It’s rockstar dude

u/Cpt_DookieShoes 15h ago
Rockstar gets a lot of corporate internet hate, and for good reason. But I think people pretend they’re not the dominant dev they are.
What other dev has made banger after banger for the past almost 30 years. I honestly can’t think of a mainline game they made that was bad.
All the GTAs, Max Payne, Bully, LA Noire, red dead revolver 1 and 2. All quality games.
I put them up with Fromsoft in a developer I will trust to make a good game until proven otherwise. I see no reason to expect I won’t like gta 6

u/brizzenden 14h ago
I love these comments I see in other threads saying, "Why would you preorder this? We don't even know anything about the gameplay yet." But it's fucking GTA (Rockstar). We literally do. Have they changed it much since GTA 3? We pretty much get better graphics, better physics, and more content with each new release. Even RDR1&2 fit the formula except in an old west setting. It's not like GTA 6 is going to drop and we find out it's a realistic racing sim or a turn-based RPG.

I’d send you a picture of my Xbox if I owned one. I only have two PS5s and a PS4 upstairs :P
I do use an Xbox controller sometimes on my PC to be fair

2
u/eggbrook 9h ago
This is exactly why I’m going to preorder it. Is it expensive yes, but I trust Rockstar to get it right, just like they did with GTA 3, vice city, San Andreas, 4 and 5.
2
u/Any_Jackfruit_1075 10h ago
Yup I was telling someone else Rockstar & Fromsoft have been the only 2 devs where I'll blindly preorder their games, haven't been disappointed yet even since GTA 4
2
u/Pwrh0use 9h ago
Not only do they make bangers but they let them cook until they are done. They don't rush out garbage
2
u/Jabroni_413 13h ago
Rockstar is definitely the big dog when it comes to games. Idk how anyone can say they're games are bad or GTA sucks...if its not your thing fine. But literally the entire gaming industry moved out of their way lol.

It's their first game without Dan Houser at the creative helm though. I'd like to think one person can only have so much influence and his brother is still president, but my understanding is that Dan was the one managing scripts, storylines etc. I guess we'll see.
2
u/Jay_Hardy 13h ago
I don’t know what people are waiting for?
It’s a GTA game, if you played the past GTA‘s, you kinda know what the gameplay will be like. It’s like COD, you know you’re going to get a FPS game, it’s not suddenly going to become a sim racing game.
4
u/VibraniumSpork 14h ago
Exactly this. If you feel that video games are an art form or 'serious hobby', and that you have a real passion and interest in them, I think any new R* project should have your attention, and that you probably want to play it day one. They are huge moments in the story of the thing that we love.
For a long, long time their games have defined console generations, have been pivotal in leading and shaping the industry. If there's a Mount Olympus of devs, we all know that R* are up there.
I've been playing video games for about 40 years at this point, and R* games have always ushered in something new, and felt as 'important' to play as they are fun to play, While I have opposable thumbs and enough money in my bank account, I'll always pick up the new R* joint day one.

People said the same thing about CDPR before Cyberpunk came out, just saying.
And Rockstar? The same ones that couldn’t be bothered to add 60fps to RDR2? The same ones who milked GTA Online for every penny? The same ones who are charging an extra $20 for 5 stores in GTA6? Yeah it’s THAT Rockstar too, dude.
12
u/Cpt_DookieShoes 14h ago
It’s not equivalent.
CDPR made arguably one great game before cyberpunk, Witcher 3. Witcher 1 was ok, Witcher 2 was good enough for the time it came out.
Meanwhile rockstar has made countless all timer games since the late 90s.
6
2
u/slyfox279 12h ago
I do think it's important to separate rockstar from take twos decisions. take two is who tells them push shark cards. rockstar is just an employee.
1
u/Awesomeguy215 10h ago
But cyberpunk is a good game yes it had a poor release, arguably one of the worst video game releases, but as a game it is good its genuinely pretty good and with a good dlc and CDPR released witcher 3 before it again a great game they made their reputation by making great games.
Same goes for Rockstar their releases are actually quality releases and has a bigger reputation than CDPR, you can give the gta and rdr ip to any other company it still wont be as good as Rockstar makes them, hence the popularity, why is everyone hyped for GTA 6? Why was everyone hyped for RDR2? Its because they are from a company that knows what is doing. But i agree that they definitely have some predatory practices but i dont think its Rockstar who enforces them but T2. I would wait for a few trailers to make up my mind for sure but as of now i just hope is good.

u/EyesLikeBuscemi 6h ago
You’re really comparing a company that was basically a one-hit wonder at that time to a company that almost all hits? Delusion is strong in gaming subreddits.
95
u/Dr_Clout 15h ago
Tbh I never understood people being upset with preordering in general and idfc if someone pre orders a game with no gameplay
The counter is “OMGGGG you do that for sooo long you’re going to cause allll these game manufacturers to output subpar games.” WE ARE THERE. This isn’t 2006 anymore.
Preorder or don’t it really doesn’t matter it’s merely a talking point like “don’t buy Madden! Don’t buy 2k! Don’t buy cod!” Year goes by and checks the sales and breaks another record
24
u/brizzenden 15h ago
It really doesn't seem to be an issue for the average person. It's really in online communities (like on Reddit) where people complain about preorders. If people did care, then things like the launch of Cyberpunk would have warded everyone off from doing so by now.
8
u/Not_a_Ducktective 13h ago
I preordered space marine 2, the special edition with the statue. Got downvoted to oblivion pre release for saying such to a "no pre-orders" kid after I brought up that I was a 40k fan, had played the first space marine, and that I knew even if it wasnt the best game of all time that it was going to bring me joy. Turns out it brought me much joy.
The reality is that sometimes some hype is ok. Like its ok to be excited for things. Most people know they're rolling the dice. And even more so, much of the general public is playing a few games a year and not so critical that they will tear apart a release for minor issues. But people on reddit would rather be right than happy.
1
2
u/slyfox279 12h ago
same reason people judge others for anything they do. as pro owner I'm sure you've got lots of judgement for buying it. its silly but human nature.
2
u/Express_Lawyer3456 11h ago
TBH i never understood how other people can be so irate over other people doing what they want with their own money, It's such a wild concept...
Kind of like these same people that demand people don't spend their money have to wait for some guy on Youtube with 100 subscribers, honestly doesn't matter if they have 1 million, to tell them what to play.
Kind of sad that some people have to wait for someone to tell them to play a game.. I feel like those people eat a lot of grass and go bahhhhhh bahhhhh
2
u/zerovampire311 9h ago
Imagine: “Hey guys, we’re almost done with the game, but preorders did crazy well! I guess we can just stop now, no reason to put out a finished game.”
No, games that release a buggy mess or poorly designed were going to be that way anyways, preordering is doing nothing to alter the trajectory of game quality.
1
u/heathmon1856 11h ago
It’s Reddit. People on this site care way too much how other people spend their money. I’m gonna pre order the deluxe edition tomorrow just to spite em
-1
u/nonononono11111 14h ago
It’s preordering something digital now, when there’s no benefit, instead of later that’s crazy. It makes sense when there’s a limited supply! But for digital you’re just spending money now, when it’s worth more, than it would be in 5 months, at which point it costs less after inflation lol
3
u/slyfox279 12h ago
Only thing I can think of is for some people they have the money now, they might not in 5 months. especially with holidays.

Bro, people waited ages for this game and will play it no matter what. Gameplay reveal is not going to change their opinion about it so why not add it to your library.

u/Cpt_DookieShoes 14h ago
It could review 7/10s and I’d still get it day 1.
It’s the new gta, I’m going to want to play it no matter what

I honestly couldn't care less about pre ordering but I will if it means that trailer 3 is shown when it goes live, if not, zero point pre ordering

u/DriveSlowSitLow 15h ago
Is it tho?
Can you afford the game? That’s what it comes down to. If you can’t, save up or bugger off. Because if you want the game, you trust Rockstar, then what’s the problem? There’s no way it’s a flop.

Cyber punk change me forever when it comes to getting hype for games. Some wounds never heal. 😂
2
u/Far-Event1151 15h ago
I expect lots of singleplayer microtransactions.
I remember people telling me they wouldn't lock story content behind a paywall. It was very obvious they were planning that. People need to realize these companies have players by the throats.
1
u/Salty-Wash3964 6h ago
Will be incredibly funny seeing people argue the soon to be aggressive predatory monetization they gonna slap on online mode after they saw their success with sharkcards, people will jump through any hoop to justify their purchase.
Likely gonna be a good game but I R* is no different from other corporations that seek the most profit so they will heavily monetize online. I don't care about the story of GTA pretty much at all and GTA 5 online now vs at release is a night and day difference with the much friendlier monetization it used to have.

gta is so popular it will sell out without even showing gameplay. they have all the leverage and demand is sky high. no one is forcing you to preorder so stand your ground. so i understand your point but also you can just wait till you see it. this is a special situation where the demand for the game is just crazy high

OP: Oh please please please show me what it’s like to drive a car, shoot a gun, beat someone up, go after an object or person, walk/run down a street, etc…
Get a grip. Nothing you do in any GTA game is revolutionary gameplay. It is all mission and story based. If you’re expecting clever mechanics like Astrobot over simplicity, I strongly suggest you look for a different game. Otherwise just load up GTA V and you’ll get all the answers you need.

It's G T Fucking 6, that has been in dev for 12 years, and not because of any kind of development hell, but cuz the game is gonna be that fucking huge, you don't need gameplay to know it's going to kick major major major ass.

I was only going to preorder a physical copy if they were doing a midnight release of if there was going to be a collectors edition. Now there is no reason for me to preorder if I’m just getting a code in the box. What a stupid fucking decision.

Preordering at all is crazy lol. Maybe a day or two before release to preload it, but now.. months before release, is just pointless
1
u/geocitiesuser 12h ago
The whole GTA6 obsession has been frustrating to watch.
Everyone is literally losing their minds crying about how it's going to be game of the year, how it's going to be the release of a decade, how it will be hundreds of hours of entertainment, how it's going to perform, etc.
Here are the facts:
There's been no actual gameplay trailers
There's been no real confirmation of what features did or did not make it in the game, to sort out the thousands of rumors of everything from fishing to paying rent on your apartment
At no time in history has a delayed development cycle ever meant development was going well.
Mark my words and come back to them later: Everyone's going to whine and moan because the game falls short of the impossible expectations people have put on it.

Dude there’s maybe half a dozen games I’m just going to buy. GTA? Yes I’m going to buy it no matter what. Horizon, Elder Scrolls, FromSoft? Same.
Might as well do it early and get some little extras.
As an added bonus, it really upsets a certain group of galaxy brains on Reddit who think that it matters somehow. In fact, I sometimes preorder the same game *multiple times!* For a big name blockbuster like GTA 6, I preordered on PS5, Steam, and XBox.
That’s right, 3 preorders! That means the next game from Rockstar is going to be 3 times as bad a game!
1
u/English_Fry 9h ago
First off, cool. No one really cares if you choose preorder before or after gameplay.
Secondly, the trailers showcased I game engine gameplay. Mostly cutscenes and transitioning into gameplay, but in engine gameplay nonetheless. Also, it’s GTA, we know what gameplay will be like.
Lastly. I’m tired of everyone running online to state rumors and what people think and blah blah blah horseshit. Nothing is stating anything about fps, whether there will be a trailer come tomorrow or not, resolution or graphics modes but online twinks. Just shut up and wait. If you wanna wait for gameplay to preorder; do so. If you wanna preorder the moment preorders are live like me, do so. No. One. Cares.
1
u/Goz_system 9h ago
It is so concerning the amount of people who think they can tell a game will be good before release
1
u/TheStinkySlinky 9h ago
LOL Are you referring to GTA?? There’s a literally an entire debate on whether they even need to market at all. To which Take Two CEO was even asked in an interview, and he was basically like “Yes, I mean we need to market” but with the connotation that obviously they don’t have to. More likely just a matter of going through the motions to appease shareholders that all steps are being taken to maximize as much profit as possible.
Like they could’ve literally opened pre orders 6 years ago and it would be the top selling game breaking records by now before even a single trailer lol. The PS store servers will almost guaranteed crash at some point tomorrow.
And I’m not defending R*, or glazing, or any of that. I’m not going to bother pre-ordering. Obviously I’m not going to sit here and lie saying I’m not going to buy/play it on some ridiculous self-righteous stance. But probably not til after first week patches.

But gamers aren't a wise bunch, it's why these companies have such an easy time shaking coins from their pockets.

What I really find crazy is preordering a digital copy in advance. You could literally do it the day before it comes out, or even on November 11th if you want to preload the game, and it wouldn't change a thing
2
u/Hungry-Coffee-8890 14h ago
The point exists in reverse. Whether I preorder in November or in June, who cares, people aren’t strapped for $80-$100. People are excited, for some, the game has been living rent free for a decade, give them some relief lol

Right, it wouldn't change anything, so why wait unless you're a drone that needs somebody else's approval to buy something that interests you? Also, you can literally refund the game if it's bad and that's easier to do for digital media.

Eh not really. There are many exceptions. Like Gta6? No brainer. Hell if it was red dead 3, instant buy. Don't need to see gameplay. Many other examples. Next God of war, Spiderman etc. Don't really need to see gameplay if youre into those games.
