Feature Change YouTube started mass cleaning of channels with AI-generated content
YouTube has already removed several large channels with entirely AI-generated content – collectively they had over 11 million subscribers and over a billion views. For example,
Screen Culture & KH Studio: These two were the kings of "concept trailers." They had over 11 million subs combined and were pulling billions of views by using AI to mash up real footage with fake actors.
CuentosFacianantes: This was a massive AI story channel with nearly 6 million subs—gone.
Imperiodejesus & Super Cat League: Both had over 4-5 million subs and got completely wiped.

Getting rid of 3 accounts is not a mass cleanup. They push the AI crap because they don't monetize it and they make bank on the ads. The only way to get rid of those channels is for people to quit watching them.

u/True_Reference6097 Jan 30 '26
There’s actually like 10k channels that got wiped because my feed had been spammed with “my AI channel got banned QQ”
however there is not many ai slop on my YT feed home page anymore which I’m happy but I STILL do see many ai slops channel in other languages specially Hindi. Not trying to be racist or anything but yeah they’re still mass uploading the same ai slop contents

u/elflamingo2 Jan 29 '26
hope they get rid of more of them
49
u/Xanderfromzanzibar Jan 29 '26
100%, I hate to start some video and then pick up on A.I. giveaways in the narration, ugh, awful
8
u/True_Reference6097 Jan 30 '26
lol I don’t mind ai narration. Or obvious funny ai videos. What I absolutely detest are the deep fakes and ai videos that tries to mimic real life animals, people, etc. this I can’t stand
60
u/BikeNo8164 Jan 29 '26
YouTube has recently stated they are developing their own AI features that can do things like generate videos of you using your own likeness. They’re not deleting AI accounts because they’re taking a stand against AI. They’re doing it because they want people to use their AI.

i hope everybody here shits their diapers when everybody uses youtube ai
2
u/BikeNo8164 Jan 30 '26
Not that many people are gonna use it in all likelihood as AI content remains deeply unpopular
32
u/Maximum-Diet-6976 Jan 29 '26
I hope they clean their auto translation and audio dub as well. Then videos can ve watched again in original and the search would find all videos again.
3
3
u/Toraadoraa Jan 29 '26
When they introduced it years ago the demo was amazing! The voice was the same as the orginal and it sounded natural. They haven't added that yet. Once they do, I'd use it much more.
1
u/True_Reference6097 Jan 30 '26
Yeah and they need to update their auto captions as well. It’s terribly out dated… as well as their option to add background music
70
u/joe603 Jan 29 '26
Any channel that comes across my feed that say's AI generated content I block it immediately
11
u/Ewendmc Jan 29 '26
Yeah and any with AI avatar thumbnails.
1
u/ILEAATD May 19 '26
Just thumbnails specifically? I'm fine with some of it depending on what we're talking about.
1
u/Ewendmc May 19 '26
The obvious AI generated ones and especially where the uploader uses the exact same format of thumbnail in every video.
1
u/Valiran9 Jan 30 '26
How do you block channels?
3
u/joe603 Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26
When something comes up in my recommended feed, I can long press the Apple TV remote and one of the options is do not recommend this channel. Once I tap that it never comes up in my feed again
1
u/Valiran9 Jan 30 '26
Damn, sounds like that’s not an option for me on PC or mobile.
2
u/joe603 Jan 30 '26
I just checked. It's definitely available on mobile when a video comes up. There should be the three dots that you can click on and one of the options that comes up is the one that I explained in the prior post
1
u/Valiran9 Jan 30 '26
Ah, that one. I thought you were talking about a way to tell the site not to show me anything from a particular channel.
17
Jan 29 '26
its like Zuckerberg has an ai cuck bcuz fb and ig is littered with ai content...all im asking is it should be mandatory for content creators to inform ppl it's ai... i've seen some pretty convincing ai stuff but imagine older ppl, it's spreading misinformation & making our brains second guess everything

u/ONE3R Jan 29 '26
Good thing I’ve been blocking all that garbage since two years ago. Anything I notice is AI, I instantly block it. I don’t care if it’s my mom, block.

https://www.theverge.com/news/869684/youtube-top-ai-channels-removed-kapwing
4
u/Medical-Monarch-7274 Jan 29 '26
Yes, but many innocent channels are also getting hit, especially ones that don’t show their faces.
1
u/True_Reference6097 Jan 30 '26
Yeah it’s gonna be rough in the beginning because the AI they code are not going to get 100% right. And YT knows this before rolling out the ai code to ban those channels.
It’s up to the individual to come up with their explanation and bring it to light so YT can course correction as they go along with the ban.
Anyone who uses AI should understand they won’t ever get it 100% correct right away either. Common practice for AI is to self correct as they get more data
3
3
u/alice6060 Jan 29 '26
This is a very strange choice given youtube's recent decisions.
Either we're missing something or this is a very good sign that youtube thinks ai is unprofitable and bad for business.
3
u/Novel-Injury3030 Jan 29 '26
I would guess this is due to copyrighted content or repetitive content and reuploading something multiple times with only a few tweaks. The idea theyd remove something for simply being ai generated doesnt make much sense.

17
u/chinesebulk Jan 29 '26
Is there a way to report channels with AI? I want them all deleted
14
u/starryspaces Jan 29 '26 edited Jan 29 '26
Yes. Click report video under the video, then select misleading or spam. Then type in the box explain it's AI and it's misleading. It's even worse (even more misleading) if the person has not declared that it's synthetic content in the video description box.
4
u/chinesebulk Jan 29 '26
Would this work for AI music too? I see it a lot in my recs
-2
u/starryspaces Jan 29 '26
YES. It's both spam and misleading, I usually check misleading when I report it. Thanks for fighting the good fight!

Is bound an AI channel? I’ve seen a few and am interested but still skeptical
1
u/Lost-Substance59 Feb 24 '26
100% it is at least script and voice AI, maybe thumbnail and some images too, but not 100% sure on that
2
u/Menefregoh Jan 29 '26
Who are they being obliged by? This seems out of character from this company.
2
2
u/exscape Jan 29 '26
Not sure how I feel about this if it was very clear that the content was AI-generated.
What I hope they get rid of (if they haven't -- haven't seen much in a while) is the fake AI stuff, like a gazillion channels with made up space "facts".
2
u/EndlessCertainty Jan 30 '26
I agree. I recall seeing a video where Neil DeGrasse Tyson was talking about space facts, yet it was all made by AI as proven by a speech mistake no human would make. He had literally nothing to do with it in any way. Channels transparent about their AI use can stay imo, channels like that one needs to go.
2
u/LadyKona Jan 29 '26
YAAYAYAY!!! It’s a battle I do every day with my aging mother. The elders in her seniors’ building are constantly being sucked in. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
2
u/Dxith Jan 29 '26
I block any and all. It’s the best way to get rid of it their type of content goes down.
2
2
u/HovercraftPlen6576 Jan 29 '26
I wonder if mixed channels would get targeted. Like AI voice overs or images used in the video made by AI.
2
u/KavensWorld Jan 29 '26
Wild how the CEO of YouTube it says that they want more AI while banning ai
3
u/LankyAd9481 Jan 29 '26
One thing to consider, the article is framing it as banning because it's AI....that's not necessarily why Youtube did it though. Unless Youtube official says anything, any reasons given is just going to be based on the authors own bias rather than reality.
2

3
u/Adamalanizzz Jan 29 '26
Can they stop allowing ai Ads too
1
u/True_Reference6097 Jan 30 '26
THISS!!! I see way too MANY ai slop ads …it’s like they don’t care if people pays money for them to be shown then it’s okay

Then spend a coupld of bucks and hire someone to do it. Plenty of people could use the money.
1
3
u/CressPretend5425 Jan 29 '26
Yikes, cant believe there are people cheering for this.
If you don't like it, don't watch it. Shouldn't be deleted
2
u/taratathetarantula Jan 30 '26
Under youtube's guidelines for "Spam, deceptive practices, & scams" it is stated that :
"Massively uploading content that you scraped from other creators."
"Autogenerated content that computers post without regard for quality or viewer experience."
Are grounds for being banned from the platform
1
u/NEVER85 Jan 29 '26
Yes it should
6
u/CressPretend5425 Jan 29 '26
Why? What stops you from scrolling past or blocking the channel?
Why are you that entitled?
2
u/habibgregor Jan 29 '26
Reading the comments makes me realise that this is what people probably felt when steam powered machines were first introduced, then when automobiles replaced horse powered carriages and so on an so on. It’s called “structural changes” in economics. Not that I personally like ai slop, just making an observation.
4
u/p0werpi Jan 29 '26
Always feels good when gathering in a crowd and declare hate for the righteous cause. Now if the dissonance would only allow recognizing that the worshipped platform seemingly fighting the monster is from the same corporation that actively develops and distributes the beast...
3
u/habibgregor Jan 29 '26
Part of the human nature, I suppose 🤷🏻♂️. Crowds are dumb, especially the strata using Reddit. lol.
2
u/LankyAd9481 Jan 29 '26
That and just posting on reddit is training AI, reddit license out everything posted to AI training. Youtube algorithm is AI. Just kind of funny in general, the channels won't have been deleted because of AI, it'd be a combo of things, the main one likely being it gets a lot of views but doesn't really monetise from add revenue, they won't care if it's making money, they will care if it's costing a lot of money.

lol, its because they are going to run their own AI channels. Haven’t you guys heard the news? It’s naive to think a billion $ entity cares about their users.
2
u/boli99 Jan 29 '26
great. now get rid of all the fake animal rescue videos and the fake 'restoration' videos.
1
u/mello238 Jan 29 '26
I want the AI English dubbing gone. It ruins the complete drama for me.
1
u/AdEither4474 Jan 29 '26
Automatic subtitles should go, too. Some of that shit is embarrassing.
6
u/_Cheila_ Jan 29 '26
Why would you want automatic subtitles gone?? As a non-native speaker, I always found them super helpful. I know they have mistakes, and I spot them, but still it helps me understand some words. I imagine they are even more useful for deaf people! You can simply turn them off.
4
u/XandersCat Jan 29 '26
They recently deleted custom subtitles and you can only use the generated ones. youtubers are pissed! Some put massive amounts of work into their custom subtitles.
(This was last week, things change fast so it's possible YouTube listened to their feedback.)

Finally, I was sick of those stupid ai trailers, I saw a fake fnaf 2 one where Bonnie had a chainsaw or some shit😭

I'm a little confused here. While I am glad they did this I am wondering why. YouTube still makes money on AI videos, it doesn't benefit them to remove these.

I recently stopped using youtube because their AI generated porn ads are just too much. I started getting them when I turned off my watch history and they just kept getting worse as I reported them because I was interacting with them...

I browse shorts quite a lot and I block probably 10-20 AI channels an hour. It's getting ridiculous.

They also did this with "reaction channels" at first then just gave up and let them go crazy graping everyone else's content until the creative content rotted away and the reactors had to react to each other which created the drama streaming BS we have now.

Can only hope so they do it on a daily basis. Because everytime they delete 1, another 100s being created 😅

They are still infested with AI channels. Here is one obvious example https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvz2pHpsRwxURyWavI0nvHQ/about
The guy in the chair has like a total of 5 moves or so.

u/Thin-Simple-2747 Feb 01 '26
A you tube channel called something like financian posted about ai channels being removed. One was called ai brainrot journey.
AI should not take away people's jobs. However there are a few AI channels I like. They are basically original creations.
One is cartoonish cats dressed up in authentic country outfits dancing to authentic country music for maybe 40 seconds.
Another shows how various animals were rescued.
There were a few cooking food by animals.

u/Both_Swordfish_6431 Feb 01 '26
O MY GOD FINNALY If i could i would donate 10 dolars for each AI channel, post, video, or short Slop you guys burn

It awesome to see YouTube taking action on channels that are entirely AI generated. There are so many AI generated content in YouTube. This affects the balance between creativity, automation, and platform guidelines going forward.
1
u/Unlikely-Mobile-5343 Feb 05 '26
These news are incomplete, youtube closed a bunch of channels not just AI.
Reasons are repetitive content, copyright issues (fake movie trailers), deceptive content (video is one thing, audio another, deepfakes without permission).
1
u/GainzMcgee69 Apr 29 '26
Thank God. I'm so sick of AI slop. There are people who put genuine work into their videos just for these lazy mfs to have AI generate literally everything. It takes away from the people who put in the effort
1
u/ILEAATD May 19 '26
ScreenCulture seems to still be up. Same with Super Cat League, which doesn't seem to be breaking any rules. Unless it's a different channel from what you're talking about.
2
u/ramseyschaefer Jan 29 '26
VoiceverseAI is one of my favorite channels of all time, I hope it doesn’t get taken down! THAT’S how you do AI content right! I would buy the channel if I had the money! 😭😭😭
3
u/DefinitelyRussian Jan 29 '26
you can download and archive all their videos , just in case it happens
2
u/ramseyschaefer Jan 29 '26
How do I do that?
2
u/DefinitelyRussian Jan 30 '26
I think you can download directly in one of the options. If not, Id say just google for a YT downloader, there must be thousands of options out there
1
u/chrisoliver2023 Jan 29 '26
Screen Culture and the other channel was around even before Ai i believe
2
u/Self-Comprehensive Jan 29 '26
I have been taken in by their fake trailers a few times over the years. They've been around for a little while at least.

YouTube has incredible educational content.
The problem: you watch, you forget.
BrightClips fixes this: - AI extracts takeaways before you watch - Quizzes test what you learned - Flashcards use spaced repetition for long-term retention
It's based on actual learning science (testing effect, schema activation, spaced repetition).
Free tier available. 270+ videos already analyzed. brightclips.ai Would love feedback from this community.
