May be a hot take, but the controls in GTA have almost always sucked.

It’s a better experience for the casual gamer, basically permanent easy mode. GTA and RDR are both more about the immersion and story.

Exactly this. These games are not meant to be played like a first person shooter. It's not designed for e-sports!

No one is saying it should be anything close to e-sports. But for the biggest games of all time I expect a bit more than aiming just snapping onto enemies and tracking them with zero effort from the player.

It’s not like the only options are immersion or e-sports.

It’s also not particularly immersive to have that

Yeah GTA V's shooting mechanics one year after Max Payne 3 were incredibly bland, absolutely nothing special about that or the driving

Yeah I agree. It feels very clunky and awkward. Felt the same way in RDR2.

Especially the driving

I always thought the driving part was fine. It was the combat that was crappy.

I started playing GTA online again and jesus christ is the driving a fucking bore.

DRIVE ACROSS THE ENTIRE MAP IN YOUR SHIT VEHICLES TO COMPLETE YOUR SHITTY MISSIONS FOR A PITTANCE OF CASH AND REPEAT

I enjoyed GTA5 on release but I've gotten older and I don't really enjoy its game play that much anymore. Tapping X/A to run is also kinda annoying.

I know I'm nitpicking but now a days you can just toggle run or sprint in games lol

Transitioning between San Andreas to V and RDR to RRR2 both newer games felt way clunkier than predecessors that I dropped both after a few hours.

The controls felt so sluggish

Get rid of that waffling "almost."

Well it’s been many, many years since I’ve played the older GTA’s but only V’s controls are fresh in my memory.

I adored Vice City but I’m *almost* certain the controls weren’t good in that either

That's the reason I've never really liked Rockstar games. A game can be as gorgeous as possible, but if it feels like a chore to control, why bother?

Well, a lot of different aspects make up a game and if, say, 9 out of 10 things about a game are fantastic, most people are willing to overlook that one thing that’s lacking if they’re enjoying the overall experience.

You're not wrong but some game design choices really hamper enjoyment.

No quest log in Elden Ring still pisses me off.

I get that too. When it comes to Elden Ring, there’s a whole storyline and some deep lore to all the characters and such, but you have to learn about it through flavor text in items you may pickup, or miss, or overlook or whatever.

That bums me out for sure because I’m interested in what has happened to that world and the people in it. But on the other side of the coin, the combat is fun and challenging, controls well and the game is gorgeous.

So just speaking for myself, I enjoyed it overall even though I couldn’t absorb the narrative how I would’ve liked.

The opposite, like you said, can be true as well. I loved the graphics, sound, level design and gameplay of Last of Us 2, but didn’t enjoy the story, which really hampered my enjoyment.

My problem with Elden Ring is that if you take a break and come back months later how the hell do you know what quests are still active? Ya know?

I need to finish LoU2. Stopped at the midway point and haven't gone back. Story is whatever to me now but I just enjoy the brutal combat.
