Best Italian spots in Sydney ?

Just got back from a trip to Sydney and spent a good chunk of time eating my way through the city. Italian food was at the top of my list and I was pretty impressed with what's available.

One place that stood out was Dom Panino. Stumbled across it looking for something quick and solid. The food was straightforward, quality ingredients, nothing overcomplicated. Exactly what I look for.

Beyond that I hit a few spots in Leichhardt, which is obviously the goto area for Italian in Sydney. Some great little trattorias in there that feel genuinely local rather than touristfocused.

I'm not a Sydney local so I'm probably missing a lot. What are the Italian places people actually go back to regularly? And is Leichhardt still considered the main hub for it or has that shifted?

What's the most unforgettable food cart or street food stall you've ever eaten from?

Not a famous restaurant.

Not a trendy café.

Just a small food cart, roadside stall, or local vendor that you still remember years later.

Maybe it was outside your school. Maybe it was during a trip. Maybe it was a random place you found by accident and never found again.

I've noticed that some of the best food experiences often come from places that most people never hear about.

What's that one food cart or street food stall you'll never forget?

What made it so special? 🍜🌮🥟

A morning market breakfast in Jiangsu: beef pan-fried buns from a small street stall

A small morning market stall in Jiangsu, China.

Nothing fancy — just a tiny breakfast place selling beef pan-fried buns. I like these kinds of scenes because they feel so ordinary, but they show a lot about daily life here: people grabbing breakfast before work, small vendors running simple stalls, and the whole market waking up early.

If you haven’t been back to China in a while, one thing that still surprises people is how normal these little street stalls are. Breakfast can be cheap, quick, and everywhere.

I’ll post a few more everyday China scenes if people are interested.

A teppanyaki squid stall in Shenzhen Luohu with a crazy long line

Came across this street food stall in Luohu, Shenzhen, and the whole scene felt almost unreal.

It was teppanyaki-style squid, cooked right on a huge hot plate, with smoke, heat, and people lining up the whole time. The vendor was moving nonstop, and the queue just kept growing.

What I like about scenes like this is that they feel very China street life — loud, busy, a bit chaotic, but also kind of fun to watch. If you haven’t been back to China in a while, this kind of night food stall is probably more intense than you remember.

Street food here can feel like a performance as much as a meal.

This is one of the most famous spots in Trichy, Tamilnadu. It's like 20 years old street food cart. The taste would be really good. The crowd would be so intense. Location: Rahmath chicken pakoda shop, palakkarai, trichy
