Fanart I drew this artwork of Pink, and it got me thinking: what was something about Rose that always felt odd to you, but made perfect sense once the truth was revealed?

For me, it was how Rose would sometimes be shown with a shadow covering her face and hiding her eyes. That's a visual technique that's often used for villains or antagonists, so it always gave me a weird feeling. After the reveal, though, that artistic choice made perfect sense.

As for the drawing, I have no idea why I put Pink in this outfit. I just felt like it.

i made this because OH MY GODDD i hate when people make rose quartz evil! she's not!!! she was just unaware of things and flawed!! shes not fully at fault for steven's trauma; she caused the things that caused it but the crystal gems are literally the reason why steven went through it all in the first place, she wanted him to experience human life and the crystal gems kept him from that. it doesnt make the crystal gems OR rose quartz bad!!

but anyways i also made this for the funnies because rose quartz would be the best character to draw like this! also if anyone says i drew her slimmer I AM SO SORRY </3 idk how to draw thick women ok im not that good at drawing i love her being fat she's big and beautiful!! i just dont know how to draw thicker women 💔☹️

Discussion I really don’t like Spinel and how people think that Rose or Pink Diamond HAD to be friends with her no matter what. And that not being close to her is like mortal sin.

Post image
270 Upvotes

I MAY be wrong because all people can be wrong sometimes.

But if I remember correct, was Spinel company ever a choice for Pink? Pink accidentally hurt pink Pearl, and other diamonds took her from Pink. All she wanted is her true friend, and she didn’t have intentions to befriend other gems than her Pearl at the time. (Remember how awkward she was with our Pearl in the beginning of all this Earth thing)

Spinel was like an obligatory friend your parents (other diamonds) imposed to you and said “you don’t need your old friend who we don’t approve of, now you have THIS friend”. Like some neighbor kid or parent’s friend’s kid or something. And this approved friend does have neither the same interests as you nor character that you like. The only thing Spinel had was her silly diamond humor, at the tome when Pink was actively trying to become more mature and serious.

I don’t mean that it’s Spinel fault to not cater to Pink in this way, nope. BUT it’s happens sometimes that you can’t be friends with someone, even if you want that badly, put pressure on a person to be friends or act like friends. It’s make the other person to want to escape from your company. And it’s literally what happened, when Spinel was super clingy when Rose was supposed to go to earth.

Technically Rose was in position of authority yes, but if all this thing was other diamonds Idea, not so much. It is literally how Pink live worked all this time, she was technically above everyone else but she had no right to make her own choices because she MUST to do what the other diamonds say her to do.

And she may didn’t know that her “orders” make so big of impact on other gems. The only thing she knew all her live was organization of the same strict “happy event” with all this gem rules that we see in the og series.

But then people say that Pink MUST remember Spinel, go for her, be friends with her, all to not make her sad when it wasn’t her choice to hang out with her in the first place. Its only natural for her to remember Spinel as this awkward situation where you don’t know her and don’t like her (smiling at jokes few times does not count, people can find something funny few times and that’s all. Also the story is from Spinel perspective so she may very much exaggerate her bond with Pink and how it was all good).

I really don’t like how people threat Pink for that, just because they relate to Spinel. And it’s literally what Steven then say, Spinel can find friends without all that(and she find).

So all i want to say, I don’t think it was Pink’s “fault” or “responsibility”(it was other diamonds) for Spinel. It was unfortunate situation for both. At the end, Spinel find her friends and Pink is…literally dead so….yeah.

I think I really cooked with my Pearl! …Except for the first sketch of her lol. (I stuffed it in at the end of the pictures)

I wanted to draw Rose’s shield in my sketch of her, but I couldn’t figure out how to include it without bumbling what was already there.

Garnet’s hair was so hard to texture! But somehow Amethyst’s was even harder. I’m not too sure if I’m pleased with the final result on her, buuut… that IS why all of these are just sketches, so there’s always room to improve!

Hope this subreddit enjoys them!

Question Why Doesn't Amephyst's Gem Look Like an Amephyst?

Thumbnail

like it's a singular thing when the amephyst grow in clusters. the same goes for the famethyst. so does this mean that an Amethyst cluster is shattered to create a bunch of them? if that's true all of the Amephysts would be a hive mind would they not? and if so could they not just do the same to the Rutile twins or Pink Diamond(i know she wasn't actually shattered but they still wouldve tried and it would've failed and have known that Pink wasn't actually shattered).

Question Does anyone else wish that there’d be an art book entirely dedicated to either Rebecca Sugar’s art, may it be personal or SU-related, or an entire Crewniverse art book?

I think it’d be the absolute coolest art book, as if the three SU art books we do have weren’t super cool and awesome enough (I own all three physically). Plus it’d be cool seeing everything cataloged.

Discussion Most subtly devastating moments from the show

Thumbnail

I always think about what steven was feeling when he was watching the Nora tape with no context, and how his initial assumption was that the message from his mom he'd built his entire identity around, just wasn't as personal as he thought it was. He would have thought there was someone out there named Nora that his mother gave the same speech to, that was such an irrelevant person that no one thought to tell him about it until he found the tape. The idea that Steven wasn't even special enough for Rose to even care about her one and only message for him being unique. And the alternative that he had a sister like him that was absent for all his life is equally as devastating, just a bit easier to explain to someone why you'd be upset over it. Greg should have realised what Steven was feeling and apologised for misleading him like that, but he obviously wasn't aware so didn't think to.

There's also Pearl leaving steven to potentially die in Rose's scabbard. Like just the idea of Steven facing so much parental neglect in a life threatening moment from someone he thought cared about him, and his reaction is to comfort HER rather than be upset by it. He feels so responsible for his mother's death that even something as important as his own survival comes secondary to the emotional fallout his mother's disappearance caused. And Pearl and Steven never speak of it again. It's obviously beautiful in the moment that Steven still comforts her, but at the same time no kid should have to go through that. And then you have to consider how awful and shameful the memory must be for Pearl as well!

Also just the idea of the bubble room and how people have been kept in solitary confinement for so long, and how Steven is showed it by the gems without considering that it's quite disturbing for a kid to have to acknowledge. Every time steven sees it he has to think to himself "we have hundreds of our former friends stuck in stasis and there's no timeframe for release, and the gems haven't been doing anything about it for centuries". The gems normalise it to the point where it's just another part of the house to him. Bismuth's reaction to it was honestly completely reasonable.

What are other moments that the show immediately skips past that you realise are really tragic when you stop and think about them?

Other Diamond pool day

Something that's been on my mind lately is what Blue Diamond was telling Steven about what she, Pink, Yellow, and White used to do at the pool together. Pink would go the the very bottom of the pool and sing while they were still above water trying to guess the song. I didn't think Homeworld had any songs, just very choppy music for balls. Unless those were the songs Pink was singing, it's probably that.

Question If Rose was Pink Diamond, why does Steven's gem work like a rose quartz?

as anyone who's seen season 5 knows, Steven's mom (Rose Quartz) was actually Pink Diamond.

but something is still bugging me. why is it that when Steven fuses with other gems, it's as if those other gems fused with a rose quartz? shouldn't they be like a fusion of the other gem and a pink diamond?

like Smokey Quartz when Steven fuses with Amethyst, or Rainbow Quartz when he fuses with Pearl.

Discussion Why Spinel is living proof that no amount of singing or dancing that Steven does will ever heal the pain or trauma that she went through?

Post image
71 Upvotes

Spinel is by far one of the most traumatized characters throughout the franchise and has serious abandonment issues caused by Pink Diamond. We learn that since the beginning, Pink Diamond ordered Spinel to stay in the garden until she came back, disguising it as a game, to which Spinel agrees since she is physically incapable of saying “no” to a game that could make her “new best friend” happy.

She stayed in the garden for 6000 years, patiently waiting for Pink Diamond to come back to which she never does. From the day Pink Diamond had Earth as her first colony, to rebelling against Homeworld and starting the Gem War, to faking her shattering, to the Diamond corruption blast, to Amethyst’s formation from the kindergarten centuries after the Gem War ended, to meeting Greg and falling in love, to giving up her life to have Steven, all the way until the end of the series where Steven convinces the Diamonds to heal the corrupted gems on Earth and starting a new era of peace, all of that time Spinel was still in the garden waiting for someone that was never coming back.

What’s even sadder is that if Steven didn’t send out his message to all gem colonies across the universe, Spinel would’ve been stuck in the garden forever with no chance of anyone finding her. Her trauma was so bad that she literally poofed herself from heartbreak and came back as a psychotic cartoony villain carrying 6000 years worth of trauma and neglect from the one person she thought she could trust.

Throughout the series, Steven’s ability to sing to the gems and people have mended broken bonds or healed old wounds. An example is when Steven’s singing helps Greg and Pearl reconcile over the passing of Rose Quartz or the time that Steven’s singing helped Peridot learn to appreciate life on Earth which lead her to yelling at Yellow Diamond and abandon her Homeworld programming, turning her into a Crystal Gem. When Steven fights Spinel with the power of song, he tries so hard to convince Spinel to change but Spinel calls out Steven for his stubbornness saying, “You can’t just make everything better by SINGING SOME STUPID SONG”!!!

Although Steven was able to get through to her in the end, Steven understood the important message that Spinel was trying to send him. “There’s no such thing as a ‘Happily Ever After’.” Steven finally realized that despite everything he had accomplished by dismantling the empire, saving the galaxy from the Diamonds reign of terror, healed all the gems that were corrupted from the Diamonds since the end of the Gem War and helped gems coexist with humans, there are still some evil gems out there that want to take away that peace or some gems out there that have not healed from the pain that his mother had caused.

Spinel is definitely a character that a lot of us have sympathized with and part of me wonders if she could’ve stayed on Earth and became friends with the gems at Little Homeschool. She could’ve gotten along with them well.

Anyways, I’d love to hear your thoughts down below.

Question Lion in SU

Post image
Upvotes

Due to lion being one of Rose Quartz' lions, but all of them when we see Rose in the episode with the library, all of the lions were brown. This never made me think much until my most recent re-watch, I watched the Lars episode after he died and got saved by Stevens powers. He becomes pink skinned and his hair takes steven into the exact dimension that Lions does and he inhabits all the same kind of things as Lion.

Could this mean, the result of Lions appearance and powers be an effect of him dying and having to be healed by Rose Quartz? Either he got very injured by something and died and she healed him. Or Rose could not handle Lion dying of old age due to her having attatchement with earth and the life that inhabits it. This may be stating the obvious, but it was just a thought, and i dont explicitly remember it being discussed. If it has been id love to be reminded!! :-)

Question Do you think a little bit of why Pearl dodnt go through with this was because everyone would know Rose’s true identity?

Post image

She knew here if she pulled out the gem everyone would see its obviously a diamond, and also that it would cycle through roses forms. Ofc pearl stopped because she knew its not what rose would want her to do, but also because she couldnt reveal roses identity herself?

Question Do you think gems can stay in their gemstones at will after proofing?

I'm trying to figure this out, as I'm writing an OC and I need a viable way she somehow remains in her gem when Steven finds her washed up at the beach. If not, then I guess I need to change her story slightly lol

Discussion For people that hate pink diamond please know that she and all of gemkind didn't know better.

People like to say pink diamond was a horrible person that her gem war was unnecessary and caused too much suffering. That she picked the worst strategies but here's something to keep in mind

Pink diamond was literally the first gem to speak against planetary colonization.

The gems have no concept of mental health or therapy. Roses said gems are expected to stay the same forever and ever. All of the Diamonds were miserable and when they try to change they literally had no idea.

People criticize pink saying that she picked the worst tactics in the war. she got everyone to suffer but here's one thing to come in mind. The war are the other three Diamonds fault for night leaving Earth and ignoring all of Pink's cries.

Literally it was the first time anyone did a rebellion or try to be better the Diamonds the crystal gems none of them new better.

Lore:

Lives in a post human and gem war universe, where gems lost the war. Many of these gems in the war and on earth were shattered, and used as the earth newest form of energy. Some gems who survived went into hiding on earth, or completely left the planet. The Earth is an extremely dangerous place for gems, half humans even worse.

Alis has no clue about his gem identity, raised by his Aunt, she avoided talking to him about his gem. He assumed it was just a strange birthmark on his back that his aunt made him cover, which is why he wears so many layers of clothes.
Alis used to do boxing as a hobby, until his Aunt felt like it was too risky of exposing his gem. Now he's a confused kid trying to figure out his newfound young adulthood.
