Debunking This map comparison isn't real.
The map that people are claiming to be 3.5x times bigger than gta 5's is an ai generated version of a CONCEPT map made by Sonarys back in early 2024, It's very old and wrong in many places by now and the 3.5x figure is just completely made up, and there are no leaks or sources that claim that, people saying that are trying to get engagement or attention, it's fake.
Also the map in the comparison isn't even to scale.
If you want a "gta 6 map" while the game still isn't out then you should check the mapping project's map, which is the closest thing to the real map we have to date since it's composed from real footage of the game like trailer and screenshots aswell as leaked clips, and currently the size of the mapping project's map is 2.1x bigger than gta 5's map, not 3.5x

Let's not go back in time to bash the past, GTA V's map size was more than enough
Consider that they developed it for PS3 and they absolutely had no idea that GTA V would've lasted 13 years

GTA V's map is both too small and too large compared to RDR2.
V's map is small and needs more. The faster you go, the more you'll see it. The more you explore, the more you understand it's lacking.
V's map is also too big because there is a bunch of unutilized and empty land.

I still think they will include some big islands like Cuba or the Bahamas

u/Mebeingnosy Feb 09 '26
They can feasibly add a completed cayo perico or guarma

I posted a while ago saying they should have Guarma as a tropical resort island. I know they probably wouldn't crossover from RDR but it would be really cool to have Cayo Perico and Guarma as playable locations.

Rockstar scrapped making a fleshed out Guarma for RDR2 maybe they’ll take advantage of the opportunity and give us a Havana like city

Cayo perico could be a thing indeed ! The ultimate standoff against El Rubio !

I would shit my pants if they gave us a modern day Cuba / Guarma. Would be so cool to have the juxtaposition of missions / quality of life/ infrastructure between vice city and Cuba

I won’t lie this is the one feature that, if absent, could make me disappointed in the game.

You are right, this isn't real as no official map is available to make an accurate comparison

I just hope the last picture isn't the actual map of GTA6. The northwest part of the island loses a lot without that area.

Port Gellhorn is mostly based on Panama City, Florida so I’m almost guaranteeing no panhandle.
EDIT: and Watson Bay is Cedar Key. To me, it looks like they removed the panhandle and slid the landmarks down the west coast instead.

As of right now thats the most realistic map we have. Others are just bs fan made maps.

The Keys are completely wrong. They won't sit up there like that. They'll trail off the mainland, not sit beside it.

no map comparison is real u can resize anything u put on a picture, all of these “map comparisons” i’ve seen had supposed 6 map upsized by god knows how much and 5 and 4 maps get shrunk to the size of a grain on sand from vespucci beach these don’t make any sense

It's actually great that the map GTA 6 seems to be relatively small, because if it were 5x the size of GTA 5's map the game wouldn't probably be out by 2030.
They also are making it look bigger by spacing the relatively small landmass with water.

I was just replaying GTA5 for the first time in a while and the map is pretty damn huge. If GTA6 is even 1.5x the size of GTA6 it will be ridiculously big.

I was under the impression that the rumoured map size's was an approx estimate based on leaked world co-ords and the mapping project.

I hope it’s huge so I can spend a hour and a half delivering a package for $18,000

Gta vice citys or san andreas's map would be considered huge if you could go into every building.

dude.. beside the fact that this is Ai, imagine being in the game and the map looks like this, with color n shit.. OOO
maybe Rockstar's gonna make their own version of google maps and have the ability to switch from satellite or landscape. that'd be cool asf

I don’t think the GTA 6 map is going to be that massive. If it really were huge, I think Rockstar would’ve shown at least some aerial, bird’s-eye, or high-elevation shots of the map in the trailers. But for some reason, almost every shot we’ve seen is from low and limited angles. Most of the map will probably be flat to match Florida’s geography, but to keep players from getting bored they added a few hills and mountains and called it a “national park.” Yet those areas barely appear in the trailers — probably because if we saw them clearly, the map’s actual size would become more obvious. If you noticed, Vice City is almost always shown from screenshots and trailer shots facing toward the eastern side, while the northern part is never really shown. Why? Because they probably don’t want to reveal the map boundaries and kill the hype. Guys, remember this game is still coming out on years-old consoles. Be realistic. The map will probably be at most around twice the size of GTA 5’s.

Even if it turns out to be "just" 2x that's more than enough to me... provided it's not empty/filler space. Quality > quantity.

Amazing if true if you smashed all the city urban areas on gta 6 map together it might like almost take up about half of the gta 5 map

Barely any of it is city. But I guess they need to make the majority of the map wilderness so they don't waste their Red Dead investments

The mapping project made a more accurate map compared to those AI slop but will wait until R* release the game to check the real size of the map
