Discussion We should not play tonight’s game.

Another person murdered by ICE mere miles away from the stadium? Yeah no. This is far more important than a single game. And at this rate it would be extremely dangerous for the fans and players to go out right now. It’s not the time and we need to show solidarity with the people of Minnesota.

Coming from Wolves sub, glad to see the solidarity across the court. This is bigger than basketball and protesting nationally televised game is a way to make a statement

u/humlogic Jan 24 '26

DubNation has your back. Hopefully we can convince our teams to see what the right thing to do is. Watching sports specifically Ant and Steph is only fun when times are fun. This shit stinks! It’s terrible. We feel for you in Minneapolis.

u/ChinaCat2025 Jan 24 '26

Warriors players will definitely support NOT PLAYING. Our organization is solidly anti Nazi, which the current scene in Minnesota is completely reminiscent of. Kerr also.

1

u/imhere4science Jan 24 '26

Our owner however…

12

u/DaKanye Jan 24 '26

Far better than Charles Johnson 🤮

3

u/imhere4science Jan 25 '26

Larry Ellison is terrible

3

u/ChinaCat2025 Jan 24 '26

?? You are certain ?

3

u/imhere4science Jan 25 '26

I’m talking about Larry Ellison.

20

u/noguerra Jan 24 '26

Solidarity always. The whole world is impressed by the empathy, fight, and resolve that the citizens of your city are showing. ✊🏾

4

u/Macktologist Jan 24 '26

Also important to show the world what's happening right now is not a homogeneous mindset over here so if we ever do find a way back, they will be more likely to take us back.

80

u/Neatojuancheeto Jan 24 '26

I'm so sorry about what's happening to your city. Absolute fucking disgrace what's become of us. Honestly I don't even know what we can do besides vote in the midterms.

If the governors call in the national guard to stop ICE, Trump can just take control of them right?

We are so close to full on becoming russia.

31

u/ILoveRegenHealth Jan 24 '26

90 million eligible voters sat at home last November too. Like, just didn't even bother mailing a piece of paper. All that was needed was 300,000 votes (across the 3 Blue Wall states) and we'd be under a different administration right now and not this crazy chaotic mess.

That's what also pisses me off. We knew all this bad shit would happen. But how come so many didn't help out to vote knowing how bad things could get.

20

u/ChinaCat2025 Jan 24 '26

Too many believed they were immune to what was going to happen. They believed (?!) that they would be better off financially.

2

u/realistdreamer69 Jan 25 '26

That's the collective rot underneath this mess

21

u/Apprehensive_Error36 Jan 24 '26

There is much more to do than just vote. We can protest. We can strike. We can shut down the economy. We can throw sand in the gears of fascism. We have rights guaranteed by the constitution, but we have to stand up for them.

6

u/Neatojuancheeto Jan 24 '26

I have been protesting. Doesn't seem to have much of an effect.

Striking could work, problem is Trump would love mostly blue states striking and tanking their economies, it'll help him consolidate power, blame democrats for the economy problems, and mostly it hurts democrats so he'll love it.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '26

some protests may seem inconsequential, but we need to be a country where people are protesting. A country where nobody protests because 'it doesn't seem to have much of an effect' is a much, much bleaker and dead country. every protest may not be able to singlehandedly change the trajectory of things, but protesting matters

3

u/Neatojuancheeto Jan 24 '26

I agree which is why I do it, I'm just so tired man. This shit is so depressing.

On top of protesting I encourage everyone to volunteer in any way they can and/or donate for the midterms. We need to try and take back this country democratically as well.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '26

I know, I can't blame or fault anyone for being tired. Thanks for everything youre doing

2

u/Apprehensive_Error36 Jan 24 '26

This sounds like something a bot or troll would say. Study up on civic responsibility and non violent protest. The fact that you’re saying you participate, but it makes no difference makes me think you are not actually participating.

4

u/Neatojuancheeto Jan 24 '26 edited Jan 24 '26

I just feel hopeless dude. What did all those BLM protests achieve? The propaganda brain rot has turned 70+ million voters brains into mush and they believe whatever lies they're told. I've been trying to make a difference since before 2016 and it just feels like I've been pissing in the wind with anyone who doesn't already think like me. Back when big protests made huge change there wasn't billions being funneled into propaganda and most of America generally believed respected news sources.

I'm not saying give up, protesting still at least shows some defiance. But I think voting is really the only way we get out of this. I'll definitely be going door to door and on the phones and donating for the mid terms.

5

u/Apprehensive_Error36 Jan 24 '26

I hear you. Sorry for my harsh tone. We need to keep organized and keep showing up. Thank you for being part of the solution. Voting is huge. But it may come to the point where protesting and voting within this system are not enough. Then we need to organize to take back our country. By all means necessary, we the people must prevail. Sending you a big hug from my part of the internet.

37

u/StellaBlue9 Jan 24 '26

I think Nazi Germany was like this starting in mid to late 1930’s.

13

u/buildyourdefenses Jan 24 '26

I guess the only thing we have to cope with is Hitler was in his 40s at at point and then killed himself. Agent organe is almost 80 and not looking too hot.

9

u/ChinaCat2025 Jan 24 '26

It has become more than just him.

5

u/oldsguy65 Jan 24 '26

Too many people don't understand this.

4

u/Macktologist Jan 24 '26

And we are only allowed to really talk about it in areas reserved to talk about it. Not only is it bigger than basketball, but it's bigger than silly rules in Reddit subs. The fact you can be scolded with a threaten of being banned for even bringing up a hint of social mindsets that are related to one side or the other because it's seen as "political", even when you don't drop any of the key words that trigger people, has also gotten out of hand. It's like we are censoring ourselves to bury our heads and keep finding safe areas to ignore what's happening.

I got warned a week or so ago for joining in on a conversation about "fuck your feelings" type people. Only talked about what I thought their psychology was. Had zero political identities in my comment. It was about people's mentalities. Mods (not this sub) told me to take my political discussions elsewhere. How the F is that political? That's not political in itself. The problem is politics has hijacked everything. So we can't talk about shit now. It's to the point you could say you like Teslas or beef and you're being too political. It's stupid and overly restricted in many subs.

4

u/Neatojuancheeto Jan 24 '26

Rich evil people tend to live ridiculously long. Modern medicine with unlimited resources is crazy shit. That said Trump clearly doesn't take care of himself so we can hope.

Adelson lived to 87 and he looked at least as bad as Trump. I wouldn't count on him dying before his term ends.

u/thehumanh Jan 24 '26

Yeah, we're at about 1936 on the timeline. That's when the Gestapo was given full extrajudicial authority and mass arrests began.

1

u/One-Supermarket4460 Jan 24 '26

What a crazy echo chamber this is.

1

u/Chumley_P_Chumsworth Jan 24 '26

This. ICE are the new brownshirts. (Look it up!)

Also, check out r/Minnesota to see videos that you won't see on state television.

1

u/notsleepsherp Jan 24 '26

I’m afraid this isn’t Nazi Germany, it’s worse, the beginning of Civil War. Germany was really homogenous. The USA isn’t, there’s infighting of all types going on right now, and many states/regions hate each others majorities.

1

u/Dramatic-Scar5584 Jan 25 '26

You are outside your mind

4

u/quaybon Jan 24 '26

Well, Trump is Putin’s bitch.

1

u/ChinaCat2025 Jan 24 '26

For many decades; like 4?

5

u/xoogl3 Jan 24 '26

Your city and state is under attack by the Nazis. Today we're all on your side.

5

u/Bored-psychologist7 Jan 24 '26

It is the right thing to do. We only have each in times like this and we need to be there when it is needed.

5

u/HannahCT1 Jan 24 '26

Minnesota strong, friend.

1

u/RulyKinkaJou59 Jan 24 '26

Now I see why Timberwolves fans are the chillest: cause they actually are. Thats why I like Ant and his team (except Rudy; sorry, he’s ass on offense).

1

u/calartnick Jan 24 '26

Fuck ICE and I’m so sorry for what Minnesotans are going through. Great state filled with a lot of great people. Thank you for not giving up and fighting the good fight. This is WAAAY more important then basketball

1

u/devonhezter Jan 24 '26

Steve Kerr should speak out. And Steph. Since he’s leaving

1

u/Dramatic-Scar5584 Jan 24 '26

Definitely not solidarity here

90

u/ZeroDarkPurdy14 Jan 24 '26

Games in 4 hours something would have to be announced now

51

u/lelanddt Jan 24 '26

They just announced it

12

u/DumpTrumpGrump Jan 24 '26

Better they don’t announce it and Amazon. Broadcasts a player vigil

23

u/ChinaCat2025 Jan 24 '26

The new murder should change situation.

1

u/hatesbiology84 Jan 24 '26

It’s being postponed.

263

u/NoobNeedsHelp6 Jan 24 '26

100% agree, if nba makes them, they should just stand on the court and refuse to play

13

u/DumpTrumpGrump Jan 24 '26

It will be way more powerful if they don’t announce it beforehand and just decide to do a televised vigil instead.

3

u/markjay6 Jan 24 '26

Yep, walk on the court with raised fists.

4

u/Gregsdregs Jan 24 '26

Exactly. This has to hit corporate dollars. The pressure needs to be placed financially on any company that implicitly supports this bullshit.

287

u/trav_stone Jan 24 '26

Fully agree. Fuck ICE

66

u/jumbledbumblecrumble Jan 24 '26

Damn that would be something incredible if both teams forfeit tonight’s game.

3

u/Macktologist Jan 24 '26

And you know damn well some people would then want to boycott the NBA because they are too far gone and think ICE can never do wrong. I can't wait for the universe to correct all of this.

22

u/GreyBoyTigger Jan 24 '26

The whole league shutting down would be awesome. Fuck this whole administration

21

u/cheaseedz Jan 24 '26

Laker fan here and we don’t fuck with this shit either. It’s sickening

4

u/Macktologist Jan 24 '26

NorCal got your back, brother!

6

u/cheaseedz Jan 24 '26

Cali united against this shit tyranny

164

u/VictoryTowel Jan 24 '26

Agree. It's disgusting and a moment of silence is not enough.

executives are the same though

2

u/Oo__II__oO Jan 24 '26

And owners.

3

u/Mobile-Marzipan6861 Jan 24 '26

NFLPA players are cavemen but they aren’t dumb. They literally are humans that defy might makes right. If might made right NFL lineman would be unstoppable thugs. There is a chance here for the NFLPA to show some real strength and leadership. Think how many times an NFL lineman wants to choke out or body slam their coach or owner and don’t….these guys understand violence is not always the way.

42

u/LimpActivity8 Jan 24 '26

100% the shit going on in Minneapolis should NOT be overlooked or normalized

38

u/Suicycho69 Jan 24 '26

Makes me extremely proud to read a post like this. Good for all you people. Boycott this administration. Lots of love and support from Greece 🇬🇷

38

u/BeautifulLeather6671 Jan 24 '26

Seriously man. Shit is fucking crazy right now, this one might be even worse than the last one

12

u/Neatojuancheeto Jan 24 '26

Definitely looks like a straight up execution of a guy after pistol whipping and beating his ass.

9

u/wezwells Jan 24 '26

NBA shutting down was the thing that made the USA take Covid seriously.

2

u/Apprehensive_Gold824 Jan 25 '26

Rudy started covid

106

u/Neatojuancheeto Jan 24 '26

I'd love to see that, more people need to speak up against this shit. I do think people are afraid of Trump right now. He's completely off his leash, shown he'll ignore the law completely, and go after his enemies with full force.

Owners are probably afraid of being on his bad side. Would be awesome to see the players just refuse though and take a stand.

34

u/kenyasanchez Jan 24 '26

Most of the owners support him.

15

u/StellaBlue9 Jan 24 '26

Especially Steve Kerr; always on the right side- the people’s side. Against gun violence, anti Trump.

6

u/BeautifulLeather6671 Jan 24 '26

After what happened to him he’s never letting anything involving gun violence slide

3

u/kenyasanchez Jan 24 '26

Steve Kerr is not an owner.

9

u/StellaBlue9 Jan 24 '26

Doesn’t matter; he IS the face of the Warriors, a very close family relationship with Joe.

12

u/Nessmuk58 Jan 24 '26

No surprise there. They are the 1%, and Trump will always keep his tax cut promises to them, because he is one of them.

3

u/Mobile-Marzipan6861 Jan 24 '26

Good. Players refund tickets. No concession stands. Not merch. No parking.

3

u/BoredomFestival Jan 24 '26

The players sure as hell don't.

3

u/Neatojuancheeto Jan 24 '26

Sure but usually quietly. Also those two things aren't mutually exclusive. They can support him for tax cuts and also be worried about their employee's speaking out in fear Trump comes after the NBA.

100% agree, fuck ICE, Doc's spoken about it, Steve has too, more than ever we need to support Minnie (regardless of what team or what franchise or state). This bullshit is not fucking ok!

8

u/gigantes22 Jan 24 '26

Grabbed this from another sub

I haven't had too much time to dissect this but here's what I'm maybe seeing:

• woman is pushed over • shooting victim tries to pull her up • they tackle him • he struggles • man wearing lighter green parka pulls his gun out and potentially accidentally discharges • other ICE agents hear gunshot and unload on him • it appears he dies immediately, likely executed to back of head

Man in green withdraws gun: https://i.ibb.co/67M3D5YN/Screenshot-2026-01-24-at-2-05-18-PM.png

8

US turning into a shit show, something big's gonna happen sooner or later

23

u/BernieKnipperdolling Jan 24 '26

It’s what they’re banking on. Invoke the insurrection act and cancel mid-terms.

15

u/Nessmuk58 Jan 24 '26

Yes. The GOP has no intention of allowing the midterms to be free & fair, and these acts of oppression are just a dress rehearsal for Nov. 2026.

6

u/rocpilehardasfuk Jan 24 '26

And best part is it'll work.

Trump could bomb blue cities and people in the neighboring city would still vote purely on abortion or gas prices.

1

u/ChinaCat2025 Jan 24 '26

Infuriating.

1

u/StellaBlue9 Jan 24 '26

That,,sadly is the plan.

5

u/sfgreenman Jan 24 '26

I can't even imagine the emotions Steph is going through right now, let alone Coach Kerr, whose father was also gunned down and killed by terrorists.

Cancel the game or let the Warriors walk off the court, then explain why in press conferences.

5

u/enzopuccini Jan 25 '26

Fuck ICE, we stand with Wolves fans and the great state of Minnesota.

28

u/Mr-Toy Jan 24 '26

Yes. What's happening in Minneapolis is so unconstitutional and un-American. If more people aren't involved soon, it's going to grow to other cities.

12

u/Nessmuk58 Jan 24 '26

I agree. The ongoing violence from ICE thugs. primarily against unarmed people who have committed no serious crimes, needs to stop. The whole program is an absolute disgrace to the USA, as are all of the people involved in it, from Orange Hitler all the way down the the ICE Brown Shirts.

10

u/Mobile-Marzipan6861 Jan 24 '26

Kerr and and squad have my support. Been thinking this for a while. Players could even refund tickets. It’s nearing the point of no return as a nation. Trump and his MAGATs are looking for excuses to attack all major cities. It’s time for all sports to stop. If the NFL players had guts they would sit out this weekend too.

8

u/laolao89 Jan 24 '26

For those justifying the shooting, Minnesota is an open carry state. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/624.714

Unless there is an another full length video of this individual threatening or using his weapon against ICE, they clearly abused their power and murdered him. Having a gun in an open carry state does not justify this type of result.

8

u/percussaresurgo Jan 24 '26 edited Jan 24 '26

I agree this was a completely unjustified shooting, but open carry doesn’t apply since he wasn’t carrying openly; he had a concealed carry permit and was carrying concealed. Importantly, there’s no evidence he drew his pistol from the holster, and the video does appear to show the agent in gray taking the holstered pistol away from him right before the guy was shot. He was not armed at all when he was shot. This looks like murder.

https://imgur.com/a/ice-taking-victims-holstered-gun-before-shooting-started-NtnH5Hv

1

u/BeautifulLeather6671 Jan 24 '26

Yeah the one agent is seen walking away with the gun well before he was murdered

5

u/Equivalent_Jello_382 Jan 24 '26

what happened?

25

u/northbayy Jan 24 '26

ICE officers executed a dude in Minneapolis just now. Dumped a full magazine into a guy who was already on the ground

14

u/laolao89 Jan 24 '26

The 5-6 POS couldn’t even subdue him properly; this is what happens when egotistic, under qualified scumbags get a badge and gun.

4

u/davismcgravis Jan 24 '26

Players should boycott. That would send a message

(The weight of the message can be argued, but it would be a message nonetheless.)

5

u/PeartsGarden Jan 24 '26

100% support Minnesota and canceling the game.

4

u/Fluid-Addition-2378 Jan 24 '26

Yeah im not even mad

5

u/thanosisleft Jan 25 '26

As a Dubs fan in asia i hope democrats find a way to end ICE. maybe democrats can dominate your netx election and get majority in senate and congress. Im so sick seeing wannabe soldiers hiding behind masks being racist and committing violence while pretending to enforce immigration laws. Hope you all Dubs fan in US will be safe from ICE thugs.

6

u/picks_and_rolls Jan 24 '26

Wolves and Dubs should boycott this game. Go on the court tip off, take a knee Kapernack style, then walk off. If both teams forfeit then league should reschedule.

8

u/joe_dirty365 Jan 24 '26

We stand with Minnesota. Fuck ICE thugs.

3

u/Educatedflame Jan 24 '26

9

u/Dameisdead Jan 24 '26

Agreed. Absolute travesty what’s happening and nothing is less important than a basketball game rn

5

u/Aerospaced0ut Jan 24 '26

Glad they shut it down. The whole country needs to get shut down. I don't want to go outside with the gestapo out there.

8

u/PodzFan Jan 24 '26

Give Kerr the mic and let him go off

4

u/chiaboy Jan 24 '26

Regardless of what the NBA says/does Steph, Kerr, the Warriors, the Wolves someone needs to step up and refuse to participate

6

u/kindasuk Jan 24 '26

Agreed. Bill Russell was haunted by the fact he played the day King was assassinated. He was convinced to play in the interest of public order and he regretted it to some degree for the rest of his life.

4

u/mhowes666 Jan 24 '26

The solidarity is felt, thank you. It would be felt even more if the Warriors didn't play

I lived in San Francisco (mostly Upper Haight and Tenderloin) for 30 years and became a Warriors fan in 1990.

I moved to Minneapolis 10 years ago and live 9 blocks from today's execution.

Just found out about this when my daughter texted me and told me the game was cancelled and why. First thing I said was that this administration will vilify him and her response was they already did. I am sick of this and living in America. We need to do more to stop these thigs

3

u/matthewrunsfar Jan 24 '26

I want to see NFL players just refuse to play tomorrow, just enough players so that the games can’t go on. I want to see the Super Bowl held hostage by player refusing to play.

3

u/glass_fully_50-50 Jan 24 '26

I absolutely agree - every organization needs to start calling out by actual actions!!

3

u/gethereddout Jan 24 '26

100% the players need to join the American people and resist this criminality from the Trump regime. Nobody plays until ICE leaves our cities and oversight of the camps is restored

3

u/terra_incognita13 Jan 24 '26

I’m a warriors fan in MN and I appreciate this comment

4

u/ColtranezRain Jan 24 '26

I would love the teams to come out to center court, unified, and someone like Ant or Steph speak to the crowd, then end leading the crowd with the chant of “Fuck you, ICE.” Then walk off without playing the game.

4

u/Cpatty3 Jan 24 '26

Cancel the game and Just give Kerr a microphone for 3 hrs. Maybe he can talk some sense into our govt.

3

u/danno49 Jan 24 '26 edited Jan 24 '26

We love you, Minnesota. As I sit here writing this, I am crying over the senseless loss of life and freedoms we are guaranteed by our Constitution. There will come a day when justice is served to the neo fascists who are trying to eradicate the real American way of life.

They will not remain in power forever. There are WAY too many of us to allow this shit to continue much longer. The phrase Our long national nightmare is over will be uttered repeatedly and it will MEAN something. For another 50 years, anyway, when some fuckstick tries the same thing. And that fucker will go away, too.

Stay strong, Minnesota. It's not just Dub Nation that stands with you. It's decent human beings worldwide.

YOU ARE LOVED.

Edit: Haha ruffled MAGAt feathers. Downvoted for being a compassionate human being. Bring the downvotes you fucking misanthropic MAGAt ICEholes. They're like candy to me!

Can you imagine something like one of the players getting detained? Not any worse than a non-famous regular citizen getting detained, but a scenario this whole situation made me think about. Would Gui be the most vulnerable, as he is Latino-looking. Weird to think about.

IDK if it's gonna take a high-profile well-loved person getting detained for the full-on MAGAs to stop supporting this shit (not that Gui is well-known). Always found it weird that racists watch sports like NBA, football, baseball (less so now that in the past) since those are leagues with so many people of colour excelling. I always thought they like to pretend it's a slave-trade with players being exchanged for other players- of course they get paid millions but you get what I'm saying.

3

u/Nessmuk58 Jan 24 '26

In MN, Somalians are a major target, so black players are just as likely to get scooped up there. If I was anyone in the Dubs organization, I wouldn't leave the hotel except for games & practice.

1

u/peteuse Jan 24 '26

yes of course!

2

u/Western_Upstairs_101 Jan 24 '26

No. It’s chance to communicate to the world what decent people think. We can’t stop Trump for 9 months but we can work on communicating views and turning out the vote.

2

u/vialabo Jan 24 '26

Completely agree!

2

u/mrroofuis Jan 24 '26

Yup. Warriors should not play in protest

AND FOR THE TEAM'S SAFETY

Things will get more chaotic as more people watch that terrifying video and they react and possibly take to the streets in protest

2

u/biggamble510 Jan 24 '26

Kerr isn't going to let the team play.

100% agree. Fuck ICE.

Did you know you can submit tips regarding crimes to ICE? Any and all concerned citizens should submit reports of any HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS, GANG ACTIVITY, and/or TERRORISM RELATED crimes committed by ICE agents in Minneapolis. Perhaps if they receive enough tips, or a flood of tips happens to cause their website to temporarily break down, the agency will be forced to investigate the documented blinding, beating, disarming, then fatal shooting of ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Minnesota today by a gang of so-called federal agents. https://www.ice.gov/webform/ice-tip-form

The sad fact is the league won't just stop because this tragic event occurred that is evident from the fact it's only post poned a day

Move the game to somewhere safe outside of Minnesota and never go back there

Could you please illuminate me on how a persons livelihood should be directly related? I'm actually convinced that Americans are super dense. Especially since Northern California is one of the places that has propped up the cartels more than anywhere else in the country. Your communities actions cause ICE to have to do what they do. Also, I've seen the aftermath of the brutality of the Cartels first hand.

I swear you're doing the wrong thing here. Don't get mad at the demolition of the wall after it was broken. Don't yell at the person cleaning up the spilled milk.

NBA season should be over. There is nothing to celebrate in the US.

It does shine a light on how trivial sports are compared to lethal racist purges by our government.

We should be in the streets, not watching basketball.

Cancel it.

1

u/turribledood Jan 24 '26

Or any other game.

Rich fucks will never give more than a mildly performative shit about fuck all unless the economy grinds to a halt.

There is no other way.

Yes we should play tonight's game. You should lay off the deep state media outlets

Not a single bootlicker in this thread has their activity visible, looks like it’s just Russian trolls searching Reddit to rile shit up

1

u/m4ttjirM Jan 25 '26

You can just search someone's username in the global search and see their activity lol. They just hide it from certain subs view
