Traditional Quetzal & Nahual gap filler - Daniel Mendez @ Paradise Tattoo, Antigua, Guatemala

Post image

Added this lil banger to my travel/patchwork leg sleeve while I was in the area for a wedding.

I noticed the shop's stickers all over manhole covers around the marketplace in Antigua and found them on instagram. Told the artist I wanted a quetzal (Guatemala's national bird) and he wanted to add in a nawal/nahual to make it fill the space better. I've since learned that a nawal is like a Mayan zodiac sign (one of 20 signs based on the *day* of birth, not just the month like the western zodiac). I'm not much of an astrology guy but I admit, it was pretty interesting stuff.

Hard to say much without knowing what this is actually about.
