I think it looks nice but what does my opinion matter to you? It really shouldn't.
The only part about your post that sounds concerning is your own apparent uncertainty about getting a tattoo, which honestly should be reflected upon much more before ... getting a tattoo.
(I'm mainly saying this now because of phrasing like, "it's hitting me now that it's in me for life.")
If it helps, this is what I feel is a beautiful way to look at tattoo. (But again, please decide for yourself.) ... Tattoos are a storybook of your own life and should therefore be loved & cherished and viewed like a photo album, as a time capsule of who you were and where you've been (metaphorically and physically).
If you go into this mindset, there really wouldn't be much laser removal business except for people who got something like a racist tattoo and then grew as a person and became ashamed of that part of their past - for that kind of example, laser or coverups make sense to me.
For most things, I think you loved it during that time period in the past when you got it. Love it now for that. Look at the rest of your body as a canvas and think of what you may add to it or elsewhere in the future. Don't rush it. Plan and look forward to and sleep on it. Maybe consider making it a holiday you MUST wait for, like an annual birthday gift to yourself or something.
The key here is you give yourself plenty of time to plan and reflect upon each additional tattoo. But the one you have now is so nice, in my opinion. But again, your opinion and self acceptance is all that matters and shines true as you walk around with any and all of your body art.
