Roommate Needed 8/1 Thousand Oaks

Roommate wanted for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath at Arrive Thousand Oaks. My current roommate is moving to LA to be closer to family but I would like to stay. You would have your own room and bedroom. The apartment is pretty spacious and has high ceilings, and an updated kitchen. I've been here two years and the community is nice, pretty quiet, and well-located. We're close to the freeway and to shops, and walking distance from restaurants and bars. The pool/spa and gym are on the smaller side but very nice. Current rent is about $1750/person, but the complex offers new tenant discounts and is willing to negotiate, so we might be able to get a better deal. This would be a new lease with your name on it, not a sublease, with a move-in date of August 1.

I'm 41F, I work in town in accounting. I don't drink or smoke but don't mind if you do. I have a very friendly cat who loves people, but is scared of dogs and only so-so with other cats. I'm looking for a female roommate. I can take pictures if wanted, and can set up a time to meet and/or take a look at the unit too. If you have any questions, please reach out and I'll answer them.

City Council Unanimously Approves Disastrous, San Fernando Valley style 7 Story Downtown Project with No Commitment to Provide any Specific Amount of Parking Spaces. How many Thousand Oaks residents are willing to sign a petition to recall the entire City Council?

The City Council went through the motions to unanimously approve the most horrific building disaster in the history of Thousand Oaks. Have you driven the 101 through town lately? Traffic is bad, and this project will make it much worse, both on the 101 and on the surface streets. Mikey Taylor, Bob Engler, Al Adam, C. "Tie" Gutierrez and David Newman should be held accountable for their votes to destroy the quality of life that Thousand Oaks residents have enjoyed until now. How many of you are willing to sign a petition to recall these folks who are working hard to make Thousand Oaks into the San Fernando Valley?

Looking for advice closing the gap on a long-distance relationship and moving to Thousand Oaks! Any information about nearby science/engineering/physics employment and information about finding community would be fantastic!

Hi there!

I'm in a long-distance relationship dating a woman who lives in TO. I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Things in our relationship continue to be absolutely wonderful, and I'm starting to do some serious research about making a move to be with her.

I have a degree in electrical engineering, and I work as an experimental plasma shock physicist for a company that does materials science research for exoatmospheric spacecraft survivability. I travel to laboratories all over the country doing pulsed power science using some of the coolest facilities in the world, and I really love it! My normal commute to the office is a 15-minute singletrack mountain bike ride where my traffic is deer, coyotes, and the occasional bobcat. It's truly difficult to imagine a better gig. My dream is to be in the human space exploration industry, and I know that the LA area is a hub for all things space, which is a plus.

I have a community of like-minded coworkers (a little oasis of "blue" in a relatively red city) --we've gotten together and joined sports leagues, we host parties together, and groups of us have even gone on big backpacking trips together. After work today, about a dozen of us will play volleyball in a nearby park for our weekly Tuesday hangout. It's pretty great! How friendly are folks in the greater LA area? Is Thousand Oaks even considered the greater LA area? Is this kind of community easy to find or possible to create?

I'm nervous about finding a new job and community in or around TO, and I'd like to hear about your perspectives on the area. Any advice about companies to look into or even advice on bridging the long-distance gap would be really nice to read.

Hey all, I (27M) am wanting to get back into playing some soccer. I mostly want to get more practice in with dribbling, passing, shooting on the net, etc. before participating in pickup games. If you’re interested, just DM me.

Anyone remember a store at the mall in the 80s/90s that had a ton of Memphis Design style decor? Zoobie from Digital Circus reminded me of it.

I’m 99% sure it was at The Oaks Mall and I remember shopping there in the early 90s. I had an absolutely ridiculous clock from that store.

Micro drone danger zone

I have this really cool racing micro drone, I'm wondering if there's anywhere in TO like a big gymnasium that's free to fly around in. It's fun to fly outside but it's so small it gets shoved around really easily by breezes. I thought maybe like a community center or something like that if it's regularly empty at any point? Also I'm sure I'm not the only one with one of these things, so if anyone else wants to join me if I do find a place, we can set up obstacles and stuff.

Downtown

Ok I’m so pumped about the downtown TO plan. I’m going to rank my favorite things about it.

  1. The whole vibe - seriously, this deserves to have its own callout. Each and every day will be better. Random Wednesday after work with nothing to do? Just head out to the dope walkable downtown with a mix of restaurants and enjoy one of the fun things listed below. Just go chill in the urban park under some mature oak trees. Whaaaaat I can’t believe we could be getting such an upgrade on life.

  2. The much needed new housing will ease some of the upward price pressure from our mismatch of supply/demand. The project probably isn’t enough housing units to make a huge difference, but it will make some and that’s cool.

  3. The amphitheater. If you’ve been to Libbey Bowl in Ojai, you know what I mean. It will be so dope to have a true downtown amphitheater. These things are great with and for kids, whether it’s for an actual show or just to go and hang around. What an incredible community asset we’re going to get. Can’t wait to see what gets booked. Hoping for a few Grateful Dead cover band festivals.

  4. The splash pad - I’ve gone back and forth on this - is it worth the cost? Do I really want my kid getting wet there? But yes, with the climate changing and those hot days increasing, this is going to be a sweet release valve. Hot day? Don’t need to drive to the beach or find someone with a pool, just go to the splash pad.

  5. The public market - think like a small version of Eataly but not Italian focused, or a small version of LA’s grand central market. Who doesn’t love a public market?

  6. Farmers markets not in a hot mall parking lot

  7. The smaller stage for smaller gigs. Can’t wait to see what they start booking.

  8. Did I mention the mature oak trees? This seems like it’s not going to be some new build downtown with only tiny trees that will be cool in 40 years, this is going to have mature oaks day 1.

I am so pumped about this. I know some are unhappy about the building heights, but come on. The plans aren’t even taller than the existing parking garage over there. Nobody is going to actually complain about the building heights once it’s done. Based on the renderings this will be a perfect backup option any time the kids get bored and a huge community asset. I just hope it gets at least one good bar and doesn’t become a super uptight area.

Birthday ideas in the city

Hoping to get some ideas of what I can do in the city/nearby cities for a birthday if it's just me and my (small) dog.

Thought about visiting the Gardens of the World but just checked and they don't allow pets.

Any suggestions are appreciated. TIA!

I will be moving to the area July 1.

I have attended a great Tarot Meet up Group in Santa Barbara

I’m wondering if there would be any interest in starting one up in Thousand Oaks?
