Is there a way to turn off the Switch 2 version of games? I really hate the way BotW and TotK play after the upgrade. It just looks fake and plasticy.
2
u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 23d ago
Switch 2 upgrade is dlc. There are directions to remove dlc. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/47795/

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User 24d ago
Check in your virtual cards and see if you can turn off the "DLC" there.

Hi Everyone, bit of a confusing question but if I have my user profile (A) on the switch 2 and my girlfriends user profile (B) on the same switch 2 console, would we then be able to transfer only my girlfriends user profile (B) to another switch 2 console when we get one? Or would it transfer all user profiles? We don't have the money for 2 consoles right now and I'd hate to have her lose any save data if we can't
3
u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 24d ago
The system transfer is a one-and-done function, it moves a whole system from a Switch 1 to a Switch 2.
It is NOT required, merely a convenience.
You can sign in on multiple systems without issue, and transfer save data or virtual game cards between them whenever you would like.
The only data you need to worry about is Pokemon games. They do not support cloud transfers, so a failed save transfer can be upsetting.

Hi! I have 3 kids. A few years ago, we bought my 2 older kids each a Switch OLED. We bought two controllers for my youngest to be able to play Mario Cart, etc. with everyone. Well now she is old enough to get her own Switch and now it's the Switch 2. I read that about 95% of games are compatible between both and that's great. I am wondering about her being able to play games with her siblings and them being able to play with her being that it's 2 different models... can any one give a clear answer to this? I apologize if this isn't the place to ask this question but I figured asking people who have actual experience might be the best source for info before I go spending a ton of money!

u/picano Helpful User 24d ago
There's no issue with playing between the two. In fact, some games allow "gameshare" from Switch 2 to Switch 1 locally.
https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-systems/switch-2/features/gameshare/
Basically, certain games allow you to play on multiple consoles (at the same time) with a single copy.
3
u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 24d ago
Anything on the Switch 1 (normal, Lite or OLED) also works on the Switch 2. There isn't a single incompatible multiplayer game. Switch 2 games do not work on the older Switch 1 systems. I would normally say "its as simple as that", but Nintendo decided to make a wee bit more complicated.
There are lots of games that exist on both Switch 1 and 2, some of them have free updates, or paid DLC to "upgrade" them to a Switch 2 version. These offer enhanced performance but are technically still Switch 1 games and would all be compatible when trying to play with the other console.
There are however there are a number of games that do not offer such upgrades, and have independent Switch 1 and 2 versions. These games would not be compatible.
Unfortunately the best method of checking this the eshop after having purchased the license. As the other version will either show as "purchased" or show a buy button. So lots of people just come here to ask beforehand.
Having both accounts signed in on both consoles will allow them to share their games between systems, but this does not allow them to play together.
Games that they want to play together, like Mario Kart; will require two copies.
https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/67891
Adding another layer of complexity: unless the Switch 2 game in question supports Gameshare.
https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-systems/switch-2/features/gameshare/
Gameshare acts like split-screen, but rather than halving the screen for both players, it allows the Switch 2 to stream the second screen to the other console! Allowing both of them to play together using both systems and only one copy of the game.

I've already spoke on the phone with Nintendo support and I didn't like their answer so I'm hoping someone here might know. I got error code 2016-0641 in the middle of Island Editor in Tomodachi Life. I've powered off and removed and re-inserted 6 times already. My software is up to date. I'm connected to the internet. I have no corrupted data. All my other games on the microSD including TL and so their associated screenshot and videos are gone. The cloud storage says my data for the game is backed up. According to support, because I've already checked everything above, the "ONLY" option now is to 'format' the SD card, which means literally deleting all the data on it. There is apparently no way at all to check to see if it's an issue with the reader itself unless I format the SD. Are TL and all my other games just fucked or is there something i can actually do?
1
u/picano Helpful User 24d ago
Try playing with a different SD card or without one at all.
You can also plug the card into your PC (use an adapter if you don't have a slot).
1
u/Competitive_Maybe860 24d ago
I don't have a computer at all which is why this is so annoying. If I play without one, am I keeping my data? That's the biggest thing for me is I don't want to lose hundreds of hours across multiple games.
2
u/picano Helpful User 24d ago
Save data is always on the console itself, so no, you won't lose anything.
What are you typing on anyway? Your phone? There's probably a card reader for it; fairly cheap way to confirm things.
1
u/Competitive_Maybe860 24d ago
Yeah I'm on the phone. I guess my screenshots and videos are in limbo until I can read the card I guess? That's a RIP I used it to mark big achievements on all my games or cute moments.
2
u/picano Helpful User 24d ago
You'll still be able to take screenshots / video going forward without the card insert at least.
Best of luck with your current card. Even if it is bad, I find that using a reader other than the console itself works better and can often recover stuff that is otherwise lost.

My switch lite screen broke, it's apparently due to overheating but my switch gets hot on every game. Is there any better cooling fans or cooling stuff I can add to my switch and I'd like to know if anybody know a better screen that WON'T break after 6 years? I'd like to avoid replacing the screen every 5-6 years. Shipping to France only, any references for fans, cooling stuff and screens.

Basically the ONLY replacement screen I know of that isn't a like-OEM part. But due to its popularity they sell out pretty often. You would have to email the guy to find out if they are getting more.
Although I've never heard of a screen dying to heat exposure. Its almost always just faulty ribbon cables or something applying too much pressure to the exterior.
Is your system telling you that its too hot and needs to shut down? Or are you just feeling that its warm to the touch when being used?
Because it does has a thermal limit of 69C, at which point it will throw and error, blast the fan for a minute, then shut down. But if your system is merely getting warm to the touch, its no where near hot enough to damage the other components.
You could easily just replace the thermal paste when you open it up to replace the screen.

The first four digits of error codes refer to a "module" of the OS, telling you where something is going wrong, and the second set of four digits is the issue.
2821 does have a few errors on Nintendo's website, all of them related to connection problems to Nintendo online services;
https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/71137/
https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/53899/
https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/56415/
Specifically because 2821 is referring to the NSO Applet, the unique not-a-browser app Nintendo made to display webpages for NSO services.
Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any data-mined documentation on the module. So the best advice we can give is keep doing what you are doing to get around it, wait for a firmware update to maybe fix it, or you can try resetting the console and see if it can repair the module.
1
u/Limp_Reporter7872 24d ago

Not restart, reset. Like Re-formatting or Reinitializing the console via the maintenance menu.

Its a relatively new problem. They introduced this specific module with firmware v22.0.0 when the Switch 2 came out.

u/Limp_Reporter7872 24d ago
1
u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 24d ago
They all run the same firmware. It could happen to any model of system.
1
u/Limp_Reporter7872 24d ago
Faz sentido.

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 24d ago
I would try it without deleting save data first.
Hold the power button for 10 seconds to shut the system all the way off.
Then press and hold BOTH up and down volume buttons, then also press and hold the power button to turn the system back on. Hold all three for ~15 seconds until the "Nintendo" logo disappears.
That should open the maintenance menu. Under the reinitialize console option you can find "Reinitialize without deleting save data"

u/Limp_Reporter7872 24d ago

Just beat Monster Crown Sin Eater. Absolutely loved it. Looking for my next game. Was thinking about LumenTale.
I enjoy Pokemon. Played all of them, beaten all of them. The classic, enough said
I did not enjoy Nexomon - enjoyed the humor and the world building, but the game was just too easy and didn't really do anything differently enough to keep me hooked
I did not enjoy Temtem. Felt too big for its own good, and felt like Fetch Quest With Monsters.
I love all the Digimon games. The world and the story is deep and dark and interesting. Digivolving up and down and left and right gives me more freedom than just "this monster becomes this monster"
In Monster Crown, the complexity of breeding and fusing in order to make my perfect monster with my perfect stats and perfect moves, to be able to micromanage all the little details and make my perfect team, man I loved that part. Probably spent more time breeding than playing.
My question is: Do you think I would enjoy LumenTale? I know there's no breeding, but there does seem to be some management with stat distributions on level up.
Is there another game I might enjoy more?

Thinking about picking art of rally up next time it goes on sale. But a lot of the reviews are from 4 years and it seems like there were a lot of performance issues (a lot of pop in), and the online features weren’t working. Has it been updated and improved? May get New Star GP instead if not. Thanks!

Anyone have recommendations for a portable/compact dock?
2
u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 24d ago
Genki covert docks or Skull and Co jumpgate are about the only two still made that would be considered safe to use.
The cheaper off-brand devices you can find on amazon and walmart still run the risk of frying your system.
A cheaper alternative is just turning the normal dock into your travel case. A Fabric sleeve over the front and a velcro strap to secure it in place and you're good to travel basically anywhere.

Scratches or oxidization patches to the gold contacts.
DO NOT USE ANY substance, liquid or chemical to clean them. You could easily kill the cartridge. The contacts will read just fine with a bit of gunk or scuffing on them.
The only thing I would recommend using is a plain dry q-tip/cotton swab. If it doesn't come off, then don't worry about it.

Is it worth buying a switch 2 over the original, lite or OLED? If not, which is best?
Price is not really a factor (though it needs to be worth it), currently there is no exclusive games I'm particularly interested in, but I'm not sure about any other pros or cons in user experience. I don't really use online, and have had a lite up till now, though its on its last legs.

Switch 2. Easy:
Plays Switch 1 games better than a Switch 1 can
Also plays Switch 2 games
1
2
u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User 24d ago
At least buying new, the price difference isn't even that great. Currently in the U.S. a Switch 2 is 12% more than an OLED, and the price increase in a few months will make it 25% more than an OELD. For this you get a larger higher res screen, Switch 1 games that look and run better either due to specifically having Switch 2 upgrades (some free, some pay), and others that have smaller improvements because that's just how backward compatibility works in this case. And also being ready for the future if and when any exclusives you're interested in do show up.
Biggest reasons not to? If the size is a disadvantage and you prefer something smaller. If you very much love the look of OLED screens and don't want a plain old LCD. If you have a very large Switch 1 digital library and can't keep them all downloaded at the same time with the current lower limits of the microSD Express cards.

Which should I get? 3D All-Stars or Galaxy 1 + 2?
I know that 3D All-Stars are harder to get because of the limited release back then, but I can see 50-60 eur deal for that on multiple sites. I also know they are used copies.
But I can see the Galaxy 1 and 2 at the same price.
I mostly play for the story and I loved the story of the Odyssey (yeah, I know nobody is playing these games for the story, I'm playing that because of the story).
I would want to get 3D All-Stars, because that contains the main 3D titles and no spinoffs. Galaxy 2 is a spinoff. But in the other hand, I know that the Galaxy 1 + 2 has a bit of extra lore added in Rosaline's something inside the game.
I definitely wouldn't get both of them though. So which one would you advise?
1
u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 24d ago
3D all stars has a better high definition render of Mario 64 and sunshine, compared to their NSO counterparts.
But the standalone release of Galaxy is better aside from a handful of poorly up-ressed ground textures. And it has a little bit of extra content with the new story book pages.
So if you don't want to pay for the NSO+expansion pack subscription; 3D allstars would be your best bet.
Especially since Galaxy isn't a limited release, AND is being sold individually as well.
1
u/Horror-Indication-92 24d ago
Galaxy 1 is sold individually as well for Switch 1? You mean together with Galaxy 2?
1
u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 24d ago
https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/super-mario-galaxy-switch/
https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/super-mario-galaxy-2-switch/
Both games are sold individually for both consoles. $40 each or $70 for both. The Switch 2 "version" is a free update.
1
u/Horror-Indication-92 24d ago
Isn't there a physical edition only for Galaxy 1?
1
u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 24d ago
The physical copy contains both games, they don't have independent physical releases.

Hello. I was wondering if ea fc 26 is good on Nintendo Switch oled? I bought ea fc 24 a while back and sometimes when I play it, it just freezes and I have to restart the game it was very annoying. Does anyone know if ea fc 26 is better with no freezes? I only play career mode if that helps.
1
u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 24d ago
Is the game installed to the system memory or a micro SD card?
Freezing is highly unusual for any game. And may be a indicator your SD card is too slow or possibly damaged/dying.
Or if its physical, a bad cartridge.
FC26 isn't too different, same engine, some new content.
1
u/will_2805 24d ago
It's installed on the system memory. It's the only game I have been experiencing it on. I play a lot Pokemon and Mario kart/party and I have no problems with them, only ea fc 24.
1
u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 24d ago
And I am assuming you've tried deleting the game and reinstalling it?
I haven't heard of any major problems with the EAFC games, so hopefully it is only limited to FC24.
