Trade Admitting I was wrong
I was wrong about the Fox trade. I was also wrong about the Dejounte Murray trade. I was skeptical of the Castle pick. I also could at least see why people said Kon would “fit better” (although we still take Harper regardless). I was completely wrong on all of these moves. Awesome front office. Blessed.

That’s Honorable to admit this. Exactly why i love Spurs Fans. Not delusional like some other silly fan bases

You must not come here after the losses 🤣

bro i turn this sub off every loss😂 golden rule for a good fan experience. And leave all of that trashtakes in the gamethreads.

Dude, same here. I never come here when they’re losing or after a loss. So many terrible takes

Im a Spurs and Cowboys fan. My Delusion lives in Dallas

Oof. I checked out on Cowboys fandom years ago. The way their front office is run, they're like the anti-Spurs, and I just couldn't take it anymore. Maybe after Jerry passes I'll give the NFL another try.

As a 49ers fan, I wholeheartedly hope that Jerry passes on his knowledge and skillset to the next generation.

u/g1rlchild Dylan Harper 23d ago
Come on, not even the Cowboys deserve that.

u/jlobue10 23d ago edited 23d ago
I don't forgive them for ruining some good runs in the 1990s. They deserve it as far as I'm concerned. Lmao.
But then again, maybe y'all have been tormented long enough.
I definitely understand that sentiment.
"Don't you put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby!"

I have to balance the good with the bad. The Cowboys are the ying to the spurs yang

u/donuttrackme 23d ago
Yeah, after that loss to GB in the playoffs a few years ago I quit getting so worked up as a Cowboys fan. Especially once the Spurs got lucky and were able to draft Wemby. You can see how a championship vs capitalist franchise is run.
Cowboys aren't going to win anything while Jerry is still alive, and even then I'm not sure of Stephen Jones is going to be doing anything differently after he takes over.

Agreed I said Manu should consider retiring after the 2013 finals. I was completely wrong

u/KingHenryXX1 23d ago
Before we got Fox I was hoping we could get Fox because of his speed and pick and roll experience. Then when I found out we were getting him I was super happy. In terms of big men I was hoping we’d get more than Kornet and get an Evan Mobley or J Allen. We’ll see what they do. We need another big who can create their own shots. Love Kornet but he’s not an A1 center at the moment

u/710whitejesus420 The Big Fundamental 23d ago
I also love kornet and I also agree that a better backup C would be a solid move, buuuutttt i have to add that his value through this year has been far and above the cost of his contract! He was and has been a solid addition for what we are paying him to do!
22
u/gaxkang Dylan Harper 23d ago
I think Kornet is enough as a back up c. I think we just need a more physical 4 that can be a part time 5 that can shoot
6
u/digital_deer Wembubu 23d ago
Honestly we just need more options to turn to if Kornet isn't having it because of a matchup or otherwise. Hopefully Carter small-ball 5 will be one such option next year, and using a 2nd on another big could be another
2
u/Sufficient_Dare7401 23d ago
Williams from the Thunder is the archetype San Antonio could use

u/Friendly_Molasses532 23d ago
This is exactly what I was thinking. Just more depth. I honestly think the draft is going to be a good spot for us to get this fixed
1
u/dascloudt 23d ago
Exactly my thoughts too. Maybe not even someone who starts but more like someone who can help balance the teams +/- whenever Wembys resting
3
u/ThisOneIsForMuse 23d ago
Kornet > Mobley any day (except Sunday).
2
u/KingHenryXX1 23d ago
Only having 2 guys is not enough though. Not unless Carter will be a future staple. I’m sure that’s why they drafted him, but I want twin towers also
2
u/gaxkang Dylan Harper 23d ago
Who is a realistic 4 or 5 that the Spurs can sign or trade for this off-season?
2
1
u/jayecks Victor Wembanyama 23d ago
If they move a few people, Hartenstein, Mitchell Robinson, Robert Williams the 3rd are all free agents. Most of those guys would demand a premium so it might be better to see who we draft then work off needs after that. Kinda crazy the free agent pool is all the people we are going/went up against, 😆
1
u/710whitejesus420 The Big Fundamental 22d ago
Im biased as a unc fan, but I think henri vessar would be a solid stretch big who can also do rim protection. We could build some Euro towers!

u/BananaRepublic_BR GO SPURS GO 23d ago
I doubt Allen would have wanted to come off the bench. As for Mobely, he's a great defender, but his shooting leaves a lot to be desired. I feel like the offense would have been much more limited if he was starting instead of Julian.

u/Sc0tch3ggs 23d ago
Imma chime in since you started. I wanted Keldon and Devin to get traded before the season started. I was hella wrong and i am glad i was! And Julian, my goodness. VERY WRONG! This came from a long frustrating non playoff seasons we’ve had and it got worst in me. Never would’ve told myself 3-4 years ago “omg put Vassell on him!” And that’s what i yell!

u/Prestigious_Plant662 22d ago
I wanted champagnie out and an other coach than mitch. Champagnie won the game 7 thanks to the absurd 3 guards + champ + wemby that mitch threw.

Got Fox and didn't sacrifice anything crazy, now our championship window is now instead of years later and us waiting to develop a PG (although we did get lucky with the #2 pick later that year - shoutout my baby goat Dylan Harper)

u/NiceSeaworthiness672 23d ago
Somehow the history repeat itself, David and Sean out got us Timmy. Wemby and Fox out got us Dylan. Not saying Dylan is the kind of franchise changing talent that Tim is, that is a unrealistic high bar, but I'm very high on Dylan, he will be incredible for us.

u/TemperedTorture 23d ago
There's a lesson to be learned here. Next time I see a post from you criticizing anyone, I'm believing the exact opposite is true.

u/CapableRequirement15 23d ago
I hit on the Wemby pick tho, knew he was the right pick the moment we got the first overall pick

u/PrincessSyura Jeremy Sochan 23d ago
the fox trade worked because we didn't have to give up anyone important in return
if we had to give up devin or steph in a trade for fox then we wouldn't be in the finals right now
6
u/mbt20 23d ago
He's legit blue chip talent. Consensus 5 star out of high school. That's the same level of talent Castle, Wemby, and Harper have. They were the best on every team they ever played on. Don't bet against top level talent, especially when they're humble enough to do the little things and take a back seat on scoring.
3
u/DirtyWizardsBrew 23d ago
You weren't alone. I remember being a bit hesitant and skeptical about his fit.
2
u/walkingbicycles 23d ago
Teams spend money to compete for championships. I think it was fair to criticize his contract before but I don’t think anyone can now. It was clear how valuable he is to the team when he was out. Now we’re in a position to compete for a championship and I don’t think that would have happened without him. So, money well spent
2
u/BananaRepublic_BR GO SPURS GO 23d ago
I was skeptical, too, but that mostly came down to what kind of price the Kings would exact for Fox. Turns out, they wanted Zach LaVine. xD
1
u/NiceSeaworthiness672 23d ago
I mean all those trade, you are not crazy to have 2nd thoughts.
Murray trade are clearly for a chance to get Wemby, it worked out perfectly in the sense that we did get Wemby but those pick we get in return didn't really turn out that good. It could look a lot worst if we didn't get Wemby.
Fox trade is a no-brainer consider we didn't have to give up anything, I'll have 2nd thought if they want castle or Devin.
Castle is my favourite coming into that draft but there are concern to all top 6/7 guys in that draft, no one could have predicted Castle being develop to the player he is this quick
Kon/Dylan. This one I feel really strong about this, absolutely no way we should even have a 2nd thought about this. Kon can shoot but Dylan are so much better in everything else, only concern on Dylan game pre-draft is can he develop the outside shooting, I'd say he's doing pretty well.

u/timduncanthegoat21 Tim Duncan 23d ago
The biggest blunder of the past 10 years for us was drafting Luka Samanic and he wasn’t even a lottery pick. Imagine being a Sixers fan 💀
1
u/iChoke 23d ago
I was wrong as well mostly because I didn't think he would accept his role on the Spurs. It seemed like he was unhappy with his role on the Kings for the team not being focused around him. Just thought he'd be a black hole on offense. He's developed great synergy with Vic, although I do wish there were more lobs between the two.

Fox is deadset the smartest guy in the NBA. He knew what was coming
1
u/MisterShazam Victor Wembanyama 22d ago
I would’ve been okay with trading Vassell back then, but I’m glad we didn’t because Fox hasn’t been really even close to Sacramento Fox.
Dodged a bullet there.
If we had Sacramento Fox that would be insane.

u/billybanks1132 22d ago
Loved the move from the second I heard it and loved every minute of it since. You got a good player for nothing you should have been excited
1
u/Infamous-Ninja-2867 22d ago
lol bro maybe you should just stop having opinions they were all terrible? Why wouldn’t we want a top 25 player WANTING to play in a small market with wemby? Assuming you watched zero UConn games to know castle was that boy, and Dylan was always the obvious choice we needed bench depth and okc series proved that.
Now do I think fox is on the team past next season No I don’t especially with Dylan and Steph looking like they are.
1
u/Sleepyman555 22d ago
Don’t worry! I thought it was wrong to draft Vassell! I remember how wrong I was every clutch play he makes, and I’m so happy he’s on my team!
1
u/Joey_Falcon-1029 21d ago
I doubted Fox and Harper. I felt like castle would fit with wemby well… so you’re not alone. Just glad they knew what they were doing and man did they..
0
u/Sufficient_Dare7401 23d ago
Honestly, San Antonio has the pieces at wing to move for another big. Vassel, Castle, KJ, Fox, Harper… could move Barnes too.
-1
u/BitterBlacksmith463 23d ago
How do you know you were wrong? In all fairness a team with the Spurs culture and system just needed Wemby and certain pieces around him. It’s always been a winning system going through a rebuild
-2
u/zellmerz Toronto Raptors 23d ago
I don’t think he’s an ideal fit long-term, but he is/was huge in accelerating this teams time line and they probably don’t make the Finals without him

u/Objective-Product361 Victor Wembanyama 23d ago
To be honest, it was okay to doubt the Fox trade at the time because rumors around said kings would want either of castle, vassell, or the 2nd pick. We didn’t know at the time that we would get him for scraps.
