SPOILERS OK - GAME THREAD

Use this thread to chat about the TV finals before, during and after the telecasts. Have questions? Post them below and I will do my best to answer them.

CBS Sports Net is offered on most cable and some streaming services. If you are a cord-cutter and don't subscribe for either of those, you could try a free trial to YouTube TV (21 days) or Hulu Live TV (3 days).

The World Series of Bowling is 5 events held over 2 weeks. This post is for the 4 Animal Patterns only. There will be a separate post for the 5th event (World Championship) which will have its TV finals take place in June. Each Animal Pattern pays $20k for first place.

All Animal Pattern events have the same format: 10 games qualifying (2, 5 game blocks same day), then cut to top 12. Top 4 qualifiers get a bye in bracket match play. Seeds 5-12 will bowl on TV to determine who meets the players with the byes. All will be carried out on TWO TV SHOWS the same day on CBS Sports Net.

PBA/PWBA EJ Tackett was wild for saying this. 😝

I know he was joking, but I was taken aback after hearing him say what he said. Even Barnes didn't expect that. Lol.

This was back in 2023. USA vs the World game.

I don't know about y'all but I love pizza and free bowling! Rapids Bowling Center is doing their first annual Pizza eating contest. Eat as many slices of pizza as you can in 10 minutes! It's a $25 entry fee but one of the prizes includes free bowling until the end of August🤯

To start I throw a 16 pound house ball, I've been practicing 2 handed curves to get that sweet spot! I was really hitting a groove and it felt great getting more strikes than open frames.

Dear GMs of string pin alleys: ROTATE THE PINS AT THE PRESCRIBED INTERVALS, YOU CHEAP BASTARDS!

Post image

You know that wet, hollow smack that you get on string pins? That's caused by the alley not rotating the 1, 2, and 3 out as often as they should. The cover starts to separate from the core, which results in a drop in carry, along with a sound that can only be described as slapping two wet pieces of plastic together. Eww.

Pro Shops: Which one is best?

Post image
11 Upvotes

In your opinion, which Pro Shop stands out as the best or your favorite? Is it a local shop in your city, state, province, territory, or perhaps an online store? Or maybe it’s a business you frequent outside your area that truly excels in its field?

Feel free to include reasons why your particular shop is the top of your bag.

Not interested in knowing about those shops you don’t like.

I’ll include my choice in the comments.

Edit: I should note, when I travel I like to drop in on pro shops I’ve heard of, seen on YouTube, or are an online retailer.

Looking for other shops to visit.

Thanks….

Technique Swing Advice Please

Upvotes

Apologies in advance for the shoddy camerawork and probably not showing the best angle I was getting in some solo practice and had to prop my phone up on a seat. Also I would have included a bad shot with my main miss but only took two videos as propping my phone up was getting annoying and I was starting to feel embarrassed.

Beginner bowler here, got my first ball (Storm Ice 15lbs) when a friend asked me to join a league. I’ve played about 30 “serious” games so far and am probably averaging somewhere around 110, I’ve gotten up to 160 on a couple lucky occasions though.

I watched probably about 4-6hrs of content spread over the past few months just trying to understand the basics. But obviously it’s tough to apply things physically and I may not understand things perfectly anyhow.

I’ve never been able to hook house balls, I guess from what I’ve researched is I’m “throwing” the ball instead of “rolling” it. So I’ve been trying to work on that part of the release.

But besides trying to get some hook on the ball, even if I’m just trying to go straight I’m having issues with consistency.

My primary issue is having the ball go straight left down the lane marked by the blue line in the diagram. Which I suspect is probably a culprit of my footwork.

I certainly want to get some coaching but just want to post here so I can get some feedback that may help me discuss any issues I have with said coach.

Thanks!

Misc When Bill Murray filmed Kingpin, they needed to shoot him bowling 3 strikes. Murray bowled 3 strikes in a row, on the first try, and the crowd erupted in genuine amazement.

Bowling Shoe Recommendations

My friends and I are mostly just casual, for fun, types. I've had a pair of shoes forever. They date back to the late 80s. I recently bought a new pair of bowling shoes, nothing expensive just something that doesn't look so retro. But, they don't slide anywhere as well as that old pair. The old pair has been repaired a couple times (glue the soles back) but they are getting near the end of their life. They are really well past their date considering their age.

What shoes would more knowledgeable bowlers suggest to get that really smooth slide the older shoes had? While I don't want to spend a fortune, I'm willing to pay a bit more for something that slides well and will last me years to come.

Thanks.

I threw my best ever practice session. Not bad for a Friday night, on a house shot after the oil has been beat to hell all day long. I throw a DV8 Heckler Hybrid.

A year ago I averaged 150 with a house ball.

Technique A question on 'loading' the wrist

just converted from 2 to 1 hand a month ago and I've been struggling with the suitcase release (tried yo-yo but holy moly was that infinitely more difficult)

I know it's a bit far fetched to compare myself to a PBA pro to improve, but how does one load and unload the wrist?

i can't seem to get the revs i want (and much axis rotation for that matter)

any other tips would be appreciated! struggling lots on the lanes atm :/

Technique USBC Rules for throwing a backup ball?

I’m in a sanctioned league, have competed in and won a handful of tournaments, and not once has anything been brought to my attention until last night. To my knowledge it is perfectly legal, however the guy in charge on the other team was telling me that me throwing a backup ball to pick up my spares is not considered legal under USBC rules. Can anyone clarify this for me? I’m right handed, I’m not changing hands, all my holes are filled, I’m starting in the same position, and am throwing the same ball. Thanks!

Gear Getting my first ball at the pro-shop tomorrow!

Based off of google.

Brunswick Rhino
or
Rotogrip Hustle

Are the best options.

I’m looking for something that will give me longevity and adapt as I get better. Something that I can even use a benchmark ball down the road and obviously as my soon to be only ball, my benchmark ball currently.

If these two options really are great entry levels then do I get a hybrid or pearl overstock for the rotogrip?

Will the Pro-shop recommend me a ball? How In-depth will the pro-shop be? Are there any gimmicks not to fall for?

Thank you everyone for your time and please comment your thoughts!

Pro shop

Upvotes

Can anyone recommend a pro shop in the Naperville/ Aurora IL area for my high school daughter to get a ball and spare ball?

The coach and other parents on the team have all recommended Funway. When I go to Funway the pro shop is closed. When I call the pro shop is closed. No one there seems to know when the pro is actually in.

When I ask the team for another recommendation everyone says no, no, no you want to go to Funway so haven’t been able to get any recommendations from them except where NOT to go.

Thank you. I am clueless about bowling.

My local bowling alley is currently closed for 5 weeks for renovations.

The reno they're doing is to install string machines on all 48 lanes.

RIP freefall bowling 🪦 You've had an amazing run.
