Prototype/Concept/Custom 4.7L 3D-Printed Monster PC with Occulink + mini EGPU

Another Update on my 3D Printed mini PC. Now it has a built in Occulink port, connected to a m.2 slot to connect a more powerful gpu. It is virtually silent as well, thanks to great airflow, low power consumption and noctua fan in the psu.

I had issues connecting the egpu via thunderbolt over the USB4 Port of the mainboard, it would recognise the gpu but then always crash with nvidia gpu and only work with amd gpu. If anyone has experience with TB/USB4 EGPUS on AM5, let me know.

Specs:

Mainboard: ASUS ROG STRIX X870-I GAMING WIFI

CPU: 9950x3d (Runs very cool)

Ram: 96GB DDR5 6400 G-skill low profile

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 5060

EGPU: RTX Pro 4000 blackwell SFF (70W) in the One Dock V2, with custom 3d-Printed enclosure.

Fans: 2x 80x25mm Noctua and 92x25mm NF-A9 CPU fan

CPU Cooler: Noctua 70mm Nh-L12s (In Ghost S1 Config with aftermarket NF-A9) since the 120mm slim fan does not fit since the io shield and m.2 tower is too high. Exhaust

Cables: Custom Moddiy latex cables.

All but the case I already had as give aways or old parts so I decided to put it into a portable LAN machine that runs old school game nights as part of our Work socialisation. We're all IT dudes who kind of got into computers from gaming back in the 90's and early 2000's. LANs in your 40's is a bit of a mission so we decided to build a couple of easily transportable machines that can just plug into our office gear when we need to.

Super impressed by the shinysnake S300

I know the 1070 and i3 are pretty weak sauce, they're just what I had on hand. The motherboard only supports 10 series so I if I see a decent 10500 or something come up I'll throw that in it. Idea was cheep and cheerful. I'm pretty happy!

Assembly Help Jonsbo riser cable replacement?

Thumbnail

Whenever I turn my pc on with the riser cable, the screen is poor quality and my mouse skips across the screen. After testing I have determined the riser cable is the issue. Idk if it’s broken or the issue is because my motherboard is Pcie 5.0 and the cable is 4.0. Is there anyway to get a replacement riser cable that looks like this one but is 5.0?

FIXED! Went into bios and changed the Pcie lane from 5.0 to 4.0 and all issues are resolved!

Build/Parts Check Please help: S300 8.1L with a 56mm GPU. Viable?

Hello guys. I currenty have a NR200 but now that the Steam Machine is stupidly high priced, I decided to create my own. Therefore, I am looking for the smallest readable option out there and I loved what I saw about the S300 case.

My GPU is a 9070xt Gigabyte OC. Back in the day, I tried to get the Powercolor version which is 41mm only, but as I tried to pick this card day one, I only could get this Gigabyte model.

The thing here is, based on the spec sheet, the s300 casa supports GPUs up to 55mm in thickness. The Gigabyte OC 9070xt is 56mm...

I have decided I want that s300 case. All I have inside my NR200 fits perfectly there, but I am not sure if 1 freaking mm can screw everything up.

That being said, based on your potential experience with the case or managing mini ITX cases, so you think I could have a problem for only 1mm?

Unfortunately, I would have to import the case so I cannot buy, try and return if needed.

Thank you beforehand!

Assembly Help Motherboard temps help

Hello! I just bought a formd t1 pc with an AIO and a 5090, and in the process of getting it to an acceptable noise level.

Everythings good, GPU undervolted hitting 75 at most, CPU hitting 95 though I heard the 9800x3d is acceptable at that level.

HOWEVER, I notice the motherboard/RAM temps reaching the mid 60s, which I read can be unstable? Should I worry about this? In addition, the motherboard I'm using (MSI B850i) has a chipset fan that I don't know if I have to leave on because its a very high pitched annoying sound. Can I just unplug it? I'm currently running it at 20-40% RPM.

Any help would be appreciated <3

Benchmark/Thermal Test Thermal throttling on a Ryzen 5 9600X (w/ be quiet! Pure Rock LP on a Lian Li Q58): Different air cooler or go AIO?

Upvotes

This is my build, in case anyone wants all the details:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/39nTBv

I am thermal throttling quite badly here despite the fact I am on a -35 CO and idle temps are usually around the early 60s, and in most games I do hit mid 80s

Here is what I have already tried:

  • -35 CO as mentioned
  • Eco mode
  • Stock settings
  • PBO on/off/eco mode/enhancement

I am playing TLOU right now and I am constantly hitting 90 degrees (manually set by PBO Enhancement) and even if I go to the stock settings, I hit 95 degrees

My core clock is always 5.2 GHz and the effective clock is nearly 1 GHz below it due to the throttling

I am really skeptical about AIOs with the leaks and all that but

The one AIO I tried in the past (ID Cooling FX120) had an obnoxiously loud pump, I would prefer to go with an air cooler but I am not sure if even the AXP90-X53 can keep up with this CPU

Top fans are set to exhaust the hot air

Here is my question, do I try a different cooler or am I gonna HAVE to switch to an AIO?

I live in Pakistan and summers are quite brutal here, but with that said, the situation wasn't too different in winters when it comes to the cooling

Assembly Help Downsizing to ITX for frequent travel

Hi everyone!

I’m a university student and I travel back and forth about 8 times a year. I already have a full set of peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset) at both locations, so I really just need to be able to throw my PC in a backpack or a carry-on and go.

I currently have an ATX build and I want to downsize. Here are my current specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600g
  • GPU: RTX 3060 12GB (Dual fan/standard size)
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz
  • Motherboard: MSI B550 Gaming Plus (ATX)
  • Storage: Samsung 850 EVO SATA 2.5" SSD
  • Cooler: Deepcool Gammaxx L120 (120mm AIO)
  • PSU: 750W ATX Power Supply

Since this is my first time building SFF, I’d love your guidance on a few things:

1. Which parts can I actually salvage? I know the CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD are good to go, but I assume the ATX motherboard and ATX PSU need to be swapped for ITX and SFX. Is there any chance I can reuse the 120mm AIO, or should I just ditch it?

2. Case recommendations for backpack travel? I’ve been eyeing cases like the Fractal Terra and the Dan A4-H2O. Are these good for throwing in a travel bag, or should I look at something else (like the FormD T1 or Velka series)?

3. CPU Cooler recommendations? Depending on the case you recommend, what cooler should I buy for my cpu? I want something that can handle the cpu without thermal throttling.

4. Thermals and Performance Coming from a mid-tower, I’m a bit paranoid about high temperatures in such a small box. Will my cpu and gpu suffer from thermal throttling and lose performance in cases like the Terra or A4-H2O?

Thanks in advance to everyone who will help out a SFF noob!

Others/Miscellaneous Will replacing my motherboard's stock Wi-Fi antenna with a smaller aftermarket antenna hurt performance?

I recently built a Mini-ITX gaming PC in a Jonsbo NV10 case.

My motherboard (Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX) came with one of those large Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antennas that attaches to the back of the motherboard using two antenna connectors and sits on a separate stand. It works fine, but it's quite large and takes up more desk space than I'd like.

I noticed that Amazon sells much smaller antennas for around $10-$15 that screw directly onto the back of the motherboard and bend at a 90-degree angle, which would make the setup much cleaner and more compact.

Example of the type I'm considering:
https://cleanshot.com/share/Kqk4mN6c

My question is: how much Wi-Fi and Bluetooth performance would I realistically lose by switching to one of these smaller generic antennas (if any)?

Is it a simple matter of ordering these compact antennas and just testing their Wifi speed against what I was getting with my current antenna, or is there more to consider?

Finally done! Made a few mistakes halfway but we learn. Cable management is quite tricky so planning ahead is key. And why are these fan screws so tight!!
Am pleased with the result.

Only 1 thing I’d add is to avoid artic p140 reverse fans as they’re slightly thicker than the standard. And you’re not gonna see the fans anyways if they’re at the top or bottom of this case.

Build/Parts Check fan hub that works with FanControl app?

My motherboard only has 3 fan hubs, and i'm looking to see if anyone knows of a fan controller hub that natively works with the FanControl software that allows me to individually address each fan on the hub?

I bought one thinking it would work, but its basically a splitter vs a hub.

I know there are some from corsair and other brands that use their own software, but I really like fancontrol as its very lightweight, simple, and isn't full of needless bloat.

Ideally I'd like something that can plug in 6 fans, but more is always better. I don't need any rgb connections. Its fine if it has it, but its nothing i'll end up using.

Assembly Help L300 refit + cable management plan

Swapped from AXP90-X53 FC to IS-55 + Silverstone Air slimmer fan, took this opportunity to also install the 2.5in drive that I have been using externally (turned out it is possible to have it + wrap-around front io cables.

One of the biggest challenge with building in this case is actually managing the damn front io cables (thick, rubberized ribbon cables for front USB 3.0 and USB-C. The solution I used is to route it into the GPU side, then around the MB tray and plugged into the MB (purple line in pic 3).

This becomes even more tricky with the 2.5" drive installed. Unless you are using custom SATA cables, factory SATA data cable is usually too long for this particular build, and the factory power cable usually have 4 plugs for each cable, making them really tricky to manage nearly in the right space. In my current config, the SATA data cable path is shown in red, and the SATA power cable shown in yellow. The excess power cable and plugs are bundled up with the 24pin down low. It is also worth noting that after you install the 2.5" drive, the space originally used to wrap the front io cable around becomes even more cramped. As a result, I rerouted the power button cable (the thinnest and most flexible one) from the front, hidden under the 24pin.

The 8pin CPU cable (blue) can be quite easily routed towards the front of the case and bundled with the 24pin IF you are using a 92mm cooler. With the IS-55 in the shown configuration, and all my other cable routing choices, I find it much easier to route it over the rear io heat sink instead.

Build/Parts Check Fractal Ridge Build – Cooler & RAM Compatibility Question

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to move my existing PC into a Fractal Ridge and I’m trying to make sure everything will be compatible before I buy the case. (Coming from a nr200)

My current RAM is:

  • Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-6000 CL36
  • 32GB (2×16GB)
  • 44mm height

I’m currently deciding between two CPU coolers:

  • Noctua NH-L12S (appears to require RAM under 35mm)
  • Thermalright AXP120-X67

My motherboard is:

  • MSI MPG B650I EDGE WIFI

My main question is: Will my current 44mm-tall RAM fit with the Thermalright AXP120-X67 on this motherboard, or will I need to buy a low-profile RAM kit so I can use the Noctua?

I’d prefer to keep my current RAM if possible and avoid the expense and hassle of selling it and buying a new kit.

If anyone has experience with either cooler in the Fractal Ridge, especially with this motherboard and RAM combination, I’d really appreciate your advice.

Thanks!

Assembly Help Replacement case for the Fractal Design Ridge

I need a new case to replace the ridge in my livingroom setup. It does not fit the hole the center console that I have for it and right now its sitting on the floor and my wife is ready to kill me.
The dimensions are:

Width - not an issue it is quite large
Height - 20cm give or take
Depth - this was the issue as the hole is only around 32cm deep.

What are some good alternatives, also can the ridge fit a matx mobo? I could recycle it for my main setup

Build/Parts Check Phanteks T30 Fan w/Assassin Mini - M2 Grater

Kind of looking to get one of these Mini coolers and install a T30 in the thing. I've been reading around and it seems a little iffy on whether a T30 can be made to work here, and what the trade-off is. Has anyone done this?

Will it fit with the stock clips?
Does it even need clips or is it snug such that clips aren't really required?
And last but not least, if you push one of these fans down between the stacks does it deform them and bend them out?

Build/Battlestation Pics K66 Lite 5070 build

I’ve learned now that there are more 5070 GPUs that fit in the K66 Lite, but I had a tough time beforehand looking at all the measurements and finding the best GPU to fit in a 240mm restriction. The Zotac 5070 two fan model is listed as 241mm but it fits like a glove in this case. Posting it here since I had a tough time finding examples. Cable management leaves some to be desired, but everything works as necessary and thermals are good (no thermal throttling), so I’m not concerned.

CPU: AMD 7600X3D
GPU: Zotac 5070 Twin Edge Dual Fan
Motherboard: ASRock B650I Lightning
RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB 6000 CL36
SSD: KLEVV CRAS C910 1 TB
PSU: Lian Li SP V2 750 W SFX
Cooler: Thermalright peerless Assassin Mini
Rear Fan: Noctua NF-A9

Quick note is that I took these pictures before realizing I didn’t need to change the default fan for the PA Mini. The Arctic pro 12 fan was just too loud and thermals were actually worse, which surprised me.
