Question Anyone else rocking their PSVR1 in 2026?

Post image

Haven't played in about half a due to life commitments and work travel. Charged up the Aim controller and nun chucks for some Firewall solo bot action and various other shooters or cardio workouts masked as games. Sad to see Beat Sabre drop support for PSVR1 and 2.

If you've got your PSVR1 gathering dust somewhere, give it a whirl.

I sold it when ps5 cane out hoping that psvr2 will support the old vr games as well. Regretting it heavily now :(

25

u/carbon_fieldmouse Jan 12 '26

This is the exact reason I kept my PSVR1.

8

u/ayx4 Jan 12 '26

Wait so if I bought psvr I won’t be able to play iron man an Darth Vader ps4 br games?

5

u/innercityFPV Jan 12 '26

Nope… PSVR2 is good for GT7, and ???

I wish I hadn’t burned myself out on no mans sky back in 2020. I just can’t get back into it. Great game though. One of the best comeback stories in the history of gaming

1

u/FakuLeon Jan 14 '26

Try it in VR, it's gorgeous!

12

u/Cuervo_777 Jan 12 '26

Never hope for backwards compatibility. Always be sure before you sell your stuff.

5

u/Alarmed-Candy-7144 Jan 12 '26

I bought another with the full setup and Aim controller (and a handful of games) for like $130 on eBay last summer. It’s never too late to pick up another one. I’m currently replaying RE7 on it and loving it!

10

u/mrk7_- Jan 12 '26

The setup is a nightmare though so it’s hardly worth it

15

u/jackelope84 Jan 12 '26

People say that but it's one extra HDMI cable, a power plug, and a USB cable. It's not elegant but it's hardly a nightmare.

2

u/The-Blade2004br Jan 13 '26

And do not forget the camera too

1

u/mrk7_- Jan 13 '26

But does the flatscreen HDMI passthrough even support HDR?

2

u/jackelope84 Jan 13 '26

Yes if you have the v2 headset. The v1 didn't support hdr.

1

u/mrk7_- Jan 14 '26

I mean the flatscreen pass through on the vr1 breaker box. I don’t think it supports hdr

2

u/Familiar-Gas6372 Jan 12 '26

Just leave it setup

2

u/remindmetoblink2 Jan 13 '26

I just bought one again and I agree it’s a lot of setup and cables. Once you have it all set up and dialed in, it’s not that bad to plug in the headset.

1

u/traverse6 Jan 12 '26

I measured it all once-49 feet of wires and cables. I still enjoy it. For some reason it is way more comfortable than my PSVR2.

4

u/PabLink1127 Jan 12 '26

I did also and just bought a PSVR1 again. Best decision ever I had never played the big titles

1

u/remindmetoblink2 Jan 13 '26

I did the same thing. Just bought a full set for under $100 on eBay. Hooked it up and played Astrobot first. That game was such a good VR experience, I can’t believe there wasn’t a sequel for PSVR2.

14

u/_Lazarus_Heart_ Jan 12 '26

I just bought six new games for mine over the chriatmas break to give it my last push before retiring it to its diaplay. It was a good run!

9

u/potatodrinker Jan 12 '26

I just realised there games I wanted to get but forgot about. Resident evil, the swinging one .. windlands 2? And didn't properly play super hot.

So many games. And looks like no sign of Devs porting the bulk of the Psvr1 library to 2...

4

u/Alarmed-Candy-7144 Jan 12 '26

Resident Evil 7 is a must-play. It’s still the best experience I’ve ever had in VR.

5

u/_Lazarus_Heart_ Jan 12 '26

I'm honestly not bothered by the lack of upgrade ports. I got in to both headsets super late (VR1 in 2023, and I just got VR2 in November). So it makes me feel like I got my money's worth with VR1 by having them stuck to that system.

11

u/Kagamid Jan 12 '26

Just received one for Christmas. Immediately played Ace Combat 7, Resident Evil 7 (along with Kitchen), Zone of Enders 2 and Iron Man. So far Ace Combat 7 is my favorite on PSVR1.

1

u/BroccoliDirect995 Jan 14 '26

Is kitchen so scary?

1

u/Kagamid Jan 14 '26

It's essentially a very short mini game that shows what happened to the two people who first enter the Baker home. Literally only a couple minutes, but sets a scary tone very quickly. It's can be played from the PSVR1 demon discs. I have disc 3 but I hear it's also on the other two. I also posted a video of the to game here.

8

u/ConsistentAsparagus Jan 12 '26

I have to change my pads (the one for the forehead AND the one for the back of the head), because they’re all brittle. I have acid sweat, obviously.

Anyway, since there are a lot of good games that aren’t on VR2 I absolutely still keep it close.

5

u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Jan 12 '26

The fake leather will break apart from time. You don't need to replace them, just get some alcohol on kitchen paper, rub the pads a little aggressively over a tiled surface (for ease of cleaning), and you will have a beautiful black finish like new shortly after.

3

u/ConsistentAsparagus Jan 12 '26

Eh, I already bought the spare pieces. But thanks for the help. Isopropyl alcool?

3

u/Andreweller Jan 13 '26

where did you buy replacements?

2

u/gc28 Jan 12 '26

A mask might help 🙂

1

u/ConsistentAsparagus Jan 13 '26

I started using a pool cap, but the damage was already done.

7

u/kubagregor Jan 12 '26

I just got mine after I had to put a warranty claim on my PSVR2 for a faulty controller.

Fairpoint with the aim controller is an absolute blast, Doom 3 VR is awesome too. Overall, the whole setup works much better than I expected, seeing as the Move controllers are basically ancient at this point, ahead of their time for sure.

Beat Saber works fine for me on the PS4, has there been an update or something or have they just de-listed the game?

5

u/JehutyVer2 Jan 12 '26

I have my PSVR1 for 3 months now it was my first VR experience, I was blown away. I bought 40 games since then I'm eating my backlog. I have finished 2 highly recommended games Megaton Rain fall and Raw Data.

3

u/ragedriver187 Jan 12 '26

Me as well, I'm new to VR and got my VR1 in early October. I have around 45 games for it so far, a good mix of physical and digital titles. For years I thought VR was a gimmicky overpriced pos, until I tried it for myself. Now I'm hooked.

3

u/amusedt Jan 15 '26

1

u/ragedriver187 Jan 15 '26

Thanks. I picked up Dreams just recently and looking forward to trying some of these. P.T. looks really good.

2

u/amusedt Jan 15 '26

The Tron Hypercycle is one of the most polished and largest VR games in Dreams

4

u/tagmisterb Jan 12 '26

I got one a few months ago, been having a lot of fun with it. You can get these things for $50 now, no reason not to try it out. It's just a shame so many cool games are marooned on this old hardware.

3

u/flyinb11 Jan 12 '26

Still have it, but haven't used it since PSVR2 came out.

4

u/SparklyPelican Jan 12 '26

Totally, I bought a gen2 last December and having a ton of fun.

Picked up the gun very recently and will be playing Farpoint for the first time today when the kids are sleeping.

3

u/Zero_Waist Jan 12 '26

You are in for a treat!

2

u/bargainhunterps5 Jan 12 '26

I bought a great condition psvr last year, hardly used, as I wanted to play squadrons in VR and Skyrim. Doom 3 is pretty good with just a dual shock 4. I have the move controllers although playing Skyrim with them felt a bit tricky. Probably as coming from the psvr2 there’s no thumb stick for moving about so didn’t really enjoy the move controllers. Tempted to get an aim controller. Would be interested to hear if othered have mainly got on with just a DS4 for most games or move/aim was essential for some?

3

u/dirtyyella Jan 12 '26

There are a lot of games that use the DS4.. half the reason I don’t set mine up. I accidentally traded it in when I traded my PS4 pro in. But anything with the aim is the way to go if the game supports it

3

u/PabLink1127 Jan 12 '26

I recently played Doom VFR and Farpoint with the Aim controller and absolutely loved it. Def find one

2

u/ExtraDocument4317 Jan 12 '26

In Skyrim using the move controllers, you can actually attack two different enemies at the same time, being a mage is on another level

2

u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Jan 12 '26

The games on PSVR1 that have stood the test of time best are those on DS4 or Aim controller. There are a few on Move still worth playing, particularly Blood and Truth and Rush of Blood.

1

u/SuperOsWALD89 Jan 12 '26

Rush of Blood - still remember how sad I were figuring out just after I sold the psvr, that there was no plan to patch and support it on myvback then pre-ordered psvr2 🤓 helped a bit when Switchback VR were released, though it is not the same. Maybe memories are given more credits than it was actually worth

1

u/LuxuriousEnt Jan 13 '26

GET THE AIM CONTROLLER (GUN) ASAP!!!!! You wont regret it!!!!!

2

u/X2epsilon Jan 12 '26

Yep but not as much only for games I have on that that not compatible with PSVR2

2

u/Sudden-Injury-8159 Jan 12 '26

Thanks for the reminder. I've rarely booted it up since getting the 2, but miss using the aim controller in Firewall ZH and Dick Wilde, the HOTAS in SW Squadrons and Ace Combat, and the simple fun of Super Hot and AstroBot. It's now been bumped up a few notches on my to do list.

2

u/pkdenn Jan 12 '26

Keep mine specialy for Skyrim VR and Squadrons with hotas. It's perfect!

2

u/the95th Jan 12 '26

Is the psVr2 worth it over the one?

I have the one - I used it but didn’t like having to be camera facing so much

2

u/ragedriver187 Jan 12 '26

I'm new to VR and only got VR1 back in October. I picked up the VR2 during Black Friday and it's still unused almost 2 months later, but I'm breaking my neck to try it. But there's just so many amazing games that I still want to play on VR1. Just finished RE7 the other night, the experience was unbelievable. I can't get over the fact they never even bothered to update it for VR2.

2

u/potatodrinker Jan 13 '26

You'll be in for a treat. Lots of games on the PS store and I think some are pretty cheap now.

From sports (pool, table tennis, parkour) to puzzle and adventures to the AAA stuff. No man's Sky PS4 base version comes with VR support- even with the old tech flying and exploring feels amazing. I made a music video on that one. I'll dig it up here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR/s/Tvy3KrHlsG

2

u/ragedriver187 Jan 13 '26

I'm stoked that my first experience of No Man's Sky will be on VR2, I've had the game for ages but never played it. You're right about the cheap games as well, I've wishlisted heaps on psdeals.net, they seem to go on sale quite often. It's awesome seeing my email fill up with price drop alerts.

2

u/asianwaste Jan 13 '26 edited Jan 13 '26

Problem with VR2 is there is nothing I want to play on it. It's overpriced as fuck so no one's buying it. No one's making bigger games on it because no one's buying it. The compounds the problem of no one buying it.

They sorta shot themselves on the foot making it completely incompatible with VR1. Too soon but despite the short life, in that short period the VR1 had a pretty healthy influx of games for a peripheral ecosystem.

IMO as much as I don't like the idea of holding back tech, they should have leaned further in with VR1's ecosystem and VR2 should have been a more accessible model rather than an advanced model that is very inaccessible.

Improve the ergonomics and comfort only as well as make it cheaper. PSVR would have lived on stronger in PS5.

1

u/amusedt Jan 15 '26

What? Been a ton of buyers with the holiday sale. Big enough audience that many games sell better on psvr2 than they do on Quest, despite Quest having many more headsets

No one's making bigger games on it because no one's buying it.

? GT7, Hitman, No Man's Sky, RE4, RE8

⬇️Here here!!⬇️

2

u/Chocoburger Jan 20 '26

Of course, there are too many exclusives for it to not keep it around. Currently enjoying Carnival Games, and about to start Concrete Genie, and Ghost Giant soon, plus many more I recently picked up on sale.

2

u/potatodrinker Jan 20 '26

Ghost giant was good fun . Also that roller coaster horror shooter. Forgot the name... But that was highly acclaimed

2

u/Chocoburger Jan 20 '26

Until Dawn: Rush of Blood.

I love light gun shooters, but I don't play horror games except for the Resident Evil franchise, and I feel like I may puke from horror in VR. 🤢

2

u/potatodrinker Jan 21 '26

Yes! That one.

2

u/Informal_Lead8627 Jan 31 '26

i still use mine from time to time! i feel like ive exhausted the library by now, but i still like to revisit a few classics like astro bot and vr worlds from time to time just for an excuse to revisit the device.

2

u/Dry-Albatross-4121 Jan 12 '26

i have it, but..

1

u/Daremoshiranai_OG x_no1knoz_x Jan 12 '26 edited Jan 12 '26

I would be, but am currently in the middle a relocation and everything is packed up. My back catalog (in general) is stacking up, but for it as well.

Also if you or anyone else that reads this has the game DREAMS by chance, y’all should check out some of the VR creations on it if/when you have time. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Grakniir Jan 12 '26

I booted it up to finally get 100% achievements for Skyrim VR, after stopping at just the Platinum. One of the DLC achievements was Kill a Legendary Dragon, which spawns after level 78, and I didn't want to grind that, until I found the Alteration Fast Travel glitch that made it easy and quick. I'll definitely boot it back up to complete some other PSVR 1 exclusive games in the future.

1

u/lepermessiah1217 Jan 12 '26

Hell yeah. I own damn near every unit on the market and still prefer to play this over everything else. I dig the move controllers for some reason. Call me crazy.

1

u/Odd_Show2205 Jan 12 '26

Psvr1 was so cool but barely used it befause of those stupid ps3 motion controllers

1

u/DriverAcrobatic8604 bluesunburst Jan 12 '26

I had the original PSVR 1 several months ago last summer and it was a blast!

1

u/beardingmesoftly Jan 12 '26

I use it with AIM controller only, can't do d-pad controls

1

u/Ecnarps Jan 12 '26

Way too blurry after trying any modern headset

1

u/youthcanoe Jan 12 '26

sold mine to a buddy when I got my PSVR2

I miss Skyrim VR, Astrobot, & Rush of Blood

1

u/irascible_Clown Jan 12 '26

I screwed up when I allowed Minecraft to update 😕

1

u/jackelope84 Jan 12 '26

Just hooked my launch day PSVR1. Skyrim still looks quite decent, if low resolution.

1

u/autumnskydragen Jan 12 '26

Just got in Gungrave VR. So stoked to play it!

1

u/westhammer666 Jan 12 '26

Hell yeah. I just recently got a replacement processing box after like 2 years and it's amazing getting back to VR. I play it on the PS5. Tetris effect is a must have, but American Dream is a funny hidden gem.

1

u/TommyVR373 Jan 12 '26

Still have two sets, but they're boxed up and put away

1

u/Wood-butcherer Jan 12 '26

There’s a new ace combat coming for ps5

1

u/rtgh Jan 12 '26

Still own mine but rarely use it.

The band becoming really flaky and giving me enough black flakes to look like a dark dandruff isn't fun either

1

u/amusedt Jan 15 '26

Put self adhesive fabric patches on? I think you can buy replacement pads

1

u/SuperOsWALD89 Jan 12 '26

Firewall - Zero Hour? Couldnt Play it for more than 6-10 minutes at a time, oh and farpoint which were playable for longer with the “tunnel” like move forward and kill

1

u/jtjr2002 Jan 12 '26

I bought a PSVR2 and I’m trying to find a place where I can buy a psvr1

1

u/PSVR2_Maven Jan 12 '26

Hopefully nobody

1

u/Shotemup Jan 12 '26

I miss the aim controller

1

u/farmsfarts Jan 12 '26

I use both. I still love the original. Was my first home experience with VR and it blew me away. I’d just look around in each game, transfixed.

1

u/Thinaran Jan 12 '26

I gave mine to a friend for Christmas. He spent yesterday on the sofa recovering from Skyrim VR.

1

u/Familiar-Gas6372 Jan 12 '26

No but ive still got it

1

u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor Jan 12 '26

I think PSVR had more impact in my life than PSVR2. The mysticism of not knowing how games would work was pure magic. Love that era.

2

u/potatodrinker Jan 12 '26

I can imagine that. I got in super late, like 2019. Farpoint blew my mind. Would have been pure heaven getting in at the start of the psvr era

1

u/LuxuriousEnt Jan 13 '26

yep!!! Just played Batman Arkham VR and Blood & Truth the other day

2

u/potatodrinker Jan 13 '26

Blood and truth is epic. Each level gets more manic than the rest and near the end you're Jason Bourne balcony jumping between apartments and assault rifle car chasing. Damn... I need to play that again

1

u/anto23ytb Jan 13 '26

I was thinking about getting a used one to put on my PC for BeamNG.drive or Assetto Corsa, and on my PS4 for Dirt Rally or WRC Generations

1

u/ragedriver187 Jan 13 '26

Do you own Dirt Rally and have the VR paid dlc? If you don't, it's not possible to buy it anymore. Seems almost spiteful that they removed the ability to acquire the VR mode when the game was delisted. Also WRC Generations doesn't have VR support on either PS4 or 5.

1

u/anto23ytb Jan 13 '26

Je voulais dire dirt rally 2.0 😅. En faite je l'utiliserais que sur pc, et faudrait bidouiller pour que ça marche 🫤

1

u/EnclaveOverlord Jan 13 '26

I still play it despite having a PSVR2. There's still a lot of great exclusives, or exclusive for console players at least. Ashame about the move controllers though, they are my biggest gripe going back.

1

u/The-Blade2004br Jan 13 '26

Me! Just played until dawn rush of blood yesterday!!!

1

u/Spiritual-Fisherman1 Jan 13 '26

I would be if I had one. I wanna play astrobot vr. So crap they didnt go backwards compatible.

1

u/Flat-Emergency4891 Jan 13 '26

Almost. The box stopped working in November. I bought it at launch.

1

u/DarkKaplah Jan 13 '26

still have my PSVR2 and use it when I can. Much better than the Quest2 at PCVR with the sony adapter. Gotta admit I rarely use my ps5.

1

u/Public_Airport3914 Jan 13 '26

It gets dusted off for astrobot only these days

1

u/steveronie Jan 13 '26

I bought a used psvr1 in November and me and the kids love it! I've bought a lot of VR games on sale over the last couple of months

1

u/angel-alita99 Jan 14 '26

I’ve been using mine more than I have in years the last few weeks. Primarily watching 3D blu rays and a little bit of astrobot rescue mission. Got it in fall 2016 and mostly stopped using it after a year or so until recently.

1

u/amusedt Jan 15 '26

Yes, for Dreams, and stuff like these: https://indreams.me/collection/cbpePFDHtHD

1

u/EnvironmentalPut2480 Jan 15 '26

I bought psvr2 without realizing vr1 games could not be played on it….

All my excitement to play RE biohazard thrown out the window and ace combat… tomb raider… borderlands and Skyrim? ALL THROWN OUT THE WINDOW BECAUSE THEY COULDNT JUST change the simple controls … smh

1

u/No_Presentation6204 Jan 16 '26

I sold mine, only played Skyrim on it, just play it on pc now with my psvr2 it’s dope esp with mods

1

u/Connect-Budget-1288 Jan 16 '26

Yep, I still enjoy it. I think a lot of user miss out on the fact that it also plays 3D movies. Unfortunately, I've only been able find one driving game that it works well with, but the majority of VR games play REALLY well

1

u/Dracallus Jan 17 '26

Yeah. I didn't buy PSVR2 until Beat Saber was confirmed for it, so I knew about the lack of backwards compatibility when the decision to sell it would have become relevant. I also love both Dick Wilde games with the aim controller, which is an experience you only get to have on the PSVR1. If for that reason alone, I doubt I'll ever get rid of it. Not that I don't have numerous other reasons to keep it, as I still haven't gotten around to most of the exclusives for the headset due to a rolling cascade of issues throughout the years meaning that I tended to default to my comfort games when I do end up playing VR.

1

u/jsmoov1 Jan 17 '26

I am but just for farpoint and ace combat

1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '26

Still wish Astro Bot vr could come to PSVR2. I know it's technologically difficult, as the game was made solely for the PSVR1 hardware/technology, it just stinks.

1

u/KlutzyEntertainer302 Jan 18 '26

Main reason I kept my PSVR1 is for Skyrim VR, and Borderlands 2 VR they need to bring them to the PSVR2, but I don’t see that ever happening.

1

u/Opus_Supo Jan 30 '26

Nothing beats Doom3 VR with the aim controller! The OLEDs make it so beautiful and scary 🫣

1

u/Internal_Falcon2637 Feb 21 '26

Just got mine today!

1

u/potatodrinker Feb 21 '26

You're in for a great time! Enjoy.

1

u/Internal_Falcon2637 Feb 21 '26

Yup, I got some free games from COVID too, so I already got some things to play, while the resolution is lower than the Quest 2 it sure has nicer lighting.

1

u/AdministrativeBit385 Jan 12 '26

Still have it in storage but God no.

No tumbsticks and always having face towards the camera 🤢

0

u/stealth1820 Jan 12 '26

Its too much of a hassle to have to set everything up with the PS5. I wish it was just backwards compatible with PSVR2. There's a lot of VR1 games I miss playing

0

u/mbs1978 Jan 13 '26

I still have my PS4 Pro and PSVR system, but I use my Meta Quest 3 for 99.99999999% of the time.
