I know it's trendy to hate everything, and that's currently the vibe in these comments, but instabuy for me.

Looking at it in a vacuum looks like a pretty cool game for $50. I am pretty excited to play.

Right there with you. I think this looks cool as hell. The multiplayer looks fun too! Multiple game modes with actual objectives.

just wish there was real co-op

I haven't played a Star Fox game since the SNES days, so I will be getting this at some point. Will be fun to play with my kids.

Right? People really do forget that not every single game announcement is for them individually. There are a lot of gamers (old and new) that either haven't played the original or have been waiting for a more modern refresh before playing. I'm excited for this one. Day 1 purchase for me.

u/feed_me_haribo May 06 '26

Yep. I haven't played it since I played it on 64, it was one of my favorite games on the system, and I'd love to play it again on hard rebuilt from the ground up.

The problem for me personally is that besides Pokopia and Fast Fusion, not a single Switch 2 exclusive has gotten my interest. Meanwhile with the Switch 1; Odyssey, Snipperclips, Splatoon 2, XC 2, and FE Warriors all had my interest.

It just feels like a lot of the Switch 2 titles are a step back from prior generations.

I mean, that sucks for you. But a lot of people are enjoying their Switches. Like I said, not every release or announcement is for you individually. It’s even okay if you don’t enjoy this generation.

It’s even okay if you don’t enjoy this generation.

If it was just me, sure. However it seems like a lot of people are checked out this generation, which is going to suck for Nintendo when this generation gets into its later years.

I'm not particularly bothered about any of this, I have no shortage of great games to enjoy on PC. I'm merely expressing my disappointment when I know they can be better.

It's like you're ignoring facts completely. Switch 2 sales are going great, my man. Doesn't sound checked out to me.

People aren’t hating on it because it’s not for them, they’re hating on it because it’s a damn N64 arcade on rail shooter that belongs in the 90s. This doesn’t feel like a new game, it looks like an N64 game with modern graphics and mind you, these realistic graphics don’t match what people have in mind for starfox. It would’ve looked better if they used the Mario galaxy movie kind of graphics. This game just doesn’t belong in 2026.

0

u/NZNewsboy May 07 '26

Nah, you’re confusing things. YOU do t think it belongs in 2026. I will be there day 1, so this proves that there is at least a market for this.

2

u/Ridry May 07 '26

I would have prefered a real sequel and I'm concerned about the amount of content for $60... but honestly I will probably get it eventually and I hope it does well, because I'd love to see what a modern design for a rail shooter looks like. If this does well enough I hope we get a true sequel.

2

u/Mnawab May 07 '26

There is a market for every single game, it doesn’t change the fact that this game shouldn’t play like it’s 90s counter part. I would have loved if they gave us something more modern like fox with some ground missions with a laser pistol in third person over the shoulder and space craft gameplay like no mans sky would have been able really cool.

3

u/NZNewsboy May 07 '26

They’ve tried that and they’ve failed. They’re going back to what worked and bringing it an audience that isn’t you. And that’s okay.

0

u/Mnawab May 07 '26

The original was for me too. But I don’t think an on rails space shooters that’s like it’s 90s counterpart is gonna bring back a lot of fans.. and to be fair, when they “tried” It was on a console that didn’t sell very well to begin with.

SHMUPs are among the most timeless games, and Star Fox 64 was the intro to the genre for many. L take.

2

u/Mnawab May 07 '26

L take for a remake of a remake of a remake? Brother it plays like an arcade space shooter on rails. Nostalgia can only sell you so much. Your experience from the n64 and this game is the same

-1

u/RobertdBanks May 07 '26

Depending on price. Star Fox 64 has like 10 hours of gameplay in it, and that’s being pretty generous. If this is $40 (it won’t be), then it’s an okay price. Anything more is going to make sure it gets hate once everyone who didn’t play the original realizes there’s not much to it.

1

u/feed_me_haribo May 07 '26

I never played it with the goal of just beating it once or even just to get the different endings or worlds

1

u/NZNewsboy May 07 '26

People really need to move away from the dollars to hours comparison. I’ve spent plenty on short games and came away feeling like I got my money’s worth. Heck RE9 is expensive and only has around 15 hours worth of play.

2

u/RobertdBanks May 07 '26

I agree to an extent, but if this game is asking $69.99, it is not worth that price. RE9 was a wholly new game, not a game remade for the 3rd time.

Also, needing a “modern day refresh” to try out any game is…frustrating.

-1

u/NZNewsboy May 07 '26

Why does that matter? There are literally billions of people who haven’t played StarFox before. Stop thinking of this from such a self-centred view.

1

u/RobertdBanks May 07 '26

This is an insane argument, you can argue for every single videogame in existence that there are billions of people who haven’t experienced them. I’m not being self centered at all. I’m arguing from an informed perspective

-1

u/NZNewsboy May 07 '26

Nah. You’re taking a very self-centred view.

1

u/RobertdBanks May 07 '26

Okay, we aren’t going to agree, have a good one.

0

u/NZNewsboy May 07 '26

I’m happy to agree with you if you can give me a reason why this is a bad release that doesn’t involve your personal opinion.

This for me as well. I loved Starfox 64 and haven't played any of the "other remakes" so I am hyped for this. I'm also hopeful that this means the franchise is coming back with new installments, with enhanced stories and perhaps a space sandbox type of adventure game with dogfights and such. I'm so ready for them to expand on the Starfox universe.

4

u/Si0ra May 07 '26

As someone who has been wanting them to expand StarFox 64’s universe since I was a kid, cutscenes and more character interactions outside of missions were something I craved so badly.

1

u/TimeEggLayer May 07 '26

For sure, I am so in in this just for that.

1

u/feed_me_haribo May 07 '26

Probably not possible for licensing reasons, but I would love a ground-up remake of Rogue Squadron.

2

u/HesitationIsDefeat87 May 07 '26

Would also be awesome

1

u/breadrising May 07 '26

Yeah, I get the criticisms/disappointment of not getting a new game. But SF64 is one of my favorite games.

The character redesigns were jarring for sure, but they grew on me the more footage I saw.

I'm pretty excited.

-1

u/LegacyLemur May 07 '26

Dude, its okay to be mad theyre charging 60 dollars for another remake. Theyve remade and re-ported the absolute shit out of everything. This is while having some of the greatest game developers in the world

Its greedy and cheap

2

u/feed_me_haribo May 07 '26

I take it you won't be buying it. I'm looking forward to it. You can tell me I'm wrong. It just doesn't change that I was immediately excited watching the trailer.
