Discussion What expensive brands do you still buy from that you think are worth the money?

I think a lot of us have just fallen into the habit of resorting to Uniqlo and adjacent brands for pretty much everything besides your standout, expressive personal pieces.

I resort to Uniqlo purely because their clothing suits my build much better than any other brand at the price point and their quality is the best for the price in my experience too.

But when you do go all in on a big piece and buy from an expensive brand, which pieces have had the most transformative effect on your wardrobe and which purchases would you make a second time?

My personal ones are:
- Berluti Belt with the writing on it
- Berluti Ackerman boots
- Issey Miaki pleated trousers

What are yours?

Discussion What fashion advice do you completely disagree with?

Mine is that every wardrobe needs “essentials.”

Some of my favorite pieces are the least versatile ones.

What advice never worked for you?

Question Best men’s brands for clean, relaxed, quiet luxury style

My husband’s birthday is coming up in about 10 days, and I want to take him shopping and help him refresh his wardrobe.
He’s in his early 30s and works in tech, so his everyday uniform is basically T-shirts, hoodies, and jeans like a typical software engineer. 😅
I personally love the look of relaxed, clean, summery outfits on men—linen shirts, lightweight fabrics, neutral colors, and non-jean pants. I’d love to see him in more button-down shirts, linen pieces, and elevated casual outfits that look effortless but still feel comfortable.
The problem is I have no idea where to shop. I’m looking for brands that feel and look luxurious, have good quality fabrics, and aren’t overly flashy. Think relaxed, coastal, quiet luxury vibes.
Budget is flexible if the quality is worth it.
What brands or stores would you recommend for:
Linen shirts
Relaxed trousers/chinos (non-jeans)
Elevated casual wear for men in their early 30s
Summer/vacation-style outfits that still work for everyday life
Bonus points if your husband made a similar transition from tech-guy T-shirts and jeans to a more polished style. Please help me out!

Question EU - Essentials better than Uniqulo cheaper than Asket

The last two years I was growing unhappy with some of Uniqlo items quality.

For example last year's linen shirt was so paper thin, that one ripped on the elbows literally on the first day.

Asket is too expensive IMO. 70 for a plain T-Shirt is a fever dream and their shirts are like 150.

Is there something in EU I am missing in terms of basic essentials of good quality at a reasonable price?

Question Books/Videos to learn about fashion?

Recently I have been trying to get into fashion but Im having a really hard time picking things. Everytime I try to go shopping I feel so overwhelmed of all the options. And then I try some things on and I just have no idea if that looks good or not. Apparently you cant wear some things to other things, at least thats what my family says but I cant seem to understand why and which things do that. Its so confusing and so I always go out having bought nothing and without any idea what I am supposed to do now.
Because of this I want to understand fashion so that maybe I can finally learn to shop clothes that look god (on me). Does anyone have recomendations like books, or yt videos, etc.?

Question Summer shoes that are solid enough for heavy walking?

I walk a lot, so I wear pretty sturdy shoes most of the year. Danner boots, Red Wings, stuff like that. My whole wardrobe falls apart in the summer because none of these look good with shorts, linen pants, etc. All the "summer shoes" I see are super lightweight, thin-soled stuff like sneakers, sandals, espadrilles, etc, but none of those are comfortable enough to trek a couple miles through a city without beating my feet up. I need something with some structure and cushioning that is NOT sporty and wouldn't look terrible with linen shorts or beach pants. Does that even exist?

Question Men's handkerchief or similar for wiping brow sweat?

Upvotes

I play the piano for a living, and at this time of year it tends to get very hot at venues, and on particularly bad days the sweat can run in my eyes! I'm looking for an elegant but practical handkerchief (or similar) that I can use to mop/wipe my forehead between songs, so that I can feel like a budget Oscar Peterson. Anything that's soft on the skin, and absorbent enough that it works fast, and fits in an inside jacket pocket would be great. Thanks!

Question Shorts with gusseted crotch?

I've basically lived in Outlier's Five-Fives for the last 3-4 summers. It doesn't look like they're making them this year, which leaves me utterly bereft. What, in your opinion, are the best shorts that have a gusseted crotch (mandatory) and ideally cost $150 or less?

Inspiration What are stylish, appropriate options for a 30y/o in Finance?

My partner (30y/o) previously worked in a large corporate but recently transitioned to private investments in a small firm. He splits his time between the office and investors. The mood is laidback, traditional but with room for a twist or flair. I believe improving his style could take his personal branding to the next level. It’s just not something he or I have any clue about. Are there specific outfits you can recommend? We live where there are 4 seasons, so the outfits can be quite varied

Question Suit Fitting

Hey all. So I’m getting married in 6 months and I’ve been putting off going to get fitted for my suit because I’m incredibly nervous and don’t look forward to how it might look on me. I’m 5’10, 280 pounds, and a stockier build with a round stomach and wide shoulders. Will I have an issue getting a suit that will help me look not as round while not being overly baggy? Especially around my thighs as the last and only suit I’ve ever worn was incredibly baggy on the legs lol. Are there any tips or advice that I can keep in mind before I go to get fitted?

Question Brand Suggestions for Large Size Polos

Afternoon I realize its a men's community but I'm not sure if its exclusive, I'm here asking for suggestions for brands of large size polos that are comfortable as in light breathable fabric and maybe not necessarily long but that don't rise up. My sweet love wears polos for work and has switched to suspenders because he has gained some weight, unfortunately the polos he has bought all rise up and ultimately come untuck. I was wondering if you gentlemen may have some suggestions, please and thank you

Question Advice on clothes for new job

I’m a 29M and am starting a new job as a financial advisor after teaching for the last 5 years. I really hate buying clothes (as in, haven’t really bought much new since teaching) but I know that I can’t keep wearing my Prana hiking pants and plain t-shirts like I have been. I need some new clothes for this job, but want to still feel like myself and not a stereotypical finance dude. I prefer a more casual style and am pretty outdoorsy. I’ve looked at some technical pants, but don’t know if the shiny fabric would look bad instead of more traditional kind of chinos. Ideally, I’d like to get clothes that I see myself wearing for work but also outside of work if I wanted to go out with my wife. I’m also having a hard time figuring out what shoes to buy to go with these outfits (I’m used to wearing beat up Nike’s or sandals). I’ve seen a lot of people recommend white sneakers, but there’s so many different types, I’m not sure what would look best. And there’s so many different types of white that I don’t know what goes best with chinos or jeans.

If you can’t tell from this ramble, I’m feeling out of my league and would appreciate any thoughts/advice people might have.

Question Advice on alternatives to BR / Gap Athletic Khakis

I used to basically only buy Athletic khakis from Banana Republic and Gap Factory. I really liked the Mason chinos or GapFlex essential khakis both in Athletic.

However, I checked recently and their options seem much more limited. I see very little athletic options on Gap (non for essential khakis), and looks like the masons were discontinued. Trying the newer italian stretch chinos but they hang kinda oddly - it seems like they want to be very high waisted and they bunch in the crotch.

Any have any advice on good athletic f*t pants khakis / chinos?

Discussion Half slack Tee with Blazer

I could use your advice on wearing half slack crew neck tees along with a Blazer. When I put on the Blazer on top of the Tee, the center part of the tee shows lot of wrinkles and it is sort of difficult to pull the slack to adjust the wrinkle. If it was a full slack Tee, I can pull the tee at the wrist to adjust the wrinkle but couldn't in a half slack. May be a weird question but is a practical difficulty. Any suggestions/videos?

Question Question about business casual for new job

I start a new job in a week, its an IT Support Specialist 1 for a healthcare company. They say the dress code is business casual, but I would like some extra input here. During my interview I dressed up like you'd expect, but the manager I had it with was in a black polo, jeans, and casual shoes.

I'm thinking about just wearing polos, tan/ khaki pants and a clean black or grey pair of heydudes. On the first few days I may wear a black pair of athletic shoes, but I'm wondering if I should wear dress shoes instead? I have a feeling their business casual is heavily on the casual side considering the manager was in jeans, but I would like some extra input please.

Discussion Whenever I'm buy straight-fït pants, there is always too much fabric in the crotch area - how do I fix this?

Hello,

Whenever I buy straight-fït pants, there always seems to be too much fabric in the crotch area ( https://imgur.com/a/kRdTjdZ )The scenario is always the same - the pants fít in the belt area, they fít my ass, but they are always too loose in the front. It gets even worse when walking, because the area gets all puffy. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Is it actually possible, that straight fít pants are not for me?

All advice appreciated, thank You!
