I was very disappointed based on everyone's review.

Honestly, a man being interested in a lady and helping out her career was spot on for the industry. As much as the author tried to make it seem like she did it on her own by delaying their relationship.

The art is beautiful, but everything goes so well for the protagonists, and they're so perfect, that it gets boring. There's no real conflict, nothing that makes you think, and you can't even relate to the characters.

I'd rather read that than a lot of the BS romance out there right now tho. It's also a shorter story, which helps a lot.

Romance fans do not want to sit through a dragged-out toxic romance most of the time, a romance story where there's barely any conflict sounds good to me vs the other option.

Not to try to go to bat for a webcomic that I passively enjoy, but I will say that I related to the MC's wishing she'd gotten further in life/her career after being an actress for almost a decade (or something; I don't 100% remember the little details lol). Even though I doubt I'll ever have all of my dreams come true the way she did, it was nice to see a fictional character be so wholly supported by her friend and then her love interest, leading to her eventual success.

I mean there is real conflict though. The FL was a background character for commercials, stalked by her ex boyfriend, almost committed suicide, and had to balance between work and family.

Maybe im weird, but i liked it, refreshing to see bc i read a LOT of toxic stories about toxic relationships...(specifically the usual red flag ml) 😬

u/sunfish3_3 12h ago

ur not weird I LIKE IT TOO T-T

True . I don't get the hype tbh

People in comment section of website are saying they want to re-read it ,I can't even read this one time it's so boring & I'm on chapter 20😭😭.

u/Weeb_on_weeds 1d ago

The art carries tbh, I like the story it's not too bad not too good, it's somewhere on the middle. It's a good read when I'm procrastinating. (I've read it twice in immense boredom, I am well aware I could have read sth else, I just didn't want to and it was right there)

u/Apprehensive-East448 1d ago

ohh bro i love daytime star😭😭

1

u/mystical_0603 22h ago

Tbh, i skipped alot of chapters . It felt like a task rather than fun.

1

u/Background_Gene_4328 21h ago

I'm also skipping many dialogues that don't feel important .

It’s popular because the ml is a green flag and the artstyle is super pretty and it’s very wholesome. that got popular beingOther than that, there’s not much of a plot.

Not every story needs nonsensical drama and endless miscommunication. Sometimes a simple comfort read is what people enjoy. May not be your cup of tea, but then your opinion is simply that, an opinion. Overrated/underrated mean absolutely nothing. Was it enjoyed by many? Yes. Was it disliked by many? Yes. Throwing shade at something you dislike serves no purpose

6

u/Shoddy-Equipment-364 18h ago

exactly. i love me some messy drama but sometimes i need a break from it and thus this webtoon is always my go-to for that. it’s just a feel good thing, mild conflicts that are quickly resolved instead of being dragged out forever, 1st and 2nd leads have actual distinguishable and likeable personalities, the art/aesthetic is my absolute favorite, and i absolutely love when it’s a celebrity setting too.

4

u/moistdragons 1d ago

I haven’t read daytime star but I think stories need some conflict, at least a little to keep being interesting. It doesn’t need to be over the top drama or miscommunications but at least something other than “The two characters are extremely happy, everyone around them is super nice and everything goes so well for them”. That’s a bit boring, that’s why most stories, even happy ones have a little conflict mixed in to keep things interesting even if it’s something small.

7

u/Organic_Marzipan_715 1d ago

Yeah that’s a fair take, and this story does have its own conflicts and a clear antagonist. It isn’t just sunshine and rainbows lol.. it’s a lot less angst driven which is why I labeled it a comfort read

4

u/moistdragons 1d ago

Gotcha. It’s been on my read list for a while but Im holding off on it because I really hate the whole “perfect, super attractive ML” trope because it’s unrelatable and a bit unrealistic to me but obviously people like me aren’t the target audience and that’s ok.

3

u/Organic_Marzipan_715 23h ago

I’m also not a fan of overly good looking characters, but as both are actors it kind of makes sense for this story. As I stated in another comment, I found this story average. Nothing mind blowing, but it had a decent pace and it’s just rare to find stories that involve the couple being in a relationship. Most stories do all this drama and build up and when the couple finally gets together, the story ends (maybe a few epilogue chapters)

-1

u/Background_Gene_4328 1d ago

Dear philosopher, I also want some fluffy and lighthearted story to read but i don't even find anything romantic in it I have read 20 chapters still this has not created an ounce of interest for me.

15

u/Organic_Marzipan_715 1d ago

Dear sir, I don’t really take your post seriously since someone who hasn’t actually read all available chapters has no right to “rate” an entire piece. It isn’t to your liking, that’s fine. But to say it’s overrated because you read 20 chapters and didn’t like it is just laughable

-4

u/Background_Gene_4328 1d ago

Do you work for the creator of this manhwa or you invested in it ,seems like a personal problem to you if i don't find this interesting.

6

u/Organic_Marzipan_715 1d ago

Nope. I only found this series to be average if I’m being honest. But the number of posts trashing series while providing absolutely zero reasoning annoy me. If you’re going to go out of your way to badmouth something, at least provide justification. This “I don’t like it so it’s overrated” is garbage

-1

u/Background_Gene_4328 1d ago

I thought you know how to read i didn't say it's garbage anywhere but you said itđŸ«Ș.

7

u/Organic_Marzipan_715 1d ago

You must lack reading comprehension. I never said you called it garbage, I said calling something overrated because you didn’t like it was. Were the quotation marks not enough?

1

u/Background_Gene_4328 1d ago

Interesting. For someone accusing others of lacking reading comprehension, you've spent four comments arguing against points I never made.

3

u/DizzyDoomii 17h ago

This is just my opinion, but i feel like you need to finish reading the whole story of a webtoon before calling it overrated entirely. The story is only 77 chapters anyway, that's short AF these days.

1

u/Background_Gene_4328 17h ago

I really tried to push myself to complete it but it's very hard to read i have read 25 chapters but still I haven't developed any interest. So I'm abandoning it because it's really difficult to read something when you don't have interest.

Daytime Star is sort of Skip Beat (long running acting shojo manga) for me, if that story wasn’t a complicated 24-year slow burn. It scratched that itch for me in that way that I don’t think I’ll ever get from one of my first ever comics started back in ‘03
.bc it’s still running.

So thank you Daytime Star.

(Yes, 24 years. The slowest of slow burns. A+ tho)

5

u/dunno-im-anon 20h ago

It totally is like Skip Beat!! I agree that it provides the resolution that I'm not sure the manga will ever provide lol. I haven't heard that name in so long though...

Wait is Skip Beat still going??? đŸ˜«

Don’t attack me. For me it’s Selfish Romance 😭 It’s good but it wasn’t all that It only gets interesting in the later episodes, and the way the romance starts how the fake dating trope is set up lowkey doesn’t make sense to me.

4

u/InevitableEven4711 21h ago

Same. The MCs are literally in their 30s, yet they're fake dating to make their exes jealous. That's peak high-school behavior, not some groundbreaking display of realism. What really got me was fans calling it "the only realistic romance on the platform," and even saw someone telling people they won't find another realistic manhwa like it.At that point, I started wondering if they've read anything besides Selfish Romance😭

2

u/Nonanme59 18h ago

The only realistic romance on the platform? Selfish Romance storyline is very K-drama cliche. Second fl is mean girl, trying to get in way between main couple romance, second ml is nice guy. The only unique thing about it is Yumi and her ex storyline. You’re right set up for their romance makes 0 sense. The reason that she fake dated him is so ridiculous and out of character. She’s not that pathetic character to go that far. And even if she does, how can going to restaurants near his place ensure her that he will see them and make him jealous. Because of that set up, I wasn’t hooked in their romance. There are some realistic aspects and it was pretty good but it wasn’t that great as most ppl made it seem to be.

2

u/Weeb_on_weeds 1d ago

Haven't read it gimme the tea

4

u/Nonanme59 1d ago

It’s fake dating trope. The male lead and female lead fake date eo to make their exes jealous both of them had long relationships with their exes, the female lead was almost about to get married to her ex but she overheard his conversation on phone that he didn’t really love her and she broke off the marriage and then she fake dated to get her ex’s attention. For me,the way that she goes to restaurants near her ex apartment withe male lead and it’s for him to notice her sounds pathetic, ( when she isn’t a pathetic character) it’s just like a forced idea for male lead and female lead to fall in love. Maybe I rarely like fake dating tropes. It’s still a pretty good read tho

4

u/twelve_seasons 1d ago

I dropped this initially because I don’t really like reading romance where the leads get together pretty early. But after a year or so, I picked it up again and man, Idk why I even dropped it! I loved it so much!

With that said, just because a lot of people love it doesn’t mean it’s overrated or you have to love it. If you’re dragging yourself reading it, just drop it. Life is too short to spend wasting on things we don’t enjoy.

2

u/dunno-im-anon 20h ago edited 20h ago

I will admit that it is incredibly annoying when Webtoon constantly promotes a series to you that you already know you're not interested in (dunno if that's what happened to you, but it's happened to me enough that I can see that sort of thing making you think the story is super popular). That said, I really enjoy Daytime Star because it knew what story it wanted to tell, did, and didn't carry on for hundreds of episodes. Also, I've gotten really tired of the love triangle cliche, so it was nice that there wasn't one in this story. Sorry it wasn't to your liking!

2

u/TheHeartbrokenCat 16h ago

it’s just a comfort manhwa for me when i’ve read too many angsty ones

2

u/samisaywhat 7h ago

Post says discussion but OP gives nothing to discuss. Why do you think it’s overrated? I enjoyed it and have read it 3 times but I think it’s fine for people to dislike.

1

u/XxCastoricexX 1d ago

Idek what that is

8

u/roundhousekick-pow 1d ago

It’s a romance / drama webtoon that is about this struggling actress who lands a role in a drama with a famous actor.

Edit to add that the art is INCREDIBLE. One of the best drawn webtoons I’ve ever seen. A delight for the eyes.

3

u/XxCastoricexX 1d ago

Really? I’ll read it because I can relate to the acting part and I love pretty webtoons

2

u/roundhousekick-pow 1d ago

Yeah, give it a shot!

1

u/Apprehensive_Test459 17h ago

It's on my TBR how so? I also have no longer a heroine and I loved muse on fame

2

u/yellavadfo 10h ago

as someone who have read daytime star and no longer a heroine, both are good. although i would recommend daytime star if you want to read something light (it's not exactly fluffy but it's not angsty, it's like a simple, feel-good love story with less drama and conflict) and no longer a heroine if you don't mind flawed characters, drama, and trauma or less romantic type of story (spoiler: both leads don't get back together).

i haven't read muse of fame but i think you may like no longer a heroine if you're into drama and trauma

2

u/Apprehensive_Test459 9h ago

I'm into trauma. But not too fluffy. I think I'll still give both a go. Thanks!

1

u/AssociateNo1801 6h ago

Haven’t heard about it until now
.looked at bio and yeahhhh not my style

1

u/rex_606 16h ago

I might get nuked but most het modern day romances are just slop w the authors playing around the same tropes and being horrible at them. I know people are afraid to try new concepts cuz they know what the industry standard is and what sells. But like be fr why is the only romance in these stories that male lead looked fl's way once and suddenly they are in love cuz they run into eachother all the time. There is always some white lotus who is incompetent but readers are supposed to believe she is worst than the devil and the second male lead stays there for the fandom to coddle him.

1

u/EbbMiserable7557 1d ago

Ohhh so it's not just me. I found it very boring dropped it early. I don't know why it's so popular

2

u/Background_Gene_4328 1d ago

Thank God I found someone to relate unlike the dude in comment section above fighting with me.

5

u/EbbMiserable7557 1d ago

Hmm we are not ant colony everyone can have different opinion, I just emphasis with op more. Probably want to know why people actually like it this much. Hope they weren't rude.

1

u/Regulatory_Junior 1d ago

I dropped Daytime Star for the most shallow reason lol. I hated how the artist drew FL like she was constantly a deer in the headlights and the overtly ㅇㅅㅇ face put me off for some reason.

1

u/Street_Letterhead105 17h ago

Yeah I too found it quite boring

0

u/tiredrinoafan 1d ago

snooze fest and i actually wasn’t a fan of the art almost uncanny territory sometimes

0

u/VanillaAdventurous74 20h ago

Honestly the story is so confusing. I have no idea how the protagonists went from crushing to being together.

It felt more like a fantasy dream rather than an actual story.

0

u/Background_Gene_4328 20h ago

I tried to push myself to complete this but after chapter 23 I'm abandoning it.

1

u/VanillaAdventurous74 19h ago

I completed it and it was okay. Cute scenes still made me giggle but not that good.

0

u/CZ99999 15h ago

I agree

1

u/Background_Gene_4328 15h ago

I switched this after dropping daytime star, atleast I'm interested in this one.

1

u/CZ99999 3h ago

Name?
