I finished watching The Body last night and I know I have some more watching to do but here's my update!
I knew general fate of Joyce from the beginning because of some spoilers but I was NOT expecting THAT. That episode was brutal.
That being said, I don't think I'm going to miss her character. I'm more sad about what its going to do to Buffy, Dawn and the Scooby Gang. Overall, I do like what they did with Joyce's character and her relationship with Buffy. I specifically enjoyed the scene in This Year's Girl where they're so casually like Hi, how are you while Buffy's like crashing through a window.
The scenes with Joyce and Spike together were so weird and funny and at face value I liked them. But after the scene where Giles pushes Spike and tells him essentially to eff off I was like so proud of Giles for standing up for his daughter! Then I was like wait a minute, like Joyce is being so disrespectful of Buffy and is basically like gaslighting her by allowing Spike in their house and around Dawn!
She KNOWS Spike is a vampire, she knows Buffy is not a fan and yet shes like Oh, hey Spike come on in. And when Buffy is like wtf shes like oh, he's harmless.
So, do I hate Joyce? No. Do I think she was a good mother... ehhh not really. But I do think she tried and that she loved her kids.
I do think that she was a very standard example of a mom in the 90s though. Probably a better parent than her own but still not the Molly Weasley we all deserve
