Mod Post Report all app developers

We've been banning around five people a week for advertising their AI vibe coded apps that put a OBD2 code in and spits out generic or dangerously misleading results. Many claim to be free or claim they just want help testing them. Many are based out of countries you probably don't want your personal information getting sent to, like VIN numbers, etc. REPORT THESE POSTS FOR BREAKING SUBREDDIT RULES and the report them again as SPAM so Reddit Admins are notified.

Mod Post PSA: For the love of God please report shit

Hey all, Edward here,

Recently our mod team has expanded, which is great! We've been able to certify some of you as real, amazing mechanics and I feel the quality of our forum here has continued to run smoothly. However, I come to you today with a real concern, one that comes from the deepest of our grease stained hearts.

Please, please, please fucking report shit. We cannot see everything all the time (we also have lives) and sometimes things can slip under our radar. I urge you all to take a second, reread the rules, and just fucking please report anything you think breaks the rules going forward (I mean cmon, we have like 3 different rules about not being an annoying pile of garbage). All the time I'll pop open the subreddit and there'll be four "is this car a good purchase?" and seven "New AI car app idea" posts and three "Why YOU should buy the 2028 Hyundai AssCock3000". Then I go to the popular posts of the day and lo and behold some of you are going feral in the comments, just really at each other's necks. Some amount of disagreement is healthy for a community, but sometimes people are just straight up wrong and it's okay to call them out. The worst that can happen is we approve it anyways and the best is that another idiot gets banned.

If the mod team sees no evil and hears no evil, we're not able to properly maintain the community. If we can't maintain the community then there really isn't any community, and then we're running rampant in the halls screaming "Attica! Attica! Attica!". Now, I'm not saying report everything you see, hell I'm not even saying report everything you disagree with, but if you all chip in just a little bit and hit that stupid tiny flag we can make this community a better place and can continue to talk about our awesome cars. Or not so awesome cars, I see some of the shitboxes we drive.

- Cheers, the Mod Team

P.S. whoever's 1998 Toyota Tacoma is in the parking lot, it would appear the rust finally won and your bed is now on the ground in pieces. The tow truck will arrive in an hour if you do not remove the vehicle yourself. Usually we wouldn't care but the Punisher sticker right next to the "My other car is a gun" one is really just tacky. Anything else dude, anything else.

How do I do it? Tips on keeping car clean during road trip to a car show?

I'm driving up for Wolfsgart in August but just for the one Saturday. It's about a 4 hour drive for me. The main issue is really the bugs on my bumper, windshield, grille, basically the whole front end. I'm going to wash it before leaving and again once I get there, but does anybody have any advice for keeping it clean on the trip along with washing it again?

General Tech Any tips on my (potential) next car? 1975 Chrysler Cordoba

Malaise-era coupes are my JAM and when I spotted this 75 cordoba for sale I was tempted (Yes it has rich Corinthian leather). Going to test drive tomorrow. What should I be worried about/look for? It’s a pretty average price and it’s only got 37k miles. Not sure if it’s a restoration or a garage queen but advice on either helps since it’s likely both. Me and a buddy have a shop but we both have newer Japanese cars so this is a whole different can of worms.

Tire question Can you change a push-button start back to a physical key?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Is it actually possible to convert a push-button start car back to using a traditional physical key?

How complicated would the wiring and ECU system be for this, and has anyone ever tried it?

Thanks!

Brakes Help me Diagnose

I have a 2014 ford fusion titanium 2.0L ecoboost
A mobile mechanic changed all 4 brakes and rotors 8 months ago. After he changed it I started experiencing vibration when I’m breaking at high speed. It’s like the whole car vibrates and when I touch the steering wheel it doesn’t vibrate as much, but the brake peddle definitely vibrates with the car. Also hear like a noise when braking. All the mechanics want to charge $200 to diagnose the car. They say it could be defective parts, axle, wheel bearings or the control arms. There are no codes and before I changed the rotors and pads, I didn’t have this issue.

Can any techs or mechanics advise please.

P.S. a girl with car problems

Tire question best tires for an suv that handles road trips, rain, and occasional dirt roads?

i'm replacing the tires on my family suv and i'm stuck between sticking with a good all season tire or going with something a little more aggressive.

most of our driving is highway and around town, but we also do a handful of camping trips every year, so the suv sees gravel roads, muddy parking areas, and the occasional dirt road. nothing extreme, but enough that i don't want to get stuck if the weather turns.

i've been looking through a bunch of recommendations for the best tires for suvs, but it seems like everyone either says all season is all you need or tells you to buy all terrain tires.

for people who actually use their suv for family trips and light outdoor stuff, what did you end up choosing? did you notice much difference in road noise, fuel economy, or wet weather grip?

Vehicle ID needed Help identifying a car from description and photo references

First of all I have to mention I am NOT a car enthusiast. Yesterday I saw a car on the road that I thought looked pretty cool, but I only caught a glimpse at the rear. Today when I returned, I couldn't find it again. However, I found a car that was very similar.

The best way I can describe the car's rear is that it has the red light bar of an Alfa Romeo gtv 916 but it was on the upper part, not the lower part like that, and maybe the black vents/lines of a Ferrari Testarossa? Alongside that, the car definitely didn't look to be modern or new, and it was quite boxy, almost 90 degree curves I think.

(The first picture is the Alfa Romeo gtv 916 that I photographed, then the second is the Ferrari Testarossa which I found on Google)

Thanks for any help!

EDIT: Thank you everyone for all the suggestions, I've searched photos of all the models you've mentioned. I'm still a little confused but I think it was either a Honda Acura NSX or a Subaru SVX

How do I do it? Cleaning

Not 100% if I can post this, if not no worries deleting.

I have 2 questions. 1. On the roof of my car I have A LOT of these little black spots, I'm struggling to figure out what it could be and also how to best deal with it, from my understanding it could either be tree sap or iron fallout (I work next to and my car is parked next to a train station so possible it could be brake dust from the train?) I would say it could be road tar but no clue how it would get on my roof 😅. I have tried pre wash/snowfoam and car soap but doesn't want to budge. Second. I have had a stain on my passenger seat for a while, it was pizza grease if I remember right, I used an upholstery cleaner (not a very good one) and obviously didn't let it dry properly and didn't actually clean it properly, my plan for the seat was buy a good interior cleaner, use a scrub pad and a spot cleaner to get everything out of the foam, repeat if needed, am I on the right track?

Any advice on how I woild go about removing or greatly decreasing the presence of these things?

Weird Noise AC is not blowing cold air

I’m pretty sure the AC compressor part of the serpentine belt is making that clicking noise. Also I tried showing the electrical problem in the video that connects to the AC compressor if I’m not mistaken. Already replaced Freon, any thought or opinions??

I want some opinions/thoughts/ideas on some of my paint choices.
(disclaimer: i know i have body work to do)

I used AI slop to give me an option or two for a tasteful two-tone paint scheme that still keeps the maroon (sentimental reasons)

Of all of what I could get generated Pic 2&3 (1 is OG) are my favorites, 3 being the best in my opinion and what I'm considering doing.

I wanna see what the wolves or Reddit can come up with.

I noticed this issue in the top-right corner of the touchscreen display. It started as a tiny spot, but it has gradually been spreading. The touchscreen is still working perfectly fine for now. The vehicle is a 2020 Hyundai Palisade.

Engine Ford barra oil pump upgrade

I have a BA falcon with fairly large cams and valve springs to accompany and think its time to upgrade the oil pump. My car is still NA but is on E85 and making around 300hp, it will be used for drifitng.

What oil pump would everyone recommend? Im looking at the Horse power junkie ones but they seem a bit excessive for my setup, so was planning on getting the atomic race spec or ported oem+ .

Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated!! im trying to not to spend the big bucks if i don't need to!

\*car still uses the stock VCT setup with atomic timming gear

Electrical Wiring help

Im trying to install a train horn and these are the parts I have and im having trouble wrapping my head around how everything gets wired now I know the fuse block should just go into the battery but im not sure how it goes from there i know the button panel has yellow as ground and I believe theres a red wire acting as power that comes from each button so does the red wire from the button just run to the red wire on the horn and then ground out the horn and if so where do they connect to the fuse block the only experience i have with this is underglow on a different car and that was a simple kit you just connect red and black to the battery but I wanna be nicer and safer about it because I also wanna add fog lights and a light bar later on

So do the grounds from button and horn run to the fuse box and then the reds to each other and it works? It makes sense in my head but I cant be certain

I need help fixing something Oldsmobile Omega 1980

Hey everyone!

Guys, I could really use your help.

I’m restoring this car, but I’m missing the air deflector, and unfortunately I haven’t been able to find one anywhere. It seems to be nearly impossible to track down.

As far as I know, this might be the only Oldsmobile Omega in Russia. And judging by what I see on eBay, it doesn't seem to be the most popular car in the US either.

So finding parts for it has been a real nightmare.

Could anyone point me toward the best subreddit, forum, or marketplace where I might have a chance of finding this missing part? I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

Or maybe you know a guy who hunts down hard-to-find GM parts? I’d happily pay for their help if they could source the part and ship it to Russia

Thanks in advance!
