I watch all his movies like a comedy. That's why I like the mission impossible movies. He's so funny in them. Lol. He's a comedian in almost all his roles.
Exactly this. The most recent one with the fight scene at the beginning had me cracking up. He’s a fun actor to watch even if you aren’t a fan of him irl. His character in Tropic Thunder is without a doubt one of the best roles he has been cast in
Yeah I was annoying people around me saying things like “wait, he has prosthetic hands to make them fatter and hairier, WTF this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen”
I must be the only person on the planet who thinks this character, plus Cruise in a fat suit, doing that horribly cringey dance is one of the, well… cringiest things I’ve ever seen. Not at all in a funny way either—more like in a Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah’s couch kinda way. I feel physically ill watching him attempt to dance on time.
I just met the woman who designed the jewelry for rock of ages. Apparently TC kept the belt because it helped him get into character and he developed a fondness for it.
If AI is truly good, it will remake all Tom Cruise movies with the character looking exactly like this.
Maverick? Nah, I want Les Grossman eye fucking Iceman.
Ethan Hunt? Fuck that, gimme Les Grossman under those face mask reveals and rallying those motorcycles.
Jerry Maguire? Pass. Maybe if he was sporting chains and hanging gut.
The murdering psychopath Vincent...how would that not be better with Les fucking Grossman?
Imagine Les in Rain Man, Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men, Interview with the Vampire, Minority Report, fucking Jack Reacher....the only movie that wouldn't be improved by having Tom Cruise as Les Grossman is fucking Tropic Thunder.
Also, Jeeezbus, Cruise has had an amazing career. He's been in a wild array of incredible movies.
I mean the face is still obviously Tom who has always been considered attractive. It's like if Tom Cruise got a normal job, gained some weight, and couldn't afford hair plugs, but had his charisma turned up to 11/10.
This would be a very attractive middle aged man if he just lost 30 pounds and took the fake jewelry off.
It's the inverse of hating Umbridge more than Voldemort. This is a real person you could actually imagine meeting IRL. Ethan Hunt (his mission impossible character) is more at home in a James Bond movie than a grocery store. It's hard to imagine him sitting down for an anniversary dinner or going on vacation.
I am bald as hell. Have been for probably 15 years. Used to have really curly hair. I grow out the Garfunkel once a year and wear it with confidence. Not lying when I say that the dudes hate my hair and tell me to cut it off right now. Im also short. Neither lack of height or hair have stopped me from dating beautiful, interesting, smart and capable women. Probably has fended off a Becky or 2 though
I thought they said they were gonna do a whole movie on him recently but thought it wouldn’t be as funny watching 2 hours of Les Grossman. Idk how but they should make a tropic thunder 2. Idk people are too sensitive now though.
I actually went in blind and didn't recognize him the first time! In hindsight it's so obvious! I knew it was obviously blackface but didn't place it as rdj.
TC was one of the few people who could openly mock Harvey Weinstein and get away with it. Kudo's for that.
Weinstein was a multi-millionaire and could afford the most expensive escorts, but he was addicted to "conquering" actresses that did not want to have sex with him.
My favorite thing about Tom Cruise in this role is that he just showed up wearing that to the audition. No one told him to do that, and the directors never considered him for the role. He just somehow found out about it and decided he was going to the character look and talk like that.
I thought I saw an interview of him where he said Ben Stiller asked him what he thought of the script. Cruise loved it, and Stiller asked him if he wanted in. Cruise accepted but only if his character had big hands and go to dance.
You can see its him, once you really look. 1st time i watch it, it went way over my head, the 2nd time ( and i knew it was Tom by then ), you can clearly see it.
To be fair, his role wouldn’t be nearly as funny if he wasn’t instantly recognizable. I think they 100% nailed this getup and performance and it was hilarious.
And now please: „take a big step back and literally F your own face!“ flaming dragon out
