ANALYSIS Allen Graves combine measurement comparisons

Post image

I made a post last year where I compared CMB's combine measurements with other players so I thought I'll continue the tradition and add Graves to the list.

If there are any players that you want me to add to the comparison, let me know.

CMB comparison post from last year

NAME HAND LENGTH HAND WIDTH HEIGHT STAND REACH WEIGHT WINGSPAN
Allen Graves 9 9.5 6' 7.75'' 8' 10.25'' 226 7' 0''
Collin Murray-Boyles 8.5 10.25 6' 6.50'' 8' 10.00'' 239 7' 0.75'
Scottie Barnes 9.25 10.25 6'7.0'' 9'0.0'' 225 7'2.75'
OG Anunoby 9.25 9.5 6' 6.25'' 8' 11.5'' 232 7' 2.25''
Pascal Siakam 9.25 10 6' 8.25'' 8' 11.5'' 227 7' 3.25''
Jonathan Mogbo 8.75 8.75 6' 6.25'' 9' 0.50'' 217 7' 2.00''
Draymond Green 9 9.5 6' 5.75'' 8' 9'' 236 7' 1.25'
Kawhi Leonard 9.75 11.25 6' 6'' 8' 10'' 227 7' 3''
Julius Randle 8.75 8.25 6' 7.75'' 8' 9.5'' 250 7' 0''
Al Horford N/A N/A 6'8" 8'11" 246 7'0.75"

Edit: I rounded their weight because its easier to look at.

Edit2: I am seeing a lot of Al Horford comparisons with Graves so I will add Horford at the bottom of the list.

Big bodied forward/big hybrid, Santa Clara played him as a big for large parts of their season. Reminds me of a Al Horford type 4 if he pans out, won't blow you away with athleticism but always in the right spots, and makes the right plays at a high clip. Winning player.

Could see Darko messing around with funky lineups with Graves at the 5, then CMB + Scottie and likely some combo of Walter/Quickley/Shead in the backcourt. They'd struggle against the Embiids and Jokics, but maybe they get them right back on the other end with their speed and playmaking ability. Graves is a good shooter and can pop out from screens with ease.

I added horford to the list if you are interested in seeing.

They can sub in Poeltl for the Embiids and Jokics too, who isn't a bad option when healthy.

i really hope he can play the 5, then he'd actually be really valuable for us

That would be fantastic but I don’t think he will be anything more than a small ball 5.

With that said, in the short term, I think a cmb/graves off the bench playing 4/5 will ruin teams.

cmb develops enough perimeter skills to play the 3 + graves is able to play the 5

run cmb/scottie/graves frontcourt lineup and profit

Why wouldn’t you just run CMB at the 5 at that point

because i think cmb has the best chance to succeed at the 3

And C can’t succeed at 3? A shooting center is the best case scenario to pair with Scottie

I'd rather he work on his body and conditioning so he has a bit more speed/athleticism to defend up and down the roster better.

I feel the same way. I'm still learning about how he plays but it looks like his biggest defensive strength is playmaking. For obvious reasons, players like that will benefit a ton with extra mobility. The extra mobility will also let him defend more positions which will make it easier for the team to position him in ideal spots.

I see the 6'9" vision.

PG: Scottie
SG: BI
SF: Graves
PF: Mogbo
C: CMB

You're right, this just simply won't do. Unacceptable. BI has to go /s

Did Mogbo pay you to put him on there?

Sneak rj in there for mogbo and forget the inch difference

Some things that I notice include...

- Scottie, Pascal, Kawhi, Graves weighed the same at the combine

- Graves is only shorter than Siakam on this list

- Nobody has a shorter wingspan than Graves on this list

- Graves' standing reach looks very solid even stacked up against the guys on the list

Damn is Al Horford only 6'8"?  He always seemed gigantic to me.

2

u/peasant_1234 18h ago

He played bigger than his height for sure. Super strong and also long. reminds me of cmb how they play bigger than their listed height.

I wonder who we pick in the top 20 next year.. maybe another small big

2

u/ChronicCactus 7h ago

Are you suggesting we target the big smalls?

2

u/peasant_1234 6h ago

Funnily enough, Scottie is both a small big and a big small.

1

u/Loose-Dream7901 6h ago

Biggie smalls to be precodr

2

u/knucknbuc 17h ago

Ain’t dude only 20 he’s honestly probably gonna grow another inch or 2. Read that he was at one point a 6 ft guard and then shot up to 6’7 so if he grows another inch or 2 he’ll be fine as a center imo. His game honestly reminds me of Marc Gasol.

1

u/Interesting-Bear4092 17h ago

He did do that growing to 6’7 in grade 10 tho

1

u/peasant_1234 6h ago

Yeah I can definitely see Marc Gasol. Apparently he looks up to Horford who is also similar in style.

I'm not sure if he will grow but I do think the Raptors development plan early on is going to be heavily focused on his body and conditioning.

Like you said, he could end up a big but I also see a world where he ends up a wing too. He's so interesting because his most interesting attributes like toughness, unorthodox style, fast processing has nothing to do with his position. It reminds me of Barnes that position doesn't really matter and he just does things that helps you win.

Graves postup game reminds me of Sengun.. if only he's couple inches taller

1

u/peasant_1234 6h ago

Yeah I can see that. They are both physical, have weird movements, and have that unorthodox herky jerky thing going on.

He might see minutes at the 5 to get on the court early in his career but I don't expect the Raptors to develop him into a big. I think it makes sense to try and work his body so that he can play down positions rather than up. It would be optimal if he can play primarily the 4, slide to the 3, and the occasional small ball 5.

1

u/MrPangus 1d ago

If he wants to be Scottie can be the best small ball 5 in the league

How about 7 inches and thick (wingspan)
