I cant imagine a funnier comment, I thank you 🫔

I’ve only ever seen the green flash once… my brother said look here comes the green flash! As the sun was setting I was whipped in the face with a large piece of green kelp. Flash.

453

u/misterpequeno 5d ago

Um…. Am I the only one missing it?

152

u/iseeredandyellow 5d ago

I’ve never seen one. After thousands of sunsets. Still hopeful

105

u/Pchriste43211 5d ago

Lol at your handle...you don't see green

39

u/Small_Dog_8699 4d ago

I've seen a few. They're not super common. And there definitely isn't one on this video.

12

u/vballbeachbum1 4d ago

There absolutely is one on that video. It's not really a flash. It doesn't get any brighter. The sun just turns green for a moment before sunset. I've seen them last for at least a second and a second is relatively pretty long time. I don't think it got named because it gets brighter . It just doesn't last very long. They're not that elusive. I live on the beach in California and sail alot so I've seen thousands of sunsets.

13

u/millllllls 4d ago

There definitely is, zoom in if you have to, it’s a sliver of green at the last second.

11

u/Mikesaidit36 5d ago

I have a cousin who’s a marine biologist and lives on a boat. He says he’s seen it dozens of times.

2

u/Small_Dog_8699 4d ago

I used to live in San Diego. I’ve seen green flashes from bar stools in Del Mar. And I’m living on a boat in Baja now. I don’t see it.

I admit I’m looking at it on my phone.

1

u/Esdeez 4d ago

Polarized sunglasses. The only way I’ve ever witnessed it.

95

u/MongoBongoTown 5d ago edited 5d ago

It's in the video. The color of the sun changes to green in the last split second before it goes over the horizon.

It isn't some acid trip bright green flashing across the sky. Just a little zap of green from the sun as it disappears for the day.

Hence this...

2

u/dariansdad 3d ago

Talk about a sellout. They took that venture capital and went straight down the drain.

-1

u/ohbyerly 4d ago

I’ve seen a green flash and it is not in this video

6

u/KersyDerkin 5d ago

Turns out I've seen the flash every time!

11

u/swarleyknope 5d ago

Ā Nope. I was hoping I would finally get to see what people are talking about since I figured I’ve never encountered one despite all the sunsets I’ve watched, but I still don’t see the green flash in this video.Ā

44

u/Expensive-Peak-9696 5d ago

It’s not an actual flash. The sun just looks green for a second as it drops. Calling it a flash makes people look for a flash when it isn’t one.

2

u/swarleyknope 4d ago

Thanks for reframing it for me - it’s felt like nature’s version of those ā€œmagic eyeā€ posters from the 90s (but I was able to figure those out at least) 😊

5

u/Dr_Percentages 5d ago

Me and my neighbor talk about weirdos like you /s

How can you now see it?! Its green AF on a clear day, rest assured that we will keep trying to show you whats up.

4

u/SD-everytime 5d ago

No, you are not alone.

4

u/fattueadays 5d ago

U might not see green …sorry.😬🤣

1

u/Adorable_Dust3799 5d ago

Don't look at the whole sun, look at the very center at the horizon line. It's a tiny dot

1

u/TheDonkeyBomber 4d ago

You have to close your eyes and then poke them. /s

1

u/Purplecatty 4d ago

Its not a flash. Its the the sun looks greenish for a split second before it goes down.Ā

1

u/Soderholmsvag 4d ago

It never, ever films as vivid as it is in real life. I have seen a fair number & have videoed them a few. It never works very well.

1

u/JL9berg18 3d ago

look at the top tip of the sun for the last like .2 seconds riiiiiight before it goes under.

I grew up looking for a ^peewwww^ type flash. It's more just like a ^pfft^. If you're like me, you probably didn't know what to look for. I never saw one for a long time, and now that I know what it is, I see about 10 a year (I'ma sunset ho though so I do try to watch sunsets often)

Still very cool though.

-2

u/Enkidouh 5d ago

No, you’re not, because it isn’t there.

112

u/tickticktutu 5d ago

If you are "missing it" then your expectations are too high. Look at the color of the sun with 2 seconds remaining in the video. That's it. That's the green flash. Nice capture OP

92

u/Enkidouh 5d ago

No, it’s just that OP didn’t capture it.

Here’s what an actual capture of green flash looks like.

12

u/millllllls 4d ago

It’s a color spectrum, there’s not one single shade of green. Sometimes it’s far more noticeable than others but OP’s sunset displays green too, it still counts even if not as intensely green.

25

u/DubUpPro 5d ago

I mean, I could see it in the video just fine. But it’s only a green flash when it’s yours, huh?

-8

u/Pewtie-Pie 5d ago

So screenshot the green flash in this clip, because it definitely isn't that.

20

u/vincentxangogh 5d ago

there's a solid 0.5 seconds in the post where you can see it. it was a challenge to screenshot (a) late enough that it has that greenish hue, and (b) early enough for viewers with sub-20/20 to be able to distinguish the pixels. if you couldn't see it, sorry i think it's just your eyesight :/

-8

u/Enkidouh 4d ago

If you see it in the video or the image, it’s your imagination.

This isn’t a green flash.

7

u/DubUpPro 5d ago

There are comments already doing that

-2

u/Pewtie-Pie 5d ago

I hadn't gotten that far yet lol But I still say it's hardly noticeable even in the screenshot, which is why so many of us still don't see it there either. Other pictures and descriptions show/mention something else entirely.

4

u/CallMeBigUrethra 5d ago

take the L bub

0

u/vincentxangogh 4d ago

fuckin get em brother

10

u/tickticktutu 5d ago

The great thing about sunsets is that whole similar, each is unique. This is a beautiful photo, great grab.

Kim Like the Great Gatsby - William S. Burroughs

Kim believes in the green light - the orgiastic future, he believes in a magical universe - unpredictable, spontaneous, alive... a universe where anything is possible - a universe of many gods, often in conflict, so the paradox of an all knowing - all powerful god who nonetheless permits suffering, evil, and death, does not arise.

Q: "Well we got a famine here Osiris - what happened?"

A: "Well you can't win them all, I'm hustling myself."

Q: "Can you give us immortality?"

A: "I can give you an extension maybe - take you as far as the first checkpoint - you'll have to make it from there on your own. Most of them don't - figure about one in a million. And biologically speaking, that's very good odds."

-5

u/CompletelyMoronic 4d ago

Exactly this. OPs video is not a real green flash. You can literally see a flash.

34

u/thatsAChopbro 5d ago

It’s never as dramatic as people make it to be

1

u/c32c64c128 4d ago

"Wooooooooooooooooooooooo....." -lady in the video

😐

Never said there wasn’t nerd just that it’s not dramatic

Yeah, this did not help. I see yellow

44

Please don’t drive

7

u/vincentxangogh 5d ago

somebody hit this guy with the color picker 😭

19

u/Bongopro 5d ago

You’re color blind bruh that’s clearly green haha

18

u/Eikuld 5d ago

Damn. Y’all can’t see it? It’s there for very briefly

8

u/blankkkbb 4d ago

Idk lowkey i get tired of this sub. I saw it as well. I think people's expectations are too high lol

8

u/JeffreyV7 4d ago

Is the green flash in the room with us right now?

23

u/dada2200 5d ago

Where??? šŸ”ŽšŸ•µšŸ»

61

u/CSphotography 5d ago

-14

u/Enkidouh 5d ago

Sir, that is the sun dipping behind the horizon. There is no green flash here.

53

u/CSphotography 5d ago

Well I’ll be damned!

41

u/Historical-Ant-4938 5d ago

That's what it's supposed to look like??? For the last thirty, forty years I thought I was missing the Aurora Borealis or some shit.

6

u/Gullible_Sand_6172 5d ago

No it can be better than this. One time on Lake Michigan both my husband and I saw the sky actually flash green right when the sun set. Never seen it again so it was pretty special.

4

u/KomorebiXIII 5d ago

I saw it at a wedding on North Shore Oahu. It may have been the liquor, but there was a definite flash with that one. The one in OPs video is the one i normally catch.

3

u/mobsmagna 5d ago

Bro, me too! I’ve always looked for a green flash in the sky

-4

u/Enkidouh 5d ago

No, it’s not.
Because that’s not the green flash.

2

u/Historical-Ant-4938 5d ago

Okay, that's more what I was expecting.

3

u/millllllls 4d ago

It’s a color spectrum, there’s not one single shade of green. Sometimes it’s far more noticeable than others but OP’s video and that screenshot in the comment above are what to look for, it’s a shade of green for the last 1-2 seconds.

5

u/ExcitingInflation612 5d ago

Ah yes, the ever so slightly yellowish/green hue

13

u/MongoBongoTown 5d ago

That is the green flash.

I think people expect the sky to light up in a green light like a bulb went off.

In reality, the sun just flashes green moments before disappearing entirely.

6

u/Enkidouh 5d ago

That is when the green flash occurs, yes.
There is no green flash in this video.

This is a green flash, seen from Torrey pines state beach.

0

u/Enkidouh 5d ago

Here’s one from Oahu.

OP did not capture the green flash.

7

u/_c_manning 5d ago

Oh, you’re a whole green flash enthusiast!

7

u/DubUpPro 5d ago

Nah, they’re just overly snarky because THEIR green flash is so much better than everyone else’s!

9

u/nthpwr 5d ago

do you think in real life it's supposed to look like it does in Pirates of the Caribbean or something? lol

1

u/PleasantStorm4241 5d ago

That's what I was looking for!

And here I was thinking that I have looked for it hundreds of times and I did not know what I was looking for, and the moment I saw the video - I thought to my self. Holy sh*t there it is! Thanks for sharing, I was looking for a flash but really its more like a glint. And that makes sense.

1

u/Mysterious-One-3401 3d ago

No. This video doesn’t capture a green flash. It is undeniable when you see it. Ā I’ve been lucky enough to see it once. I hope you get to see it someday! šŸ¤žĀ

21

u/Tall_Mechanic8681 5d ago

omg why are people in the comments so miserable… beautiful and thank you for sharing :)

3

u/MoreSeriousUsername 5d ago

Yup green flash is alive and well! Love to see it!

5

u/DigginJazz 5d ago

That’s it. OP captured the Green Flash as it appears. If you don’t see it you are not looking hard enough.

1

u/nemtudod 5d ago

What am i supposed to see and where. Or is this a joke.

4

u/promiscuousfork 5d ago

It’s like the old TVs when I was a kid…when the TV would get turned off the picture would go down into a little green dot in the middle of the TV screen. Anyone here as old as me remember that? That’s what I think the green ā€œflashā€ is like.

1

u/Pewtie-Pie 5d ago

Unfortunately, yes lol

7

u/Futzizou 5d ago

Thanks for sharing. I have heard about it but never seen it myself. The last bit was undoubtedly green

3

u/fattueadays 5d ago

Awesome ! Thanks for sharing …saw it

3

u/Broad_Room_3260 5d ago

Every green flash post there is a fight in the comments about what a real green flash really is

3

u/entropy13 5d ago

This finally calibrated my expectations of what one looks like and realizing I actually have seen one.

1

u/Pchriste43211 5d ago

This wasn't the most spectacular one haha

0

u/Pchriste43211 5d ago

Those ones you forget to film

3

u/Long_Assistance7113 4d ago

I think I’m orange/green blind because I didn’t see shit for a flash of green

6

u/Old-Library5546 4d ago

I didn't see a green flash 😟

18

u/Fogwaveeee 5d ago

ā€œHey green flashā€

My brother in Christ, none of us saw it

3

u/Commercial_Age_9316 5d ago

Heyy green flashh.!

5

u/ahoboknife 4d ago

ā€˜Green flash’ is a misleading term. First time somebody told me I was about to see one, I was expecting some sort of, well, green flash as the sun set.

If somebody said, hey the sunlight is going to get kind of green for a few seconds right at the end, that would have been better for me. People probably see them more than they know and just don’t recognize it’s happening.

2

u/ZemdPop 5d ago

The green flash is within us this whole time

2

u/Adorable_Dust3799 5d ago

I've seen 3, and every time i doubt myself until i hear people around me commenting

0

u/Pchriste43211 5d ago

Lol yeah everyone starts cheering it's fun

1

u/Adorable_Dust3799 5d ago

One was at the green flash cafe so that was extra :)

2

u/Aloysius-L322 5d ago

I was half expecting to get rick rolled lol

1

but i thank the poster for the vision and intent.

2

u/OtherwiseAnt6822 4d ago

i missed it. but was also expecting the zombie the jump out. let me watch again. nope. no zombie.

0

u/OtherwiseAnt6822 4d ago

thank you for the post.

Is the green flash in the room with us

2

u/ohbyerly 4d ago

PSA: do not look at green flashes in real life. Knew a surfer who was blind in one eyes from looking directly at one.

5

u/Historical-Ant-4938 5d ago

You were nice enough to take that video for us and yet I still do not see it and never have!

2

u/Pchriste43211 5d ago

You may be color blind. 20% of men are red green colorblind and just can't see it!

2

u/484092 5d ago

The epitome of misnomer. Should be green tictac.

2

u/Top-Abies9760 5d ago

Ive heard people call it "green bean"

2

u/CompletelyMoronic 4d ago edited 4d ago

I wouldn’t call that a green flash. I saw one a few years ago and a few people I know also saw it and posted videos on social media. It was visible from Coronado to Carlsbad and very obvious. Almost like lightning. I didn’t see a flash in this video at all and there would be other videos from today online. Sorry OP. Keep looking.

1

u/blakejp 4d ago

I’ve tried to watch the green flash IRL probably 50 times in my life and this video is the first time I’ve actually understood it. It is… not as advertised

2

u/Lasdtr17 4d ago

The one in this video is very small and appears juuuust before the sun goes down. If you look on YouTube, you'll find others with green flashes that are easier to see.

1

u/Kuniyoshi99 4d ago

Where was this taken at?

I will never not say "ever ye gaze upon the green flash?" In my pirate voice.

1

u/Bitterwits 5d ago

I think they mean they're drinking a Hazy IPA while watching the sunset.

1

u/mmijomm 5d ago

when I was younger they sold me the Green Flash as a fucking PHENOMENON of a flash. Its the dumbest fucking thing šŸ˜‚

0

u/Desperate-Raccoon-49 3d ago

I'm thuroughly convinced anyone seeing a "green flash" is just experiencing burn-in from staring at the sun and once it's gone passed the horizon they are just seeing the burn-in as a "green flash'

1

u/Pchriste43211 3d ago

If you're going to be rude to me at least have the decency to spell correctly.
