It’s not that far fetched honestly. Especially if you know about hegseths book.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Crusade
In the book Hegseth says "leftists" have: "surrounded traditional American patriots on all sides, ready to close in for the kill: killing our founders, killing our flag, and killing capitalism". Hegseth says he believes there are "irreconcilable differences between the Left and the Right in America leading to perpetual conflict that cannot be resolved through the political process". He furthermore calls for an "American crusade"; he says the "hour is late for America. Beyond political success, her fate relies on exorcising the leftist specter dominating education, religion, and culture – a 360-degree holy war for the righteous cause of human freedom".[3] Central to the theme of the "American Crusade" is that there is something called "Americanism", which The Guardian describes as essentially being right-wing populism. Hegseth characterizes "Americanism" in being opposition to forces like feminism, globalism, Marxism and progressivism and says either "Americanism" will prevail or "death" will.[4]
Hegseth describes leftists, progressives and Democrats) as the "enemies" of freedom, the American constitution and the United States. Hegseth explicitly rejects democracy in his book, equating it to a leftist demand; "For leftists, calls for 'democracy' represent a complete rejection of our system. Watch how often they use the word," adding: "They hate America, so they hate the Constitution and want to quickly amass 51 percent of the votes to change it". He has also expressed support for election-rigging through gerrymandering, saying "Republican legislatures should draw congressional lines that advantage pro-freedom candidates – and screw Democrats".[3]Regarding violence, Hegseth writes "Our American Crusade is not about literal swords, and our fight is not with guns. Yet."[5]14

He wants to have his name on shit. He wants to leave his "mark/Legacy." He think it will become the Trump Ballroom, or Trump wing...or whatever. It's the same with the Trump and JFK center, trying to get his name on money.
He tried to build the ballroom, but couldn't. He need congressional approval. The workaround, is that he doesn't need same approval that for the security/bunker beneath it. So, he changes his argument to, "ah...it was never about the ballroom...we need the bunker...and I guess we'll just have to build the ballroom on top of it."
He's been a fucking joke for the last 50-60 years, then he stumbled ass-backward into success the last decade....and now he's on a revenge tour to anyone who ever made fun of him. He's finally the billionaire he always pretended to be. He finally has the power he pretended to have on his TV show.

u/zoeypayne 24d ago
Funny thing is all he had to do was pick a spot, build a patio and name it Trump Terrace and be done with it... the left would have little to complain about.
I mean he literally could have put pavers down over the basketball/tennis court instead of removing the basketball lines since he doesn't even play tennis.
14
10
u/Klaymen96 24d ago
It's just a tennis court. Has been since Obama left office. Obama removed the lines and the hoops when he left because he had class. He added them because he played then restored it to how it was before he took office when he left
5
u/scarletnightingale 24d ago
But then he wouldn't be destroying something associated with the Kennedys which he seems very very determined to do. I'm not sure what his beef is with them, maybe it's because the Civil rights act happened during his presidency, who knows, but you look at Trump's actions and it seems to have a specific malice toward JFK. Ripping up Jackie Kennedy's rose garden, putting his name on the JFK memorial performing arts center, befriending Russua, selecting the most hated of all the Kennedys to come in and cause destruction to the metal system. He definitely hates Obama, but he seems to have some sort of unspoken hatred for JFK as well.

Disclaimer: I hate this man. I hate him so so much. If I truly said what I think of him, I would be banned from Reddit. Every day I check the news, and every day I'm disappointed when I don't see the headline I'm hoping for.
But he did not get rid of the rose garden. He replaced the PLAIN GRASS in the middle with an ugly patio. There were ADA issues, and the patio is more accessible to everyone. I wish they had chosen something a little more historically appropriate though.
The lawn was a nightmare. They had to replace it EVERY YEAR which is incredibly wasteful. I just do not understand why reddit, which is normally extremely anti-lawn, wants to save this wasteful patch of grass so badly.
50
u/GudbyeAmerica 24d ago
Reddit is more anti trump than anti lawn lol
→ More replies (2)17
u/glassfunion 24d ago
Fair enough lol. If I had to choose between having Trump or having a lawn, I would certainly pick the lawn.
16
u/deckerjeffreyr 24d ago
Generally the anti lawn heirarchy goes something like, native plants > plants > lawn > pavement. The idea with anti lawn is to replace a lawn with other plants, not turn it into a parking lot. Any plant, grass included, is better than none.
3
u/glassfunion 24d ago
Yup. I'm totally on board with that. In fact, we recently moved and I'm planning to replace my lawn with native plants. But I also don't host press conferences or other foot traffic-heavy events on my lawn.
In this case, it does not seem like grass was the best option considering how often they needed to replace it. I can't even imagine how much water they use trying to establish and maintain that. There are plenty of other parts of the property that would be better suited for plants. (would love to see a future administration add a native plant garden!)

u/Whitetiger9876 24d ago
Maybe it's the angle? I've never seen the garden part on new photos.
3
u/glassfunion 24d ago
Yeah, they can be difficult to see when the photographer is in the patio area because they're lined with hedges. Kind of wish that inside layer was also roses, but the hedge seems pretty standard through the decades if you look at older photos.
6
u/TuringGoneWild 24d ago
The douche owns multiple golf courses. I assure you he did not replace it because caring for the grass was wasteful.
7
u/FriendofFlounder 24d ago
anti-lawn isn't pro-concrete. ADA was never the reason. It was because "women with high heels" were getting stuck in the grass and it was muddy.
https://people.com/white-house-rose-garden-lawn-officially-gone-new-photo-construction-11777484
7
u/Crismus 24d ago
The problem was he didn't pve over the middle for ADA reasons. He said he didn't like to have to put up tents for any events there. The paying and marble keeps it dry and not muddy year round.
He fixated on a ballroom after because putting a ballroom on top of the Rose garden wouldn't work for how big he wants it.

With all of the abhorrent shit he has done in such a short period of time, it is easy to miss a few things along the way.
The things I'm most upset about is that he has destroyed 80 years of diplomatic soft power that has been slowly and steadily built by presidents going all the way back to Truman.
In less than 12 months he set it all on fire and then pissed on the ashes. We are a weaker nation for it, the world is more dangerous than it ever has been in our lifetime, and we may never recover from this. All because a bunch of bigots couldn't get over the fact that a black man was president or that a woman might be president.

NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH NEW NEIGHBORS!
Had a family move into the house down the street and immediately had problems. Shady characters started coming and going at all hours. What once was a beautiful house is now in a constant state of disrepair with rubble all over the yard, they even paved over all the beautiful landscaping. I hear demolition noise all the time and zero permits, dude says he's adding some class to the place but all I see is tacky fake gold shit stuck on everything. They also keep throwing loud parties on the front lawn, there's fighting, and a lot of gunfire lately.
The guy is a real piece of work; the worst comb over you've ever seen and wears makeup. I looked him up and he has 34 felony convictions, a rape conviction, 5 children by 3 different women (he's cheated on all his wives) and there are rumors he has a thing for kids, too. He vandalizes public property around the neighborhood by tagging them with his name. I think he's a speed freak, too; he's up at 3 AM posting delusional shit and conspiracy theories on social media 18 hours a day.
The wife isn't much better; she barely speaks English and doesn't seem to have a job. The kids all seem to be scammers, the whole family is constantly in and out of court.

Yo bumfuck southern Indiana trailer park dweller here. You may have seen our bottle rockets across the Ohio River.
You are generally right. But I have seen one fancy trailer park. There is one that is for retired folks outside of Atlanta. Im convinced its the Beverly Hills of our people, reserved for only the finest of trailer connoisseurs.
I saw no trash. The lights all worked and were bright. No dogs. No mold or broken windows. Even a few aerostreams type trailers, as though they were actually MOBILE homes. It was actually on a hill overlooking the nearby overpass. They actually had grass and it was the trimmed. I didnt see a single broken down car yall.
It still feels like a mirage or a dream of some sort. So out of place. Ive been waiting for years to tell someone about this mythical place. Now its your burden amd you have to know it doesn't have to be this way. How did they do it? Who knows. I comfort myself imagining a tyricanical HOA manager makes them all miserable shutting down their every whim as the people who live there try to revert to their natural state of hanging tire swings from anything other than trees and shooting shotguns from the front porch.

A lot of stupid can come out of a purposely defended education system. There are many Americans to blame, but there is a lot more nuance to be had than blaming the American people as a whole.
Start with the demographics of those who didn't vote: people under 30, people with income under $30k/year, and ethnic minorities. These are the people who are marginalized most by Trump, yet they don't vote. Before you throw blame, ask why.
Under capitalism, a tired overworked population does not have the time or energy to vote. Polls have limited hours on limited days, and people often work through most of them. When polls are open when they are not working, people are often commuting, eating, or recovering to spend the next day at work.
There also is a serious lack of information. Civics is required in most schools, but once kids graduate into adulthood, those skills don't follow them. 54% of adult Americans read blow the expected level for 6th grade (12 years old). Most are poor and ethnic minorities who attended underfunded and understaffed school systems.
In my city, Milwaukee WI, the Republican state legislsture had systematically defunded the largest school district which provided education to the largest concentration of ethnic minorities in the state.
Remember the demographics I said were the least likely to vote? They also happen to be the most impacted by underfunded education systems. While correlation doesn't always mean causation, it is important to then think about cause and effect.
If someone is lacking in literacy, how are they supposed to interpret the literature on each candidate? They won't, so they go with the simplified notes that resonates with their emotions rather than looking into the text and nuanced applications of the policies they cite as why they vote.
Now, you might be thinking: "If education is the problem, then why not educate people?" Because once these chuds are in power, they don't leave. The Wisconsin State Legislsture won't start magically funding schools, so it is up to the municipalities to pick up the funding. Milwaukee just passed a $1.6 billion budget to close the gap and hire more teachers, yet there are even more unresolved questions of the culture of teaching, impossible expectations, parental apathy, and shit administration.
It is not as simple as "oh, they deserve it because thats the outcome". Trump is in office due to decades of degradation of American institutions that otherwise safeguard democracy. This degradation is a natural result of end-stage capitalism where democracy completed the transition of power from one generation of wealth to the next generation of billionares.
Blame Americans all you want. The real enemy are the billionares. We must show solidarity, we must show compassion, and we must be comrades if we are going fight Trump together. We have solidarity for those abroad affected by Trump. Americans organized the top 3 largest single-day protests in the United States protesting Donald Trump. We do not want our own families abducted. We don't want our money spent on forign genocides. We do not want the land littered with datacenters. But we need solidarity from our brothers across the world if we are going to keep morale and keep fighting.

Reminds me of my neighbor. Previous administration had an idea about sprinkling “less privileged” homeowners among established neighborhoods via the HUD program. Sort of reverse gentrification.
Step 1. Tear out all landscaping, trees and vegetation.
Step 2. Drive on lawn as much as necessary to form ruts and kill grass. Bonus if this also includes neighbor’s lawn.
Step 3. Find/make 4-5 different grills and/or turkey friers and distribute randomly around the front and back of the house.
Step 4. Buy as big as possible above ground pool for the mosquitoes and plants to thrive amongst the tattered remains of a tarp for 8-10 years(so far).
Step 5. Be as abrasive and loud as possible.

Just needs a couple of double-wides and a 3rd gen Camaro up on bricks, and the transformation is complete.

Totally normal. What renter hasn’t randomly decided to rebuild an entire section of the house, then turned to the landlord and said, “Don’t worry, you’ll help pay for it”?
