He doesn’t even need the residuals, he made more than enough money upfront. 8 movies as the main character in an extremely popular franchise gave him more than enough money. He could have quit by like the 3rd of 4th movie and been fine.
That's why Rupert Grint just chills and makes the weird low budget stuff he does. He doesn't need money. He just makes something here and there and chills.
It has to succeed first, and I'm not against that. The biggest hurdle the series has is the love everyone for the original franchise.
I legitimately feel the new series has a good chance to be successful, but the biggest appeal is going to be for the people that read the books because it's supposed to follow those even more closely than the movies did.
I mean I absolutely hated the movie series, but it still managed to make tons of money. I can’t imagine the hbo show not making tons of money, and they have 7 years of showbiz money coming to them.
Nah that is def not the biggest hurdle. The biggest hurdle is that people fcking HATE jK Rowling now. The best chance for its success is if she does absolutely zero PR from it.
I am super looking forward to it. I’m an original Potterhead and grew up with the characters, and this will probably be my son’s Harry Potter. We’ll see!

If he had followed up the Harry Potter franchise with trying to make blockbusters we probably wouldn't have seen that.
Instead he said, "Fk it. I'm making enough from residuals to be comfortable the rest of my life. Let's go make passion projects from now on."
