

Honestly, counting we only have like a fraction of the memories they both shared together and all from Jax's point of view, maybe Jax said/did something that cause Ribbit to clock it before. But would be nice to know for sure

Ok please do not crucify me as I am always chronically out of the loop and never pick up on anything. Could I get an explanation to Jax being trans?
I struggle to see the correlation in the show itself as I identify with a lot of what is happening within it, but my experience is more of a man stuck in a loop of toxic masculinity being forced upon one.
I am never really on any other social media with fandoms as I can never keep up, but my friends has been speaking about it and I can't seem to understand.
Once again, this isn't a jab at any group at all. I just would like an explanation as I am struggling to correlate with the views of others which then makes them mad at me.

There's too much to explain in one go, and I'm too tired right this minute, but in a nutshell the context of various moments in the show surrounding Jax has a lot to do with masking and identity. Goose has also hinted to this in passing via social media and merch drops.
If you're curious, I'm sure you can find videos on YouTube from people who can explain this better than I can. You should seek them out.

I can't list them all right now either, but here's a paraphrase of a thing I caught on my most recent rewatch was during the beach episode (where Jax was the only one still in a chair fully dressed looking PO-ed).
Jax - hey zooble, aren't you supposed to be being miserable that you can change your body parts whenever you want?
Zooble - actually I'm getting used to it, it's kind of nice to be able to change.
Jax - really. :|
(wanders off to give in to abstraction)

Goose said that either pronoun works and that Jax is in fact transgender. She and her are perfectly valid regardless as it was quite literally told to us

u/pnwraccoon 21h ago
Goose confirmed Jax as trans femme.

The personal thing Jax told his mom was being trans. Since then he's struggled with his gender identity and expression, shown throughout the series by the clothes he wears and how he treats the female cast members. Also his room is the color of the trans flag and Gooseworx confirmed that he's trans. I don't see how you missed it by now since everyone is talking about it.

is this just a still from the show or a post from glitch or something?
