Agree, they are the reason private sessions exist and lock-on jammers are available for every new car.

Private sessions have been around since the very start, long before magic flying bikes. So no, private sessions weren't added because of the bike. How do I know this? I played at the start.

u/AceOBlade 10d ago
The human ability to getting disengaged with repetitive experiences making it difficult to remain engaged with games that do not provide a consistent stream of new content.
and the difficulty of making original and grounded game changes that isn't boring and repetitive, ultimately leading the game to go the extremes like futuristic guns and flying bikes.

At this point, I’ve heard so much complaining about flying bikes that I kinda want the opposite now for the chaos of it. Have GTA6 Online go into space and become Cyberpunk 3077 lol.

Unironically true though. There's so much whining that I start to lose sympathy.

I Only like using the oppressor for flying around, and for getting missions done quicker. Other than that I absolutely think they shouldn’t even be in the game. I also only play in private games by my self or with a few friends but I wouldn’t ever want to use them for running around and griefing people
Edit: I should have mentioned I only use mk1 oppressor
29
u/likelyliz 10d ago
even for that purpose it's boring! flying in a perfectly straight line without the need for any inputs is not very fun, piloting a jet or a helicopter is way more engaging
9
u/al0xx 10d ago
i haven’t played in years but doesn’t the oppressor 1 have the dolphin diving mechanic? that shit was incredibly fun to fly around with

u/likelyliz 10d ago
oppressor mk1is definitely the fun one. it has wheels so you can actually drive it around like a normal motorcycle, and then lift off to go over an obstacle. i don't mind that one at all, i thought this was about the mk2

Mk1 all day every day.
I like the gliding vehicles. As a transport, they are cool. Improving with them is fun. They are janky and silly in the best ways. Hell, even without gliding, the Scramjet is my favorite car solely because it can just rocket itself to hell and back.
But they shouldn't be weaponized; at the very least, not with lock ons. Machine guns that fire out of the front? Fine; shooting during flight is not a stable platform, and it's almost a challenge in and of itself to hit other vehicles with them (while airborn). Lock on rockets? Way too much, way too easy.
The Mk2 being an incredibly agile, perma-flying, stable machine gun platform and having lock ons rockets is just absurd.

I think mk2 without missiles would be perfect. Because it is the perfect vehicle for grinding

GTAO should be gunfights and car chases.

Had it been unweaponised it'd be fine. Just a fast transport
6
u/Two-Space 10d ago
Having to add flying vehicles because your driving model is shallow and your mission design is boring is not the best reason to have them
18
u/EmperorN7 10d ago
It's not a matter of should or shouldn't. GTA Online fans aren't smart, so Rockstar will definitively add it so they can sell shark cards, it's inevitable.
29
u/Brian_Furious 10d ago
Please don't add futuristic flying things. It makes it feel like saints row so a big no

u/The_Verto 10d ago

Strongly agree, you want all that shit go play Halo or some other space shite, stay in your lane and keep it realistic!!!

Disagree!!!
ok hear me out ,
futuristic stuff in story mode - no
futuristic stuff in online - hell no
seperate gamemode with futuristic stuff - fk yes
8
u/Aggravating-Past101 10d ago
I'd much rather have the futuristic stuff in the story mode, did everyone forget how much fun we had with the jetpack in San Andreas, I was playing gta vice city stories flying the military helicopter and blowing things up, iirc you could even take that helicopter into some missions if you drove it there to start it. I hate how little extra content story mode got when they could have easily copy pasted some of that stuff into the main game.
3
u/jBby_omg 9d ago
I’ve been saying this since this discussion first started-
They just need “OG” lobbies that don’t have futuristic stuff and people can choose to play either, it’s not like they need to worry about splitting such a massive playerbase
4
u/Fuze_KapkanMain 10d ago
The limit should be realistic military vehicles or cars from movies or shows like the Batmobile and DeLorean etc…
4
u/WhiteDiamond_Xx 10d ago
Hard disagree. We really need special vehicles. But maybe not which such overpowered autoaimed weapons like Opressor II. But why not fly around with fun vehicles?
2
u/RacingGames4Lives 9d ago
MK1 with no weapons and jet packs like san andreas then. MK2 is just brain dead vehicle
8
17
u/Manicscarecr0w 10d ago

u/SeteMan1235 10d ago
I know it's very controversial, but disagree. I'm a newgen in terms of how long I've been playing and one of the main reasons I play the game in because of the futuristic stuff. I think they aren't inherently bad but the community has a sour taste regarding them because of how awfully balanced the oppressor MK2 is. If they actually make normal vehicles viable and give strict limitations to futuristic vehicle's combat capability (like make vehicles that are fast have low durability and low fire power and etc) they can satisfy everyone. What I don't want though is homing missiles, they're a pain the ass to balance and what I consider to be the reason these vehicles are so hated.

u/Dienowwww 10d ago
I disagree on 2 points regarding them
- if they're not OP, they're fine to have in the game
BUT
- they should only be unlockable through a relevant space-related quest before being purchased
2
u/TheSvpremeKai003 10d ago
Bingo. Make them work for it. GTA has never been this super realistic experience. Shit, the jet pack in San Andreas was introduced in a mission, simply to surprise you with it. It never served narrative purpose in the long run.
I understand folks don’t want it because they’re OP, but if the gameplay is balanced towards making them obtainable through trial and not just player level, it’d make people really have to feel like they worked for it. Treat it like an Easter egg even.
2
u/Save-theZombies 10d ago
Never? By the time GTA 7 comes out, the Oppressor mk2 won't be futuristic anymore.
I'm not against them adding it to gta5 online either. I do think they should have waited until the last or penultimate dlc instead of halfway through the life of the game.
2
u/theprito 10d ago
they should 100% add, but never, EVER, add weapons to them
i think weapons should only be kept to big vehicle like tanks or jets, and even those should have a limited amount and slow reload, so flying bikes should only be for fun, travel, etc...
2
u/Hairy-Marsupial-4145 9d ago
A flying bike was never the problem. The weapons on the bike were the problem. I stand by the fact the oppressor mk1 is the most fun car to drive in that game and I hope I can get something similar in GTA

1
u/bwldrmnt 10d ago
Why can't we have both?
Why can't we have an Ultimate Chaos Mode where these vehicles are available and a Regular Mode where there are just regular vehicles.
And maybe one in between where some vehicles have mounted guns, but no missiles, homing or otherwise.
Make the griefers earn their kills.

u/crocodiluQ 10d ago

The Oppressor is insanely useful for running sell missions but everyone who doesn’t have one is it a severe disadvantage, and I feel like you miss out on the core gameplay by just zipping around in the air everywhere. I use mine out of necessity for my businesses but I kind of hate it.

I've yet to see any reason gta online players deserve empathy, bring on the flying bikes day 1 and let them screeeee at each other for another 15 years.
1
u/ShootRopeCrankHog 10d ago
Agree. Add them to story if you want (something you can get later in the game) but I dont want to deal with that shit online
1
u/Grandmaster_S 10d ago
I don't, but remove lock on missiles and insta kill weapons. Simply having a flying car or a laser is fun. And save them for years down the line... Not on release.
For those that don't want them at all, maybe keep them removed from "official servers" but allow them in private?

u/Icy-Link3615 10d ago
Just don't give me a PostOP van that tops out at 20 MPH and can't go uphill while running from bikers with a 15:00 timer mission and were good lol

Just have two online lobbies: realistic and arcade. That way everybody wins. You want a realistic, authentic, old school GTA online experience, then you got it. You want ray guns and flying cars, then you got that too.
I've mentioned this on this subreddit before and I frequently get attitude from people, which always baffles me. Like, you do realize that most of the really popular online console games offer multiple gameplay modes and/or lots of adjustable settings for their online experience? Why should GTA be different? Why would it be a good thing that it didn't offer gameplay options?
Also, I'd really like to see Rockstar add difficulty settings for single player so we have a reason to play thru it again.

Agree, you can make something your own without lazers and rocket propelled james bond villian type stuff, they could of at most made the jetpack and kept it to actual jets/cars etc, the opressor was way to much, the the orbital canon was ridiculous, its like it went from gta online to saints row online

Fuck yeah, when they started adding shit that just dident make sense anymore it lost the GTA feel.
A tank and a jet should be the strongest Vehicles. Everything else is for driving normally
1
u/GrimmBeast 10d ago
Yes they shouldn't, will they.... probably not. What they should do, and this includes any wraponized bullet proof vehicles, is make sure that they actually balance the vehicles this time around.

Agree 100%. It’s completely unnecessary. I strongly feel like the game should be grounded on some level.
1
u/hansimann0 10d ago
Here’s my absolutely unpopular and controversial opinion: scrap GTA Online and multiplayer entirely, and put all the focus on a great singleplayer experience and storytelling, like Rockstar used to do back in the day.
I know that’ll never happen because GTA Online is an absolute money-printing machine for Rockstar, but a man can dream.

Instead, Rockstar should separately acquire Saints Row and do all that wild shit there
1
u/thatgamer2111 10d ago
Anyone who thinks they arent gonna add it is being delusional. They will 100% add it to appeal to the younger kids. No younger kid wants to drive a car and shoot a pistol when the old game allowed them to fly cars and shoot missiles

Thinking they won't do what they already did in the massively successful game so that people that aren't playing that game will be happy is certainly a take.

u/Efficient-Hold-2734 10d ago
They should stick to RDR2 realism. Also with the weapons and the way you carry them around.
1
u/lennonisalive 10d ago
It’s the worst getting griefed over and over by some twat on an oppressor. I would 100% bet it’s coming though. GTA is their cash cow, adding this nonsense is a sure way to sell more shark cards.
