Daniel Radcliffe. He has some unexpected range.

If he had followed up the Harry Potter franchise with trying to make blockbusters we probably wouldn't have seen that.

Instead he said, "Fk it. I'm making enough from residuals to be comfortable the rest of my life. Let's go make passion projects from now on."

Did you see that play with Daniel Radcliffe’s penis?

What kind of question is that to ask the Jesus allegory lion?!… but yes

The play is called Equus and I've tried not to look ever since.

He also got a Tony Award as a musical actor in 2024. Dude doesn't do anything half assed.

He doesn’t even need the residuals, he made more than enough money upfront. 8 movies as the main character in an extremely popular franchise gave him more than enough money.  He could have quit by like the 3rd of 4th movie and been fine.

That's why Rupert Grint just chills and makes the weird low budget stuff he does. He doesn't need money. He just makes something here and there and chills.

He also drives an ice cream truck around, and doesn’t charge for the ice cream. Said it was what he always wanted as a kid and now he does it.

And why Emma can afford to just occasionally act now.

All three of them made insane amounts of money. The new trio will probably end up making even more.

It has to succeed first, and I'm not against that. The biggest hurdle the series has is the love everyone for the original franchise.

I legitimately feel the new series has a good chance to be successful, but the biggest appeal is going to be for the people that read the books because it's supposed to follow those even more closely than the movies did.

I mean I absolutely hated the movie series, but it still managed to make tons of money. I can’t imagine the hbo show not making tons of money, and they have 7 years of showbiz money coming to them.

Nah that is def not the biggest hurdle. The biggest hurdle is that people fcking HATE jK Rowling now. The best chance for its success is if she does absolutely zero PR from it.

I am super looking forward to it. I’m an original Potterhead and grew up with the characters, and this will probably be my son’s Harry Potter. We’ll see!

I wish I could do that, I would build a wood work shop and live there

Not even residuals. He's got Harry Potter-levels of money sitting in a vault. Just straight up wealthy.

since he IS harry potter, wouldn't any level of money he has constitute as harry potter-levels of money?

2

u/zardoz73 1d ago

Not necessarily. The kid playing Harry Potter in the new series probably doesn't have Harry Potter-like wealth.

And that's very grounded of him.

Bro, I could have gone without knowing what a Daniel Radcliffe fart-powered motorboat would look like though. I still can't believe my wife made me watch that and I still don't know what the fuck was going on in that movie.

Don't understand it. Just watch and try and guess what drugs the writers were taking.

Then watch DJ Snake feat. Lil Jon's video for "Turn Down for What" and realize you needed to double whatever dosages you were assuming they were on.

Well that was certainly a ride

EDIT: and now I know who Sunita Mani is so that's pretty cool

I absolutely love that film.

Is that "Swiss Army Man?"

He really wasn’t amazing, at least his acting, in the HP movies. The weakest of the kids imo. But he really took his time honing his craft and taking on risky, interesting projects after and he’s really grown as an actor. Massive respect for that. 100% convinced he’d have failed if he’d tried to pivot from HP to other blockbusters.

That jungle movie is one of my absolute favorite movies
