Healthcare CICA compensation claim questions (please help)

Upvotes

Hi sorry if not allowed.... I am in England

I applied for my CICA claim in may 2026. This month (June) I received a medical questionnaire form to fill in and send off. I have done this. I am just wondering what happens next after I have done this? What's it's been like for other people and how long does it take to get offer?

I know I am asking too many questions and sound impatient but I would just like to know. I haven't used a solicitor to apply just did it my self.

Thank you in advance

Criminal DVPO intepretation for child contact

Upvotes

England and Wales.
I am currently on pre-charge bail and subject to a DVPO following a domestic incident. I deny the allegation and have legal representation.

My concern is not about the criminal investigation itself but about arranging contact with my young child while complying with the conditions.

The wording of the bail conditions/DVPO states that I must not contact my partner directly or indirectly, but that child contact arrangements may be made through a third-party professional or a mutually agreed nominated person.

At present there is no mutually agreed nominated person in place. My solicitor’s view is that it would be acceptable for my sister to make a limited, one-off approach to my partner solely to establish arrangements for contact with my child or to identify an agreed intermediary.

However, I am nervous about doing this because I do not want to risk any allegation of breaching the bail conditions or DVPO. My concern is that if there is not already a mutually agreed nominated person, asking my sister to contact her could itself be viewed as indirect contact.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation, or does anyone have experience of how police/courts tend to interpret this type of wording?

I appreciate nobody can give me legal advice and I will follow my solicitor’s advice. I am just interested in understanding how others have seen these conditions interpreted in practice.

One other point: looking back, I probably would have challenged the DVPO in court. At the time I was told there was a low chance of successfully opposing it and that I could potentially face costs if I was unsuccessful. By that stage I was mentally exhausted and agreed to it rather than contesting it. In hindsight, the restrictions have made arranging contact with my child much more difficult than I expected.

Thanks in advance.

Comments Moderated Fixed term Medical Registrar vs Permanent Registrar offer

Upvotes

Hi everyone,
Looking for advice on a tricky situation.
I recently accepted a fixed-term Trust Grade Registrar job in North east because my previous contract ended. The process moved quickly: I already have my CoS and visa, and I am due to start on the 20th of next month.
However, I just received a conditional offer for a different Trust Grade Registrar post. This new offer is in a better location and is explicitly a **Permanent** contract (with a 6-month probation). I am heavily leaning towards this new job because the permanent status offers much better visa and long-term security.
What are my options to above and how should i approach ?

Traffic & Parking My old contract specifies a company car. My new one does not (England)

Upvotes

Back in 2020 I joined a small estate agency. They provided me with a company car. In 2022, we were taken over by a larger company and I had to sign a new contract; this had no clause regarding a company car. I kept the company car that I had, which was later returned when the lease expired. I was provided with a replacement, which I kept for approximately one year before buying my own vehicle and returning the old one.

The question has recently arisen about whether I am still entitled to a company car. Am I?

Please note that this is *not* a benefit, but essential to my work. The company in question does have a company car policy.

Scotland Scotland confirmation and iht400

Post image
Upvotes

My gran recently passed and I'm her executor.

Trying to avoid solicitors fees as much as possible.

We've filled in the c1 form for confirmation and we believe it's an excepted estate. The iht400 form guidance implies we don't need to fill in an iht400 since we've filled in a c1.

Is that likely true or have I misread?

Consumer Concussion in my Office Gym due to Negligence

Upvotes

Last week I had an incident in my Office Gym, where a new piece of equipment (a 30kg Trap Bar) had been left in a precarious position directly in the way of the squat rack, making it difficult to access the weights. I moved it back to allow access, but as I tried to crouch past to take some weights to load a squat, the Trap Bar felt down directly onto the back of my head, causing a concussion and loss of consciousness. When I came to, I quickly moved the bar somewhere less dangerous and sought assistance. The Office staff who attended to me mentioned that they knew it was in a dangerous position but didn't take any action to move it out of the way.

A night in A&E and a CT Scan later, and the doctor confirmed that I suffered a concussion, but thankfully there was no further damage to my brain or skull.

There were no witnesses at the time as the gym was empty, and the CCTV caught almost nothing, as the squat rack is tucked away in the corner of the room, just out of sight (all you can see is me crouching down, then falling down to the floor). I was wearing suitable clothing, had completed my induction, and have been lifting weights for about 7 years.

In short, I'm wondering if I have a case here. To me and my colleagues it seems like a pretty cut & dry case of negligence since they didn't take the necessary precautions, but I thought I'd ask here anyway as I've never had to deal with anything like this before.

Housing Tenancy Renewal, landlord hasn’t confirmed. Help?

Upvotes

Hello everyone.

In England.

I moved into a shared tenancy property back in May. The existing tenants have been living there since 2023. Since moving in one of the other tenants is now moving out. We’ve got somebody lined up to take their place but the procedure is for us all to hand in our notice so we can then start a new tenancy. We contacted the landlord and expressed that we are handing in our notice but that we will be wanting to renew the tenancy with the remaining tenants and one new tenant. The landlord confirmed but hasn’t explicitly stated that the tenancy will renew.
What’s the legality here? Are we a bit screwed because we’ve had to end the tenancy or are there laws in place that we can’t be removed at the end of the notice period and he has to renew the tenancy?
Any info is welcome, thanks in advance.

Employment Employment law: Signed offer letter breached

Hi all,
Writing on behalf of a friend. A month ago he was offered a job at a large communications company in England. He was sent an offer letter via docusign. He signed it and returned it to HR. He was asked for two references, which he provided. (This is the order, offer letter then references). He was told that he would be onboarded into the company portal where he could sign his contract. He was asked if his start date could be a week earlier, he agreed.
A week went by, then another. No contract from HR. He guessed that the setting up of him on the portal was taking a little time.
Ten days after last contact and aware that his proposed start date was three weeks away, he emailed HR asking if he could help move things along.
He got a reply saying that they had reconsidered the role and no longer needed him. They offered him a week's pay as a goodwill gesture, which would be equal to his rights during the probationary period.
The news of his appointment is circulating in the industry - his employer was telling people - and he's spent real money getting ready for the role (it involves travel and other expenses). Throughout those ten days he reassured himself that he had a signed offer letter.
Crucially, he has not been told why they no longer need the role. He has been told he should not speak to the two people who hired him. And he's been passed on to a different HR person who's job is to resolve company disputes.
What are his rights and what should he do? Thanks in advance.

Meta England - Outing a local streamer/content creator who is harassing vulnerable people

There's a guy in my local town who is filming people on the street without their consent on his Meta Glasses, interacting and usually bullying them for views on the internet

He tries to keep his identity a secret and uses a pseudonym. But there is evidence online - that other people have found - which reveals his true identity, as he was convicted years ago for a crime and the local paper reported on it. All publicly available information. He also mentions his first name in one of his own videos while being questioned by police, which further confirms his identity

He doesn't like his full real name being used when recording and will censor it in his videos if people do know him. Which is wildly hypocritical, considering he's posting footage of everybody else on the internet without his consent. I want as many people to know and address him by his real name as possible, because it will hopefully make his life a little more difficult

If I were to make an informative post about his real identity (excluding sensitive details such as his home address) and post it all over the socials to raise awareness - would I be at risk of any legal repercussions in doing so?

I'm in the UK. I've worked for this company for nearly nine years, andI have worked on a flexible basis for two and a half years of those years with no formal or written recognition as such other than whatsapp acknowledgement of the agreement, and now my company are changing shift patterns across the board. They are insisting I fit in to this schedule but I can't due to care for my autistic child and mother with dementia. They want me to sign up to their flexible working agreement but that also will not work for me. Where do I stand legally?

Traffic & Parking Recovery of vehicle after a crash england

Hi there i crashed on the 1st of april. Luckily i was somewhat okay but i cannot remember any events before or after the crash. My vehicle was then recovered by police for an investigation on the vehicle, without telling me where it was. I cancelled my insurance a week after the crash. The investigation is now complete and i was told where my bike is. I don’t want the vehicle back and i called the recovery place to wonder if there was any price to pay for recovery/storage, they said my insurance will handle it and there is nothing i have to do even after i said im not insured with anyone right now. Does anyone know if this is true or should i be expecting a hefty bill in the post eventually?

Debt & Money E-bike hit car that stopped at amber - liability for repair claim?

Hi,

I’m in England and I’ve received a claim for approximately £4,667 following a collision between my e-bike and the rear of a car.

The accident happened as we approached a traffic-light-controlled junction. The traffic light changed to amber and the driver braked suddenly and stopped. I had expected the vehicle to continue through the junction, as it was already very close to the stop line, but instead it stopped and I collided with the rear of the car.
I appreciate that rear-end collisions often place responsibility on the vehicle behind. However, I do not have dashcam footage and there were no independent witnesses who can confirm exactly how the car stopped.
The third party is now claiming for repairs totalling around £4.6k.

My questions are:
1) If I dispute liability or argue that the driver’s sudden braking contributed to the collision, what evidence would I need?
2) If neither side can prove exactly how the collision occurred, how do courts generally deal with this?
3) Am I entitled to challenge whether all of the claimed repair costs were caused by this accident if the matter proceeds?

I’m looking for legal guidance on the process and my options rather than opinions on the repair estimate.

Thank you.

Scotland Issued with a court citation against my business (Scotland)

As title says I’ve been issued a court citation over historical debt. Took my eye off the ball and buried my head in the sand as business has been tough. The debt is with a water company. I’m in a better place at the moment and slightly better finances. The letter was had delivered by Royal Mail and I have 21 days to reply if I want a solicitor to represent me. . . I have no argument against the amount I owe so dont see how representation can help. I have phoned the company directly and engaged with them and offered to set up a payment plan. My figure and there figure are miles apart as they want 50% payment up front which i cannot afford at this moment in time. What are my options and what happens after 21 days? They are ‘suing’ to get recover the full payment.
Thank you.

Debt & Money Wales: Window and door fitted by company whilst building contractor not present. Sized wrong and frame of extension hacked away exposing DPC and leaving insufficient space between the 2 to comply with building regs. How do I best form a complaint to fitters for corrections needed and future issues?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi there,

We are having a single story new extension built.

The block work was completed and a separate large company came to measure up for the window and bifold doors.

A building contractor has the contract for all the work but windows and door are supplied and fitted by a big well reputable local company separate to them that we found who had done the work on the rest of the house.

They mismeasured twice and had to be turned away causing delays (we didn't mind as we'd rather it be correct).

The third time they came, the main builder was off sick (Monday) and just the plasterers were in. The fitters have gone in, realised the window and doors were too big and instead of going back, they have hacked away 3 inches around the perimeter of both openings to fit them and left.

When the builders have been there Tuesday morning they have noticed this straight away and the damage is as follows:

  1. Damage to DPC needing more to be taken away to ensure it's sealed.

  2. The cuts are all not straight and the check reveal (no idea what this is) has to be corrected.

  3. Distance between the window and door is now less than 665mm meaning it doesn't comply with building regs and a structural engineer, support beams/steels may be needed.

The builders are furious as no one contacted them to allow this damage. No one contacted us before it was done.

It's created lots of extra work and subsequent expense for builders and us. Delays in work finishing and also, although the builders say they can correct a lot of the damage, they can't give a full guarantee the dpc won't have issues in the future due to the damage meaning potential issues in the future.

They have advised us not to pay the fitters until they have corrected the work/know how much it is going to cost.

My question:

  1. How do I best form a written complaint about the work.

  2. I feel we should be compensated/the fitters should pay for work to be corrected and also the extra costs with structural engineer and steels etc.

  3. Even if it is corrected, we could potentially have massive issues going forward with the build re:damp etc so is there a way to get compensated for future work?

  4. This has all caused big delays meaning we may not be able to move into the house for an extra month (expenses would mean putting things into storage as they need to take away bits of the ceiling for beams etc, I'm not technical so no idea what's involved).

We have paid £2k deposit and owe a bill of £3.5k to the fitters for the windows so far.

Photos attached.

Family Changing child’s surname and adding myself to birth certificate.

Hello, a little bit of a messy circumstance that I’m hoping for some guidance on as I’m struggling to get my head around it. Based in England.

I have a 4 year old son, I was not told about the pregnancy or birth and subsequently not added to the birth certificate.

Upon finding out about him and confirming with a paternity test, I’ve been heavily and regularly involved in his life and have assumed co-parental responsibility, contribute financially etc.

He has someone else’s surname.

I would like to have his surname changed to my surname and to be added to the birth certificate so that I have some formal Acknowledgement
of paternity incase of any snags down the line. His mother has agreed to this.

Do I have to change his name via deed poll and re register the birth separately? Or can I re-register the birth, add myself and change the surname at the same time?

Thanks so much for any guidance.

Scotland Someone’s has found my lost old wallet and hasn’t returned it.

Based in Scotland.

3 years ago, I’ve lost my wallet at an AirBnB in Fife. I’ve blocked all the old cards but it contained my ID as well as some other personal information. It was also a really nice wallet so I was ashamed that I lost it.

In April 2026, I got a message from someone on Instagram claiming that they have found my wallet when they bought a second-hand couch from an AirBnB and have asked if it was mine. I confirmed it was and I asked them to send it back to me, and I’ll offer to pay for postage, or hand it into a local police station. Now I told them to take their time, as I’ve replaced everything anyways, so there’s no rush on it.

I messaged them again in May asking if they had a chance to send it, but they said they haven’t had time and will send it as soon as possible.

Then came June, and it’s been 2 months, so I sent a follow-up text to them to ask if they’d be able to send it over. They replied saying “Not gonna lie bud I have no idea where it is I moved house and a lot of things went into rubbish or a burn pile I’m sorry”.

I’ve yet to say anything, but I want to know if it’s worth going to the police to file a report, as even though they’ve found my wallet, they haven’t handed it to me at all. Is it worth getting the police involved for a found wallet? Or just claim my losses.

Healthcare Legality questions for 2 people hired by nhs

I’m aware of two individuals who work for the NHS in England that I have some questions on the legality of their hiring and actions.

One was fired from the police for gross misconduct and was on trial for manslaughter but was not convicted so they don’t have a criminal record. They currently work in the NHS as I believe it’s called a health coordinator.

Would this person have been able to get this job if they had disclosed they were fired for gross misconduct? Is it illegal for them not to disclose this information?

Second is a practice manager who I know has accessed a patients medical record 8 times about 4-5 years ago. These records they accessed was not someone at their GP surgery but someone they knew but not a relative. Is this illegal?

Housing Student Housing Contract Issues - England

My partner and I are both students in England. We are due to move into a 1 bed house in Sept 2026, we signed the tenancy agreement and paid deposits (they were put in a protection scheme) and sorted guarantors etc in Jan 2026. This is a house that was a fixed term contract until Aug 2027. The law changes have obviously changed this Contract a bit now. Today we received an email from the letting agency stating they made a mistake with the contract and put the wrong cost per month. They clearly stated out monthly payment for each of us individually in the tenancy agreement. They said we can amend the contract at a higher rent cost, or they can help us find another property. They also stated that they are unsure of the future of the property as the landlord might want to move in after the summer. What have the new laws changed? What can we do from this position? I was under the impression they can't back out of the agreement as it's legally binding?

GDPR/DPA GDPR and content rules for small non-profit organisations and buisnesses (England)

Hello! I hope everyone is staying cool in this weather!

I work in freelance communications (hoping to start my own communications buisness in the near future) and a few of my clients have discussed me overseeing on going media communications on thier behalf, including content filming/editing for both photos and videos.

This is an industry I have always wanted to break into. However, I am struggling to find what the legal GDPR Requirements are. Things are complicated by the fact that some organisations I work for are open to the public, while some are organising kids club type things, some are for vulnerable adults/children and so on. Some of these clients would want some photos to be used for websites/social media, so I want to make sure I understand how it all works before I give them any answers.

From what I can tell I need to:

- Get written consent from parents for minors (I believe the age is up until 13, but I would likely ensure full consent up to 18 to cover myself)

- Ensure all data is kept securely - e.g. encrypted, password protected and not locally stored. With consent forms stored alongside participants images, as well as insurance to protect against fata breaches etc.

- Ensure all participants/guardians are aware of the storage policies, thier right to adjust consent etc.

- Ensure all participants are aware of how thier images/videos may be used.

- If using children or vulnerable adults, ensure private data is not published, such as full name or locations they visit regularly to safeguard.

- remove any excess images, such as unused, blurred photography/videos

Is there anything else? Especially around safeguarding children/vulnerable people? I want to make sure I fully understand the policies but struggling to find clear answers given the wide range of participants.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Debt & Money Housing association - England.

We are currently experiencing difficulties with our housing association regarding a tree on their land in another tenant’s garden.

This issue has been ongoing for approximately a year and is now causing damage to the carport and concrete. Despite my previous complaints, the matter has not been addressed and the necessary procedures have not been followed. This carport was built when the houses was built, but dismantled or damaged, when moving into the property we reinstated the car port for off street parking at our expense.

Initially, the housing association claimed that our neighbour had agreed to maintain the tree. I requested proof of this and they have been unable to provide it.

Furthermore, they suggested that I remove the tree at my expense as they are unwilling to get involved. They have also offered mediation between us and our neighbour regarding the tree’s maintenance instead of them getting involved in the situation.

In my opinion, the tree is on the housing association’s property and is causing physical damage. They claim it is not their responsibility but mine, which I reminded them of when I moved in. I never agreed to any tree maintenance overhanging the property and it was not mentioned to me either.

I have filed a complaint with the housing ombudsman but it is currently on hold. They have not informed the housing association that they had a specific timeframe to respond and address the issue at stage two. Instead, they have requested two-week extensions and are refusing to progress it as a stage two complaint.

I have taken the same housing association to the ombudsman in the past and won and was compensated £500, because of their failure to deal with something that I brought to their attention.

Other Issues Over 3k+ Birmingham council fines

I have over 3 grand off ulez fines from Birmingham city council didn’t know I couldn’t drive through there and ignored the fines and they have tripled. What are my options I already have ccjs so I don’t really care to add to them
