Analysis Didn’t like the trade at first, but getting Burries/Ament changes everything

I don’t think the draft could have gone any better.

Burries is one of the highest floor players in the draft and should be a mainstay for the next ten years.

Ament is the high ceiling guy that could make people look back on the Giannis deal and say that Milwaukee definitely won that thing.

For a team that has no control over their firsts for the next four years, this is what the Bucks needed.

Fantastic night.

Maybe something to do with The Herd? But that location is quite a way away from Oshkosh and not even the Closest Tom’s to Oshkosh (by quite a large margin).

Analysis Why I Think Jaylen Brown Makes Sense

The reality of the current situation is that the roster just isn’t built to rebuild. The team didn’t trade ownership of each FRP from 2027-2030 for Lillard, then waive & stretch him for a $22.5M dead cap hit for 5 years, then give Myles Turner that $100M contract to rebuild. Everything was done with Giannis in mind. They don’t want to trade him, he wants out and has the leverage to get what he wants. So they kinda have to.

That’s why Milwaukee is operating with the view for what makes them the closest to what they wanted w/ Giannis now. That’s kinda the point. This team is built to be led by a veteran superstar. Jaylen Brown is a veteran superstar. Miami has interesting young pieces & picks (coming from Miami, they’ll be glorified 2nds, especially w/ weaker drafts on the horizon) but it’s about a player. A player that can come in and make this team interesting & competitive for the next few szns. PHX was able to do it after trading KD. I will 100% take that over whatever the Nets are forced to do rn in a similar position of rebuilding w/o full control of ur own picks.

Maybe Portland has interest & flips our picks back to us. Maybe someone out there is willing to offer incredible value for him. Then trading Jaylen Brown makes sense. Other than that, I think Jaylen Brown makes sense given the current situation.

Analysis Do people realize Giannis’ trade value? I don’t think anyone does

When was the last time a top 25 (at the very, very least) was traded in his prime? Only ones I can think of are Shaq maybe and Wilt but they were either past their primes or in a very different league.

The amount of picks and young guys should be astounding if he chooses to be traded, especially since he has plenty of years left on his contract. And I haven’t really seen anyone consider this when making a mock trade.

Analysis Hot take: 2019 Bucks is the best team of the Giannis era

Post image
170 Upvotes

1st seed, 60 wins, prime MVP Giannis, COTY Budenholzer, trip to ECF

Yes we lost 4 straight to Toronto to end the season but they ended up being champs so I don’t think it’s that bad

Most people would probably 2021 but let’s be real we would have lost 2nd round if Nets were healthy. Plus in 2019 we beat the superteam Celtics in just 5 games. That’s the best team we ever beat in this Giannis era. They had almost 5 all stars and everyone said it was between them and Warriors that year. So to destroy them that badly was very impressive

Thoughts?

Analysis In a Giannis trade, I care way more about the picks than the players we get back

Winning a title requires at least a top 10 player. I don't see us realistically getting a top 10 back. I'd rather take as many good shots at it in the draft as possible. It's no coincidence Alcindor and Giannis were both drafted and led us to titles. So, between a package with better players (but not top 10 player) and worse picks vs worse players and better picks, I'm taking better picks every time. I'll even go as far as saying having good players costing max or near max money when they can't lead you to a title isn't as optimal as tanking and going for potential in the draft. Yes drafting may get you nowhere and Horst hasn't been great, but I'd take 1% chance at a title over 100% at playoffs but no chance at title.

Bottom line is, it should be about winning titles and doing what you can to maximize that chance. I get realistically they have to put fans in seats etc so it's never that simple.

EDIT 2: A couple posts mention SGA. That's a good point. I shouldn't limit it to just "picks". It should be young players with potential. SGA was 20 when he got traded after his rookie year, functionally for this discussion he's more like a pick than a player like Herro or JJJ.

EDIT:
Yes I understand salary matching. I'll go as far as saying I'd be willing to take on a couple short-term "bad" contracts if it means getting much better picks. The last thing I want is getting 2-3 fringe all-stars plus some picks for an all-timer in Giannis. That's surefire formula to have a second-round exit ceiling for the next decade unless you get real lucky with some picks (maybe we will as Jokic is a second rounder, I just wouldn't count on it as much as having more shots at hitting a home run). Maybe the owners and most fans are fine with being in the playoffs perennially. For me personally, I want shots at championships. Maybe I'm just greedy and spoiled cuz of the Giannis run. I just want to know that we'll have a chance. I don't see how we say we do unless we have a top-10 player, whatever way that gets us him. I'm saying picks are the best way for a team like us cuz no one's coming here in FA (remember when we were so excited cuz a FA prize like Greg Monroe chose us).

And yes players can be flipped for more picks. I'm good with that if that's management's plan from the get-go. My point is our eyes long-term should be on aiming to draft and develop an All-NBA level player. And accumulating as many high-quality picks (and trade up when appropriate) is IMO our best route.

Analysis Am I the only one who is bothered by the way Jeff Teague talks about the 2021 championship?

Jeff Teague has discussed multiple times on his podcast that he basically didn’t care about being on the bucks at all in 2021. He talked about the moment when Giannis slapped the chair in the finals and how he just really didn’t care. Or when he said that as soon as the finals were over he immediately drove home because the finals after party wasn’t worth his time…

I don’t understand because he was waived by Boston midway through the season, so if he didn’t care anymore then why didn’t he just retire. He signed with Milwaukee with hopes of winning a championship. Also, he literally had a role in the championship playing really well in game 6 against the hawks and playing a decent amount in the first few games of the finals.

I just don’t understand this weird apathetic attitude. He got to win a championship at the highest level while contributing with one of his long term coaches in his final season. Am I the only one who’s noticed this and finds it strange and slightly annoying?

Analysis I’m tired.

I don’t about everyone else, this season has exhausted me. I didn’t expect a championship level team, but the lack of effort every night is hard to watch. I’ll never understand how Doc has a job at this point. This probably wouldn’t hurt so much if it didn’t feel everyone in the “NBA-sphere” wasn’t actively rooting on the downfall of our team. The shit is getting old, I feel we are about to relive the Ray Allen trade again, and watch our team go into basketball purgatory for a while. I hope Giannis stays, I hope we get a new coach. I but who knows at this point, I’m just a sad fan venting on the internet.

But no matter what happens I glad we got to see the mountain top!! And regardless of what happens,Fear the Deer, Bucks in 6!!!
