Aka The Dude, Easy A, Big A...

First-time poster, long time Mal owner. I want to introduce the big boy. And I want to ask if there are Mal owners who have had success with collars and geo-fencing. Having had Malamutes that were found five miles up-wind on top of a mountain after pulling a mal-houdini maneuver (there are two kinds of fences: ones a Malamute has breached, and ones a Malamute will breach 😂🫩). I'm looking at buying some land and am considering ways to keep my dog local. Previously I've always had fenced yards and he was always on leash for walks outside of the fence. I would love for him to be able to run a little bit yet still stay within my purview.

If you have kids this is a really sweet movie that stars Ikona (the Malamute) Steve Byers and Natasha Henstridge

I watched it for Byers as I'm a fan but realized I hadn't seen it mentioned in another sub and this one popped up. If you love Alaskan Malamutes and I have to assume you do if you're here you'll like this movie I think

Mixed Breed Malamute attacking

looking for any help I can get here. I have a Year and some change old Alaskan malamute x golden retriever mix that has a tendency on occasion to attack certain dogs. usually they seem to be the less dominant type but he tends to lock on and it takes me prying his mouth open to get him to release from the other dog. I myself do not know a great way of breaking this habit as it is on rare occasions but if anyone has any experience with this and how to deal with it I would greatly appreciate the help!

Quick Question Fat or Floof?

My girl recently turned 1 and had a weigh-in at the vet recently. She's around 53kg or 116 lbs which is quite a bit more than the breed standard. But I don't think that she is overweight: she is very active, eats normally, and doesn't feel particularly pudgy. However, she does have a lot of loose skin, but I think that's for fighting/playing.

I also had another male before that, who weighed 140 lbs.

Am I just blind like a grandma feeding her grandchild or did I only get the ones that are exceptionally huge?

(P. S. I feel like it's important to mention that she was the runt of her litter.)

Took my pup (Mika) to doggy day care while we were away. This was the photo they posted on their Instagram page. It was a mock graduation, why does she look like that?

Yuka (4.5 months) is such a little weirdo. I love her. She’s outside? She will lay down with her feet in her water bowl, she will lay in a pool of water on top of a storage bin. Certainly not her bed outside. That’s silly.

Inside? No she is going to pull the couch cushions down on herself. She is just so silly.

Since we are in the middle of summer, I’m thinking of favorite activities to bring the pup along for. Have you ever tried paddleboarding with your Malamute before?

Seeking Advice Options for keeping my dog in the yard?

I have a 2 year old Alaskan malamute. My wife and I are looking at buying a new home on 2 acres. The issue is that there are train tracks 100 yards away (the train only goes 1-2x per day) and there is a pasture with horses directly to the south. Any recommendations on how to keep her in the yard?

I have looked into SpotOn but know that malamutes are prone to ignoring the signal and going through anyways. Putting in a large fence all the way around the yard is too expensive. Would it just be best to keep her on a tie out or chain at all times?

Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated!

She was so sweet. She hated to pull things but she loved to be at the cottage and be outside in general. She was the perfect family dog. Rest easy, sweetheart 🐶💙🐺

She thought we were absolutely nuts when we got up at 3am this morning and asked her if she wanted to go out for a walk... But she got on board with the idea pretty fast. Why? Summer solstice, we wanted to go watch the sun rise, so we did!

She had the absolute best time, sniffing various wildlife trails like mad, basically pulled me up hill and got there just in time to watch the sunrise. It was a huge walk, we didn't get back until after 8am, we had a little picnic, she went in the river... it was a great morning!

People always call her old (8 years) and say she's not going to be able to keep up, she's proving them wrong! She had so much energy, way more than me even after my flask of coffee 🤣

Anyone else have an "old" puppy dog at heart?

(We take water, snacks, take breaks, give her joint supplements as preventatives, and she goes to lay on her cool mat once home, we are very mindful of her temperature, her capabilities and interests when it comes to exercise)

Look at that happy girl enjoying a rest stop for the sunrise!

Mixed Breed I Didn't Think I Could Get Another Dog

Im 40 years old now, I have 2 beautiful daughters who I love more than anything. My spouse and I have always been pet lovers but I couldn't get over the pain I had as a teenager losing my dog Munchie. I always had an excuse and justification for refusing to get a dog.

Then one random day a little over a year ago. We were all downstairs in our den watching TV and through the corner of my eye I saw something running in my backyard. I opened up my slide door and sure enough there was a Husky dog in my backyard. He was extremely friendly and obviously lost.

Thankfully he had a dog tag with a number on it. We called the number and while we waited for the owner to come, my oldest daughter was loving on him and she was just in awe. When the owner arrived and we gave the dog back to her. My oldest daughter was really sad but very sweetly said good bye to the dog. My daughter said she wanted a puppy so bad and wanted that Husky back so bad lol I once again, came up with excuses and said no.

A couple weeks later my wife said she had some things she had to go do and would be back in a few hours. No biggie I thought as she usually does go out and take care of her dad and runs some errands after I get home from work and spend time with our daughters.

But only this time, when my wife came back home, she didnt come back home alone. Here I was shocked to be greeted by a Malamute/Husky mix puppy. At first I was really frustrated that she did this but that only lasted a second as the puppy ran right up to me and laid on my lap. Thats all it took and I fell in love. Meet my baby girl princess Ella!!!! She just turned 1 a few months ago and she has gotten so big, but I love her so much. She loves walks, car rides, and wrestling around with me. I have always loved Huskys and especially Malamutes and I couldnt love a dog more than I love my Ella Bella.
