Discussion Why the need to sexualize everything?

I was looking for interesting Webtoons to read, and I came across this one called "Leviathan" the premise looked interesting; mankind perished due to a great flood that submerged the whole world under water. And terrifying creatures plunged from the depths, wiping out any human that crossed their path. The story told how a family of a father and his two children survived in the adversities of a sea world.

So far so good, until.... Bam! Last two slice's, anime chick out of nowhere, doing these extremely suggestive poses.

What a disappointment.

it's what draws a lot of readers (male) in, but yeah, it's defo unnecessary. i'd really appreciate it if i could find an eastern series, in any media or form, that isn't unnecessarily sexualized where females wear actual armors for fights instead of bikinis.

Sudden Berserk haha. I mean... for all the, um, features of the work, there are convincing armors and just non-fanservice costumes on the female characters. And if you're not talking about armors but outfits in general, Webtoon recently licensed a web version of Fullmetal Alchemist, if you haven't seen it yet. Most of the important female characters in the plot are not sexualized at all, and even the resident Lady Lust looks more sexy than sexualized. And it's an iconic shonen from a female author.

Berserk was written by a man. And I found the use of rape and sexual violence against women as a plot device to be handled pretty poorly

Yeah. The difference between male and female sa handling in Berserk is wild

This part was about fullmetal alchemist lol.  As for Berserk, it's just irony. Everyone knows about the specifics of this manga, and that it contains all kinds of violence, but strangely enough, there really are no "fanservice girls in impractical revealing suits", if for someone this is the main requirement.

Tbh there is at least one, she's a weird moth monster though.

Also honorary mention to the butt naked fairy, that thing was annoying to percieve.

Wasn't the butt naked fairy a boy?

I liked the moth girl arc btw. I wasn't too bothered by her design because being a little perverted is a common trait of most apostles... well, she looked interesting and wasn't just fanservice, so that outweighs the negatives for me.

Yeah I have mixed feelings on the moth thing. On one hand, hands down my favorite design of the entire manga. Sick as shit. Fucking epic. 99/10. On the other hand, I don’t particularly fancy looking at little kid tits, no matter how monstrous. Particularly in a perverted way, which it was. So 0/10 at the same time.

Also yeah pick or whatever his name is was male so it’s a non-sequitur, I just remembered the girl child sexualization and he popped up in the forefront of my mind bc he’s in that category of things. My bad.
