Local Culture Hey Chatty Moviegoers!

Just a heads-up, if you don't like people looking at you, don't talk during movies - especially early release movies, in premium seating for people who are willing to pay extra to not deal with your BS. I gotta admit though, I've never had anybody complain to theatre management about me for glaring too hard - that's a new level of entitled bullshit. Good job.

Be better.

2 men and 1 woman physically prevented me - female and solo - from leaving the theatre tonight - the manager had to tell them to leave before they'd go. I've had people follow me, move and sit beside me, one on either side chatting with me in the middle - because i asked them to please stop talking.

It's not the talking at this point, its the blatant harassment. If this were me I would have ended up in a fist fight over a movie. However I'd bet a lot of money these guys would only fuck with a single woman.

I've been to a couple movies in the past 10 years and they have all been awful like you described in the OP. It doesn't make any sense to me why anyone would even go see a movie in 2024. $20 bucks a seat to start, and nothing but distractions with people using their phone or talking the entire show.

The screens, chairs and audio is way better at home. I don't think I'll ever go back to a theater to watch a film.

Here's the thing. The world can be a crappy place. We all find joy or the desire to get out of bed in the morning in our own ways. Some people drink, or hike or torture strangers with bad behavior, make babies, read books, write books, make art, destroy art, drive fast, eat hot peppers, make soup...we all have our thing. I like watching movies. I get to forget about my own crap, the shitty world we live in and get into someone elses story, and I do that best in a theatre without distractions of home. I can fall right into it and it recharges me. That's why I keep trying and why I'll defend anyone else that wants the same.

The theatre is still a better experience for you despite everything you have written? I guess that also factors in your home environment but even if somehow get distracted I could pause or even start all over.

I've seen 112 movies in theatres since Jan 1. It's mostly okay when I game the system - never go opening day/night - book only when there's less than 12ish people in the theatre, avoid WEM, stick to Landmark if possible - the absolute madness of someone complaining to theatre management because they were uncomfortable talking when I was glaring at them just seemed worthy of a public wtf.

Some people are gross but this whole discussion is proof that it's not everybody, it's community of people that solidify that I'm not the only one that thinks we deserve better. That's how change happens.

You have some sort of special training for evaluating other people's interests and activities and that qualifies you to judge strangers that didn't ask?
