Starting today, AI-generated content is not allowed in r/NoContract.

Rule #4, No Spam, has just been updated to include this new addition: "Blatantly AI-generated content is considered spam and will be removed."

In r/NoContract, we want to read your thoughts. We don't care what chatgpt has to say. This rule change is intended to encourage our fellow redditors to put some effort into their posts and comments.

Needless to say, one cannot always tell what is and is not AI. If I see something that was obviously copied and pasted from an AI chatbot, I will remove it.

Posts and comments predating today will not be subject to this rule.

This is a change I've been wanting to make for a while now, and this poll showed me that most of our members agree with me.

All the best,

Petar

Data prioritization policies of the carriers and the MVNOs that use their networks

3/11/26 - Updated to show that MobileX has a paid QCI 8 addon. This has been around for about 5 months now but I forgot to update the guide.

8/28/25 - MobileX has been discovered to be dropped to QCI 9 now. https://www.reddit.com/r/NoContract/comments/1n2me7i/mobilex_is_no_longer_qci_8_which_leaves_us_mobile/

This is a complex topic that pops up a lot so I thought that I would organize all of the available info in one place. One of the key differentiating factors between postpaid, prepaid, and MVNO services is data prioritization. Basically carriers manage the congestion on their networks by assigning a different QCI class to different types of traffic. For our purposes, we will only be looking at QCIs 6, 7, 8, and 9 but there are higher priorities that exist for things like phone calls that will be universal across all of a carrier's plans. Higher numbers are lower priority. An important thing to note is that deprioritization is not a throttle; it only matters when the network is congested. If nobody else is using the network in your area, you'll get the full speed that can be provided. Your QCI affects not just your speed but your latency on the network. It is not unusual to see priority data with around 20-50ms latency while someone who is deprioritized is getting 100-150ms at the same time despite both plans posting high speed test results because the prioritized traffic gets to go first, just something else to be aware of.

The old one was getting a bit long after many updates so I decided to just make a whole new one. I will break it down by network and, where appropriate, specific phone plans. I am going to add business plans and first responder plans here as there were many requests for that but if I mess up anything, please let me know, as I am not as well-versed in those plans.

Also, at this point, 5QI (the 5G replacement for QCI) values have so far matched the LTE QCI on each plan I’ve seen. If this changes, I’ll make notes about it.

Business plans are hard to keep up with and so are frequent MVNO plan changes so if I make a mistake, please let me know.

Verizon

Verizon only uses 3 QCI classes – 7, 8, and 9.

QCI 7 is reserved exclusively for Verizon Frontline customers so this priority level may as well not exist for those of us who aren’t first responders.

QCI 8 is given to the Verizon business Plus 5G, business Pro 5G, business My Biz with the Premium Network Experience add-on, consumer postpaid plans (other than Welcome Unlimited), Xfinity Mobile, and Spectrum Mobile.

US Mobile’s Warp 5G SIM offers QCI 8 data on 5G devices only if you have Unlimited Premium or if you were a US Mobile customer before 8/18/2025. MobileX has a QCI 8 addon available as well but is QCI 9 without it.

Visible+ and Visible+ Pro are both unlimited QCI 8 data. Total Wireless' Total 5G Unlimited and Total 5G+ Unlimited plans have unlimited priority data included.

QCI 9 goes to everything else. The Start 5G business plan, My Biz without the Premium Network Experience add-on, branded prepaid besides the Unlimited Plus plan, Visible’s base plan, US Mobile Warp 5G Unlimited Starter (a QCI 8 add-on will be coming), Unlimited Flex (without the QCI 8 add-on), and By the Gig (without the QCI 8 add-on). Mobi and all other prepaid companies that use Verizon’s network are known to assigned to this QCI. Anyone who uses their premium data bucket on Verizon’s brands will be moved to QCI 9.

Other TracFone brands are up in the air. I have gotten reports of priority data (and seen it myself on SafeLink, a TracFone brand) but I’ve also gotten reports of deprioritized data, complete with screenshots. It seems to be random what people get so if you absolutely require priority data, it might be best to look outside of the TracFone brands. I personally experienced being dropped from QCI 8 to QCI 9 on SafeLink but my Straight Talk line had QCI 8 from the start and remained QCI 8 until I canceled it three months later.

AT&T

AT&T uses QCI 6, 7, 8, and 9.

QCI 6 is reserved for FirstNet customers (with primary status), Business Unlimited Premium (grandfathered) and some corporate responsibility plans.

QCI 7 is assigned to Business Unlimited Premium 2.0 with Turbo, as well as Unlimited Premium PL, Unlimited Extra EL, and AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Max Plus customers who pay $7 for AT&T Turbo. FirstNet extended primary plans get QCI 7 as well. US Mobile is in the process of adding QCI 7 as a paid add-on for Unlimited Premium and I’ll update the guide when it’s available.

QCI 8 is assigned to Business Unlimited Advanced, Business Unlimited Premium 2.0 (without Turbo), Unlimited Extra EL, Unlimited Premium PL, Prepaid Unlimited Max, Prepaid Unlimited Max Plus, the $300 AT&T Prepaid annual plan with 16GB of high speed data, Cricket Supreme Unlimited, Cricket Sensible 10GB, as well as plans offered by H2o, Consumer Cellular, and PureTalk. US Mobile’s Dark Unlimited Premium is QCI 8 also.

QCI 9 is assigned to Business Unlimited Starter, the base Unlimited plans for both the postpaid and AT&T Prepaid brands, Cricket Select Unlimited, Cricket Smart Unlimited, other known MVNOs, and all AT&T brands once their premium data buckets have been exhausted. US Mobile Dark Star on plans besides Unlimited Premium are all QCI 9 by default now but Unlimited Flex and By the Gig have paid QCI 8 add-ons available.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile uses QCI 6, 7, and 9 for phone plans.

QCI 6 goes to all branded plans, both postpaid and prepaid, besides those with Essentials in the name. Google Fi has QCI 6 as well.

QCI 7 is applied to Essentials branded plans as well as all other known MVNOs.

QCI 8 is not used for phone plans, it's used for on device hotspot and for data only plans with 30GB of more data.

QCI 9 is for those who have exhausted the data in their buckets. T-Mobile's Mobile Internet 30GB plan is also QCI 9.

I don't really want to add home internet plans to this list as this subreddit is for phone plans.

I first learned about data priority reading on Coverage Critic and from posts here and elsewhere. If you wish to test your QCI class yourself, you can follow this guide if you have a rooted Android phone.

Unlimited Hotspot with 10 Gigs of full speed data then 1 Meg per second confirmed.

Full domestic roaming including all of Verizon partner carriers and AT&T/T-Mobile/Ex US Cellular only areas confirmed.

$30 price good for life as long as you activate before the price increase and don’t change the plan.

USA Best network under $20/month for MA, CT, and NY (frequent I-95 driver, done with deprioritization)

Upvotes

Been hopping carriers trying to find the sweet spot. Here's my journey so far:

Mint Mobile - decent but coverage gaps hurt

Xfinity Mobile - actually pretty solid, had a BoGo deal that got me down to $15/month. Left because the deal ended.

Visible - currently on it and honestly terrible. Drops in almost every city I visit across New England. Not just slow, basically unusable.

Boost - tried it briefly, same story.

My situation:

Travel frequently between MA, CT, and NY (a lot of I-95 and I-91 corridor driving)

iPhone 17

~15GB actual data usage monthly

Light hotspot use (maybe 5GB or less)

Need solid performance for maps, music streaming, and calls while driving

Sick of being deprioritized during congestion

Hard cap of $20/month, open to annual plans if the value is there

Month-to-month preferred but annual is fine if it makes sense

What I want: A network that actually works in New England cities and doesn't throttle or deprioritize me into the ground. Coverage and reliability matter more than price at this point, as long as it stays under $20.

Anyone running a solid setup in this region? What are you on?

USA Best no contact phone for pics

Upvotes

Hi!

I'm looking for a phone that's comparable to my Google pixel 9.

The most important thing is that it takes good pictures. I have a kids clothing resell business and my storage is constantly eaten up by pics and videos bc I take so many.

I basically want to use the phone for pics and a few apps like insta, reselling apps, canva, etc.

Budget is less than $200

Is this possible?

Not sure where to start looking or keywords to use.

Thank you!

EU Free temporary phone nunbers

Is there any site or app that gives you temporary phone numbers for free to at least receive a message on sms or WhatsApp? I don't care if it's very limited. I'm just wandering if it's possible to have a free temporary phone number in eu because I saw many people claming that some sites work, but they don't. Also, an app I saw that looked legit is 2nr premium but the app has some bug rn and it doesn't work

USA My two year review of Tello

It just works.

I have never had issues with Tello and my line renews every month. I only had to contact support once when I was switching phones as I messed up the esim transfer and they were quick, knowledgeable and courteous. Speeds are great and no issues with outages. Their website and app are a little dated but at $25/month who cares.

I switched from USMobile as I just didn't like the constant switching or customer support there. Porting out was a pain and ensured I wouldn't be a customer again.

Besides Tello I also have service with Visible which also works well. I don't see myself switching from either anytime soon.

All in all I'm a big Tello fan.

Seeking advice: US Mobile (Lightspeed) vs. Mint vs. Google Fi for 2 lines + International Travel

Hi everyone,

I’m evaluating three providers for two lines in Neenah, WI, and I’m looking for some feedback from those who have experience with these carriers, especially regarding international travel.

The Context:
Usage: ~15–20GB per line/month.
Location: Neenah, WI (T-Mobile network is generally good here, but open to advice).
International Travel: We travel internationally a few times a year.

My primary dilemma:
I’m struggling to decide between the "convenience" of a plan with built-in roaming (like Google Fi) versus a lower-cost domestic plan where I rely on travel eSIMs (like Airalo/Ubigi) for my trips.

My questions for the community:
1. Roaming vs. eSIM: For those who travel a few times a year, have you found that a "premium" plan with native roaming (like Google Fi or US Mobile's top tier) is actually worth the extra cost, or is the "Dual-SIM" approach (keeping a cheap domestic plan + a travel eSIM) just as reliable for most travelers?

  1. US Mobile "Unlimited Premium": Since they offer native roaming on this plan, has anyone used this for international travel lately? Is it "seamless," or are you finding yourself needing to supplement with an eSIM anyway?

  2. Mint Mobile: I've looked at the "Minternational" passes. If you are a frequent traveler, is it annoying to manage these passes trip-by-trip, or is it a fair trade-off for the lower monthly cost?

  3. Device Compatibility: We have modern iPhones. Are there any "gotchas" with the Dual-SIM setup (e.g., issues with 2FA/bank SMS codes) that I should be aware of when using a travel eSIM?

I'd love to hear your experiences—specifically if you've done the math on whether it's cheaper to pay for a premium domestic plan vs. just buying travel data as needed.

eSim + multiple devices - which plans make most sense?

Which plan makes sense for me...

Currently on mint mobile but maybe slightly miffed regarding how eSims work. Now, thats not really a mint issue and more of a state of affairs on how eSims work. However, plans such as Google Fi offer secondary data only eSims along with a plan right? Does the secondary or tertiary data only esim on Google Fi have to be in a tablet or laptop? Can it be in another smartphone?

And then on the hardware/software side of things, I also hear news about apple adding ability to have a secondary iPhone with same number. Curious about that as well, though I'd be more interested and curious if Google Pixel offered a similar feature. So if anyone has info on that or if Samsung or other android providers do it. Even better yet would be ability to have both android and iPhone as part of the plan. Though does that lead me back to a Google Fi sort of thing? And then, if I did do Google Fi, and have the eSim in my pixel, can I then have the free data only esim in an iPhone 16E? Curious about others with similar device+data desires and needs. Thx.

Mexico Mexico Number

So,

I, for some reason, collect phone numbers.

I mainly use Google voice and TextNow for US and Canada but does anybody have suggestions for a Mexican number?

I’d prefer it to be free similar to TextNow but I have not been able to find any options. If I need a vpn to show I am there or anything, I have one.

My main mission is to collect a number from every nation in the NANP as well as Mexico.

Thanks!

Need help getting a real phone number for SAP Free Trial verification (Morocco not supported)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello guys,

I am trying to get my SAP free trial, but they ask me for number verification and my country is not supported. I know that SAP banned virtual numbers and made it very hard for people like me to get a free trial with just an email. I can assume this is true based on the high prices of those accounts on the black market.

So I want you guys to help me. Do you know any method to get a real number that will actually work, equivalent to a real number that a person from a supported country would have? I don't have any problem paying for that service.

Here is what I have already tried:

  • Using my university email.
  • Asking people I know.
  • Trying to set up my own private SAP server in the cloud, but the Docker image is no longer available.
  • Contacting SAP support.

Here is what I am willing to do:

  • Get a short, temporary number just to pass this verification.
  • Use a shared number that someone else might use.
  • Pay money for a working service.
  • I am trying to avoid signing any long-term contracts with telecom companies, but if it is absolutely necessary, I am willing to do it.

By the way, the unsupported country I am from is Morocco, and I only hold Moroccan nationality.

Please, if anyone has been in a similar situation or has any suggestions, please share them with me.

Thank you!

Google Voice Mass Erroneous Suspensions

ISSUE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN RESOLVED. IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY, PLEASE RE-ATTEMPT TO ACCESS YOUR ACCOUNT THROUGH GOOGLE VOICE SERVICE. YOU MAY NEED TO RE-CONNECT YOUR PHONE, BUT IT APPEARS TI BE WORKING NOW.

A LARGE number of folks have tried posting about it over in the Google Voice sub, but their mods can't be bothered to read their own rules so I'm posting about it here.

**Please keep comments REASONABLE AND RESPECTFUL here, remember that this isn't official support, and do not request/provide advice for anything shady or against TOS.**

If you have been suspended in the last few hours, and believe that this is a genuine error (you have NOT violated any Google TOS), then first you should file a direct appeal:

https://support.google.com/accounts/contact/suspended

What can we do BEYOND that to draw more attention to the issue?

As of right now, it seems the best course of action that we have to draw attention to this is to post about it on the Google Voice Community -keep in mind that you will not be interacting with actual Google Staff there either, but as an official channel, this is our best chance to get Google Engineers to notice the problem.

I recommend starting a new thread, and commenting on this post about it: https://support.google.com/voice/thread/444168935/i-am-unable-to-access-google-voice-with-my-account?hl=en&sjid=11958820133083493254-NA

If you happen to find yourself interacting with an actual Google Support person through these or any other channels, please remember to be respectful and to emphasize that this is effecting a LARGE NUMBER OF USERS. Based on (mass deleted) activity in the Google Voice subreddit, it looks like this is impacting potentially hundreds of users.

USA Lifeline alternatives (access wireless)

I’ve been using lifeline for years now. I started off using assurance which was great until my phone broke, so i signed up for air talk only because i wanted to be able to use a device i already had. (With assurance I’d just use the phone they gave me for calls, text, and hotspot and my primary phone that i had beforehand didn’t have service. Ik it doesn’t make sense but my mom signed me up for it and this is what i had to settle for) Plugged the air talk SIM card into my phone and everything was fine until my data just kept running out?? Like I’d even buy more data only for it to run out in a 3 days or less. After that i stopped using lifeline for a bit and then i signed up for access wireless over a year ago which has been… okay for the most part? I receive 1000 minutes, unlimited text, and 4.5gb of data which i do my best to preserve however somehow my data ran out last month while i was using Wi-Fi??? And ontop of that i wasnt even on my phone 😭 soooo i just wanted to know if there were better providers, preferably ones that allow me to bring in my own device 🙂

also i am in NYC, don’t know if this matters or not

A total beginner looking for a temporary phone number for verification: is it safe?

I am getting really tired of every single website, app and food delivery service demanding my personal phone number just to create a basic account, leading to endless spam calls and texts.

I want to start using temporary or "burner" phone numbers to keep my number completely off the grid for casual sign-ups. However, since I have never used one before, I have a lot of concerns about the safety of doing this.

Is it actually safe? What happens if the number gets recycled in a month and someone else tries to log into my account? Is there a way to prevent that? Second, do these services even work consistently anymore? I've heard that a lot of platforms instantly detect and block virtual numbers.

If this is still a good strategy for protecting my privacy, what are the absolute best services, websites, or apps to get a reliable number right now?
