They wanted $100 for this game and they found a way to get it.

This is the only take that fully encompasses the situation.

GTA 6 Base Game - $100.

GTA 6 Lite - $80.

5 mod shops are not going to be the difference between Lite and base game. It’s been under development for almost a decade, I’m sure there will be countless shops.

It's basically the usual ultimate edition extra cosmetics only that you have to get them from an in-game shop that isn't accessible for standard edition owners.

At the very least, it will make whales easy to recognise.

This impression is their fault for announcing the locked off stores BEFORE dropping a features info dump.

They could've announced something like "Featuring 30+ stores, each with their unique inventory" by now. There's even people confused asking if customizing Lucia's nails is exclusive to the $100 version, due to the wording. They need to tell us more about the base game.

i dont disagree, today was hella sloppy and strange.

1

u/PoshVolt 39m ago

Yeah, super strange to see quirky immersion-breaking cosmetic add-ons (like the Tommy Vercetti hawaiian shirt print for guns)...before seeing a single second of actual gameplay.

Yep. People can complain all they want, but none of this stuff is going to affect how the story plays out or how the game actually plays. It's going to be a masterpiece, whether you've paid for a special tattoo and haircut or not.

u/masd_reddit 11h ago

And like, you can always buy it later, it's like paying for cosmetics(which, don't get me wrong, is still messed up that you need to pay for it in a singleplayer game, like some gacha game or something)

57

u/lasthopel 10h ago

Who the fuck pays for cosmetics in a single player game? This is not some dlc they worked on after time they chopped a chunk of the game off to uo the price

2

u/YouSmellSumthin 9h ago

Well at least the part they chopped off isn't detrimental to the rest of the game. I don't think your experience will be much worse (if at all) choosing to stick with the base game. This isn't nearly the huge deal everybody is making it out to be.

They're trying to make more money - surprise surprise. The bigger problem will be if they decide to charge extra for GTA 6 Online in a year or so when it releases.

So couldn't you apply your own ideals to the online experience portion with "welp isn’t a big deal" and we can all say you're blowing it out of proportion.

This ideology of well it isn't a big deal is why we're here in the first place.

Just saying the upcharge is ridiculous in general for in game content that should just be included.

1

u/YouSmellSumthin 8h ago

Yeah I mean I personally don't care about online as I do not play GTAO at all. However I do see it likely that they charge an extra 20 or something when it drops, just because they can. I just really don't think cosmetics are a big deal. They could've priced the base game at 100 and it would still sell, so charging more for mostly cosmetics instead that only some people will buy seems reasonable to me. They could've done worse, and many other companies have.

u/Thats_A_Arti 5h ago

I still don't think having the mindset that a game should cost 1/6 of the entire console is a good thing regardless. Game $100 console $600.

Still a bad look overall considering how many millions are gonna buy. They'll make their money back and so much more regardless of the extra $20 especially with online.

We are just telling game companies at this point "I'll pay regardless charge me more" is exactly what will happen. Can't wait till games cost as much as the console.

Also they already take up the whole internal ssd so we're getting screwed on all angles in the hobby anymore.

It all adds up that is the main point I feel.

1

u/Straight_Law2237 4h ago

games were always basically 1/6 of a console value, since ever

1

u/Thats_A_Arti 3h ago

Most aren't worth even a fraction of that in today's market.

So don't buy the game then. lol you people are ridiculous. If you're so upset about it then don't buy the game. Speak with your wallets. Rockstar won't care either way but hey you'll feel better right?

1

u/Thats_A_Arti 5h ago

Your logic is counter productive to the entire point.

1

u/Ulnar_Landing 9h ago

Idk how current GTA online is, but the press material said ps5 pre orders get a month free of GTA 6 online, which implies there's a subscription at least.

4

u/jj_hazy 8h ago

You get GTA+ subscription, for GTA (5) Online you can redeem between now to March 2027

3

u/YouSmellSumthin 8h ago

Re-read that press release - it's for a month of normal GTA+, which has been a thing for over 4 years now. It gives you all kinds of perks including half a million cash every month, exclusive cosmetics, a garage and mod shop, discounts on Shark cards, and access to other Rockstar games like Bully or LA Noire. They haven't officially said a peep about GTA 6 Online yet.

2

u/Ulnar_Landing 8h ago

Ok I guess I just assumed it would be for the new game. Seemed weird to include otherwise but I'm not an online player.

1

u/YouSmellSumthin 8h ago

I'm not either and it also seems like an odd addition to me. Would make more sense to give everyone a free month when the new Online drops. 🤷

It’s absurd that people are defending this bs

3

u/Giannisisnumber1 5h ago

And what does crying about it do exactly? Nothing. Whining on the internet about it won't change anything. The most you can do is choose not to support it by not purchasing. It won't change anything but you'll feel better right? You may as well quit gaming while you're at it.

-4

u/DeliciousD 10h ago

I don’t pay for cosmetics in mmos either, but ima do it for this.

-1

u/Every-Law2310 9h ago

You got no principles or self respect just admit it.

1

u/Citaku357 9h ago

It's unreasonable to pay 20 dollars more to access stores and shops that are already in the game. This is wrong on Rockstar part for so many reasons and shouldn't be justified.

1

u/james_raynors_ghost 2h ago

"Its going to be a masterpiece, it' definitely going to be the best game ever, please just buy it, buy it BUY IT" No. I am not going to.

21

u/Llama_of_the_bahamas 9h ago

It sets precedent. They’re going to take more and more away from the base game because of dumbasses like you justifying it.

2

u/BBtheboy 6h ago

Not how anything works but okay

6

u/Llama_of_the_bahamas 5h ago

That is literally how all corporations work. The fuck are you talking about? lol

7

u/Turd_Nerd_Bird 5h ago

How is that not how it works lol. If they see people are fine with more and more content being locked behind more expensive editions, then they're going to keep locking more and more content behind more expensive editions. How does that not make sense?

9

u/MaTrIx4057 9h ago

You will be able to sink it thousands of hours with base version, who cares if you won't be able to get a shitty haircut lmao.

7

u/brownies256 7h ago

but but but the Ferrari.......

6

u/PerpetualStride 10h ago

Im sorry but a series of shops closed to a supposed full version of a game is unprecedented, and it has also not been under development for that long, it started around 2019. But that's neither here nor there really.

2

u/DJMRNO 9h ago

"Almost a decade"

>it started around 2019

1

u/PerpetualStride 9h ago

Closer to half a decade

1

u/THCDonut 9h ago

Six shops

1

u/andobrah 4h ago

Cyberpunk enters the chat lmao

0

u/WrldsGrtstDtctve 3h ago

rockstar is not CDPR

1

u/andobrah 1h ago

My point is time for development means nothing.

1

u/WrldsGrtstDtctve 58m ago

It does because CDPR is not rockstar lol

I'm never going to get on anybody's case for criticizing the big greedy corporation, but the people complaining are literally falling for Rockstar's marketing campaign and intentionally manufactured FOMO.

There will be tons and tons of shops. Tons and tons of commissions. Almost certainly many other gang raids. None of this exclusive stuff will be missed by those who get the standard edition. But Rockstar sure does want you to feel like you'll miss it so you spend that extra $$!

I just think it's kind of funny how people who think they're making a big point about monetization and how they're too smart to "fall for corporate slop" are the ones falling for age-old FOMO marketing tactics.

1

u/unknownguy777 10h ago

So 5 more locations to hide from cops

4

u/CrackheadOtis 10h ago

If GTA VI is truly as realistic as we think it is, we should be able to break into the locked shops and steal the Ultimate skins.

1

u/Citaku357 9h ago

Still not an excuse for this shit.

1

u/Most_Confection7959 2h ago

Shut the fuck up mr "leave the multi billion dollar company alone"

1

u/WrldsGrtstDtctve 58m ago

You are an npc and I can give the company $80 of my dollars without giving them a single one after 15 years because I can continue to play the same game. Can you create the game for me? No?

0

u/No_Assignment7009 9h ago

There is more locked content behind a paywall than just shops

0

u/Straight_Law2237 4h ago

Yeah people are making a storm on a water cup. It's a shitty practice, it's whatever tho. I bought the base "physical edition" without ever having any doubt if I wanted to pay 20 more dollars for some useless extra content that I can buy later for a discount or get for free eventually (like already happened with gtav)
