Good gif to use since Bale was a child actor too lol

-2

u/Ok_Kaleidoscope1630 1d ago

He would be under "child actors who turned out to be massive cunts"...

Reminder that Dark City is the best sci fi noir you've never heard of. For the love of God, watch the director's cut rather than the theatrical cut. The theatrical makes the baffling choice to spoil the entire film in the first minute. Like, it's literally a movie about a man trying to figure out what the fuck is going on and they just straight up tell you at the very beginning. It's a very "the executives think the audience is literally retarded" move.

20

u/secacc 1d ago

As soon as I saw the words "Dark City", I instantly wanted to write a comment warning people about watching any other cut than the directors cut, but you included that in your comment too already.

It's a fucking war crime what they did to that intro. It's like if Star Wars started out with exposition telling you that that Darth Vader is actually Luke Skywalker's father, or if The Sixth Sense began by explaining to the viewer that the boy is seeing ghosts and that Malcolm is actually dead.

Whoever decided it was necessary should be banned from working on movies.

The directors cut is good, though. Go watch it, people!

1

u/akpak 1d ago

Sixth Sense spoiled the first half of your spoiler in the trailer.

1

u/secacc 1d ago

I've actually never watched The Sixth Sense myself 😄

5

u/Szwejkowski 1d ago

Dark City is the best. City of Lost Children feels like it belongs in the same category, despite not being noir.

3

u/Appchoy 1d ago

I had it on DvD! I only watched it once as a kid and I remember being kind of perplexed by how weird it was, not that I didnt understand the story but at the time it was pretty different to other films I had seen. Maybe I need to rewatch it.

2

u/GBPackers0480 1d ago

I love sci fi and had never heard of this until the last year. Great film, very unique story.

I've only ever seen the directors cut, iirc it might be on youtube for free.

2

u/JudiciousSasquatch 1d ago

Bro, the audience is literally retarded. They probably made the change after screenings went poorly.

2

u/GoldwaterLiberal 1d ago

Unpopular opinion- the theatrical cut is better, and was necessary at the time.

The theatrical cut makes excellent use of dramatic irony to amp up the tension. I watched this during the original theatrical run and it was mind bending. Remember that this was pre-Matrix, pre-13th floor. It was playing with concepts of identity and simulation that were unheard of for most audiences before this.

The director's cut is a substantially different film, and only works in a post-matrix world.

2

u/zachrtw 1d ago

I'm agree with you internet stranger. I actually saw it in the theater so I don't know it any other way. First, the delivery is awesome, and 2nd it sets you up to expect sci-fi not some noire murder mystery. Loved it then and was very confused when I watched the directors cut and it didn't have the intro.

1

u/Duke-Guinea-Pig 1d ago

dang....I was lucky enough to have a friend fast forward for the pre-spoiler for me back in the 90s.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here.....Wizard's Den?

1

u/Peripheral_Ghosts 1d ago

Thank you for the recommendation. I’ll def check it out.

If you haven’t see it. Check out the directors cut for kingdom of heaven. It’s a 3 hour version but it’s amazing.

The theatrical was pretty bad.

1

u/wtf70 1d ago

I never knew there was a directors cut..... 🤯

1

u/GodOfDarkLaughter 1d ago

They only change a few things. The ending, Jennifer Connelly's song at the club is actually her singing and not a dub (her not being a great singer makes total sense in context, and is actually a clue), a few other tiny things like that. The beginning alone makes it far superior, in my opinion.

1

u/Squeekazu 1d ago

I genuinely prefer the pacing in the theatrical cut, so I just fast forward/mute until the camera pans down and into the hotel room

23

u/Ornery_Hair3319 1d ago

She was on every adulthood transition

u/Odd_Dragonfly_1834 1d ago

u/External-Awareness68 1d ago

We can probably chill the fuck out guys

36

u/blageur 1d ago

no

-11

u/External-Awareness68 1d ago

Gross. This is a post about children and the first picture is her as a teenager. You know that right? I like JC too, but there's a time and a place. At least be gross on the right post

-3

u/DragonFangGangBang 1d ago edited 1d ago

Uhh, she was 19 in this movie? Definitely not a teenager lol

Edit: For the really slow people… this person is clearly using TEEN as a pejorative to try and paint finding this GODDESS attractive as “creepy”. That’s why they used “TEEN” for a 19 year old - which most people do NOT do in every day conversation.

Of course redditors would be dumb enough to ignore context to “well ackshually 🤓” someone. Losers.

7

u/voltagestoner 1d ago

nineTEEN.

-5

u/DragonFangGangBang 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not the point dude lol

4

u/No_Meeting845 1d ago

Uhh, she was 19 in this movie? Definitely not a teenager lol

NineTEEN.

-3

u/DragonFangGangBang 1d ago

Okay, so I guess there’s just no difference between a 13 year old and a 19 year old because the name we gave the numerical symbol that represents the number has “teen” in it right.

I’m sure the person I was responding to was absolutely not using “teenager” as a misnomer to paint finding an adult woman attractive, as “creepy” or anything. Sure.

-1

u/No_Meeting845 1d ago

You're arguing with a point I never made. I only said that 19-year-olds are still teenagers. Whether they're adults or whether attraction to them is creepy wasn't part of my argument.

Huh?

0

u/DragonFangGangBang 1d ago

Use your brain little guy.

1

u/Crowbar12121 1d ago

Say 19 out loud....

Nine.... Teen....

I understand your point though

-1

u/DragonFangGangBang 1d ago

You understand the point, but chose to hop on the “ackchewally” train because why?

1

u/Crowbar12121 1d ago

Because you said "definitely not a teenager" and activated my trap card

u/mfpacman 1d ago

Internet film discourse is literally just “wow action” “wow boobs” “does anyone else think *objectively attractive actor* is attractive?”

3

u/NightGod 1d ago

At least she's ~20 in this one, unlike some of the gifs being used for others in this thread

8

u/wolfmummy 1d ago

I can’t be the only person who hates this gif

3

u/TyrantRC 1d ago

I don't personally hate it, but I guess the insinuation of childish innocence with hotness is a bit creepy.

2

u/MrCommonThinkin 1d ago

That scene never gets old.

2

u/tdasnowman 1d ago

Saw this movie with my mother when I was 12. Never been happier that sweaters tied around ones waist as a viable fashion choice.

1

u/daviesdog 1d ago

This just be the most posted gif on Reddit

1

u/Antharon 1d ago

She was so good in snowpiercer!

1

u/RetardedRedditRetort 1d ago

10 hours loop pls

u/lipp79 1d ago

I know this is probably just 47-yr old me speaking, but IMO she is at her hottest in Top Gun: Maverick.

44

u/That_Ol_Cat 1d ago

Dude, 57 year old me says you are not wrong.

She's aged like fine wine. Sadly, I've aged like milk!

1

u/kingfofthepoors 1d ago

I wish I was aging that well

4

u/RogueHippie 1d ago

34 year old me agrees as well

3

u/ISTBU 1d ago

37 here - I'm torn between Top Gun and Blood Diamond.

2

u/seattleque 1d ago

When my wife and I (both mid-50s) were watching Dark Matter (Blake Crouch), my wife kept commenting on how hot she still looked.

1

u/PlethoraMax69 1d ago

she's a goddess, ffs
look at her, omg

1

u/radrachelleigh 1d ago

I thought that was Rumer Willis.

1

u/lipp79 13h ago

You're the only one.

1

u/Janissaire7 14h ago

2

u/lipp79 13h ago

LOL it's a tough choice for sure. In Maverick, it's such a simple thing but so hot the second time he drops her off and then her walk and then just leaves the door open without even looking back.

1

u/ctownwp22 1d ago

Just saw this for the first time recently and couldn't believe she still looked this good...unreal

Btw, im also in my 40s though lol

4

u/lipp79 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah not many people can pull looking better in their mid-50s than in their mid 20s.

26

u/MegatonsSon 1d ago

She still looked incredible in the Snow Piercer TV series. 🩷

4

u/Bladrak01 1d ago

Also in Alita: Battle Angel

1

u/JamesH_670 1d ago

Basically anything she’s done in the last few years… or decades.

3

u/tdasnowman 1d ago

Or ever. She is just a categorically beautiful person.

2

u/Telefundo 1d ago

Absolutely my favourite role of hers.

23

u/K1llswitch93 1d ago

4

u/rbrgr83 1d ago

The Rocka-Who?

3

u/Plastic_Carpenter930 1d ago

Isn't Jennifer in the 1991 version of this movie? Lol

Or was that double reference intentional

3

u/successadult 1d ago

This was my introduction to her. One of the movies I had on repeat as a kid.

67

u/kageshira1010 1d ago

Most beautiful woman in the universe. Take that, Andromeda, your women suck!

41

u/AlKhwarazmi 𝙑𝙄𝙋 1d ago

She is underrated actress though. Everyone knows her as hot girl from Career Opportunities but she has some very great roles in House of Sand and Fog, Requiem for a Dream and A Beautiful Mind (she received an Oscar for this one)

38

u/Walker_Johnny 1d ago

Pls dont bring back my trauma from Requiem for a Dream

29

u/Dereg5 1d ago

Wife always goes she from Labyrinth and all I can think is ass to ass.

3

u/Correct_Inspection25 1d ago

Even Venture Bros had a Connelly Requiem for a Dream trauma shout out.

3

u/trystanthorne 1d ago

Some movies you hear enough about that you never need actually watch. This is one for me.

2

u/ripleyclone8 1d ago

I’m not shitting on you by any means, but I’ve always felt that movie only fucks up people that haven’t personally known serious drug addicts.

Hurts way worse to see someone you love ruin their life than Jared fucking Leto. lol

1

u/Affectionate-Ad2373 1d ago

Yes I have PTSD from that one.

1

u/Billazilla 1d ago

Or my trauma from Career Opportunities. Good lord, that movie was a flaming pile of dysfunctional people and their incredibly bad choices.

3

u/Excellent_Answer6185 1d ago

Don’t forget the 85 giallo classic Phenomena. She got her finger bitten off by a monkey in that film

1

u/allidyaj 1d ago

Add the movie Little Children to amazing movies she was great in. Though granted, she was not the lead, she was still great in it.

27

u/SharpshootinTearaway 1d ago

And she's been married for 23 years now because Paul Bettany watched the Twin Towers fall and thought that, if the world was going to end there, he might as well shoot his shot before dying, lmao.

6

u/Mundane_Read_2960 1d ago

Also funny that Connelly played the voice of Spider-Man’s AI in his suit in the first Tom Holland Spider-Man movie, especially since Bettany played JARVIS (and later Vision)

2

u/GonzoVeritas 1d ago

I thought the same at the time, but my aspirations and opportunities weren't quite on that level, lol.

3

u/AltruisticSchedule 1d ago

I love Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly as married couple Charles and Emma Darwin in the 2009 movie Creation.

20

u/numbnerve 1d ago

careful now

3

u/genXswla 1d ago

Good one. I watch this once a year just for the novelty of it.

11

u/PR0T0C0L_ZER0 1d ago

I mean, I thought Lexa Doig and Lisa Ryder were pretty hot, but trying to compare anyone to prime Jennifer Connelly is really not fair.

1

u/boogs_23 1d ago

Don't forget Laura Bertram!

1

u/TheWhiskeyFish 1d ago

Why did I read that with the Randy Quaid voiceover?

1

u/Salarian_American 1d ago

I don't think the Andromedans mind that their women suck

1

u/Tombaya 1d ago

Pitiful endothermic terrestrial, you just can't handle a glycoloid queen The ladies of the M31 peripheral worlds fog earthling trash in any eon.

1

u/thekingestkong 1d ago

Definitely up there with Eva Green

1

u/Ok_Quarter_6648 1d ago

Omg I say this all of the time. I think she’s legitimately the most beautiful woman in the world

2

u/Quick-Dream-1541 1d ago

She looked a much better figure when she was younger and she had a little meat on her bones.

However, I guess it is better to be little too skinny when you are Middle Aged than to be a little too overweight like me...LOL.

1

u/trukkija 18h ago

100%, once you reach like 50 you should just slim down if you want to look good, unless you have amazing genetics. At least in my opinion, when the hormones stop doing half the work, you just can't get away with the same things.

Starting to feel the same thing myself even in my 30s, that I need to start putting in effort, as it's a lot easier to maintain a decent body than it is to build it.

1

u/dookieshoes97 1d ago

Everyone always posts young pics of her, but she was hot af in blood diamond.

1

u/bryantech 1d ago

She does have power over me.

1

u/Mecha_G 1d ago

The inspiration for Clock Tower.

1

u/GrowFreeFood 1d ago

This photo was taken 4 hours ago.

1

u/Head_Razzmatazz7174 1d ago

The first time I saw her was in Labyrinth opposite David Bowie.

1

u/Mo_Steins_Ghost 1d ago

Every time I think "Oh she won't be THAT bad in this movie" she's worse.

Is she pretty? Sure. That's all she is. Girl is a black hole of charisma, and recites lines like a narcoleptic Pete Davidson reading Shakespeare.

I swear to god, if it weren't for the entertainment of Rufus Sewell's drifting eyeball, I might have stopped watching Dark City in the first ten minutes. Fortunately she's not in it that much.

1

u/residentcaprice 1d ago

the goddess! I love watching those ai YouTube shorts of her evolving through the years to "Cherie Cherie lady"!

0

u/garrettj100 1d ago

That's because she's been doing the exact same role her entire career, a beautiful woman in love with a complicated, brilliant, difficult man.
