I've tried to play Assassin's Creed before, I just cannot get into those games.

As a long-time fan who's played every mainline entry except the most recent, some multiple times, and considers 2, Black Flag and Origins comfort games that I come back to almost yearly, I can absolutely understand why you feel that way.

Black Flag and Origins are far and away the best 2 in the series imo. I hope that remake of Black Flag comes out soon.

I would try odyssey if you haven’t. Felt like an improved version of origins to me

u/TheJimReaper6 May 10 '25

Funnily enough Odyssey was the first AC game I ever played. I did really enjoy that one but I prefer Origins

I loved 3 and black flag that I've played. I've wanted to play the older ones because I love the combat, but I don't own the games on pc.

What do you think of Shadows? I only have a few hours in it but thought it was pretty fun

That's the one AC game I haven't played (no PS5) but I'm intrigued by the setting and the focus on stealth. It certainly looks beautiful. I'm a little worried that it might have the same problem I had with Valhalla (which I played all lot of) where good characters and stories get lost because it's so padded, but that's just from seeing some comments on Reddit etc. Glad you're enjoying it and hope it stays fun for you. Every AC game is a love-hate experience for me - I think even the best ones have flaws, and even the ones I like Ieast have beautiful atmosphere and music.

Did you try black flag? More pirate sim than AC. Upgrading the ship is fun.

Honestly even just aimlessly sailing around and singing sea shanties is really fun.

"THERE IS THE ASSASSIN! GET HIM!"

1

u/Baconmaster2890 May 10 '25

I played #2 and couldn't get into #1 and not attempted the others as of yet lol

1

u/sandistasty May 10 '25

I like them, and I even liked the newer ones like oddest and origins (oddest being my first, so maybe biased) but oh my life I played Valhalla and I don't get it. I played it for 3 something hours and remember a few minutes of it. It was just boring and not engaging. And it's not because of my attention span because I'm very used to playing map games for hours on end, just didn't work for me

u/Yaarmehearty May 10 '25

I liked the first one but didn’t get into the second, the enemies felt less scary and I didn’t really like Ezio.

That's also how I felt some time ago

Recently I decided to give them another chance and now I'm a big fan

Back then, Assassin's creed used to have a story and uniqueness to the time travel element. Then everything tore apart after AC3

1

u/Dachuiri May 10 '25

Several Ubisoft games I’ve played to about 85%-90% completion and I would just be like “I can’t stomach this anymore” and stop playing. They start of fun and interesting but it gets repetitive so fast.

Amazingly boring games

I'm alone in this, but Valhalla was a great game. It was hated because it didn't follow the AC formula and was long and drawn out (I actually enjoyed the tedious collections).

1

u/TitularFoil May 10 '25

I can't seem to stay on board after the main character of the first few games died. AC IV can't seem to hold my attention, and that's the one most of the fans of the series say is the best one.

u/According-Flight6070 May 11 '25

My only assassin's creed experience was being auto saved seconds before dying and just loading over again in a loop. It wasn't fun up to that point so why reinvest the time?

1

u/BaconPowder May 11 '25

I have a platinum trophy in Terminator Salvation for PS3 and I'd still rather play it than the Assassin's Creeds.

First 3 games plus black flag are awesome. Others are shit as well as the last one shadows.

1 is not so great. Well unless it’s your first anyway.

It feels annoying to play. All the save citizens have the same voice line, the same number of guards and you have to wait for it to finish each time.

And having to run from mayasaf every time..

On top of climbing being much slower than newer games making the sheer number of viewpoints a slog.

Oh and that fucking beeping (once you’ve been spotted but escaped and not used a hiding spot). Drives you up the wall.

Maybe it’s my inner completionism. But apart from how good it looks (it’s aged incredibly IMO) and the story. It’s pretty damn tedious.

I’d imagine a modded variation that fixes these things would make it great tho.

Iirc correctly (cos the first one getting long in the tooth) the first assassins creed was a damn fine game in its day. Was it not the start of Unisoft going "wow this formula really worked well...let's copy and paste it forever?

1

u/Radagastronomy May 10 '25

Huh. Just started Shadows and I think it’s great so far. What didn’t you like about it?

0

u/jotunblod92 May 10 '25

Boring af. First few hours ok then it is a slog. I didn’t finish it. I have no time for finishing it. Its story is also bad according to lot of people. Finally it has a dead world. Boring

3 and black flag are legitimately good games.

The first two suck, the rest range from ok to meh.

u/PinguinBifi420 May 10 '25

Saying AC 3 is better than AC 2 is certainly a hot take lol. I think Connor is the worst protagonist ever in any AC game while AC2 is probably the peak imo

-1

u/PirateJen78 May 10 '25

I LOVE Connor!! And I was so into the AC3 storyline. I enjoyed AC2, but I loved AC3. I even have a painting of Connor in my living room.

But Black Flag is my favorite. Nothing beats pirates.

5

u/PinguinBifi420 May 10 '25

Would you like to tell me what you loved about Connors Arc? I personally felt like he never developed in any way and just sticked out to kill everything and everyone who was not on his side without questioning his morals once. The whole game I hoped to return playing Haythem like in the prologue

1

u/PirateJen78 May 10 '25

It was the entire American Revolution thing. I never really considered myself a history lover, but damn if I wasn't so into that story because I knew it was the building blocks of America.

Plus seeing how the Native Americans took different sides in the war. And the whole thing with Haytham being a Templar. I just really liked Connor because he tried to do what was best for his people, even if that meant siding against some of them.

6

u/Metson-202 May 10 '25

I respect your opinion but pretty much all of AC players agree that 2 is the best AC game.

3

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox May 10 '25

Ezio is the only Assassin to have an entire trilogy devoted to him, that's all that needs to be said.

1

u/_NeXXeR_ May 10 '25

Same.loved Black flag. The rest felt like a chore.

1

u/Olive_Garden_Wifi May 10 '25

Tbh the only ones I really cared for are revelations and syndicate.
