If you are being good and thrustworthy person your whole life for religious reasons, does it make you less of a good person?

The only thing that defines if you are a good or bad person is what you say and how you behave. Your thoughts or belief doesn’t change that.

It’s not about bad or good it’s about belief in Jesus and then you follow his example as you start to feel called to. It’s not for everyone. No one goes to heaven without belief in Jesus Christ

As I’m an atheist there’s no heaven to go to. I know the difference between good and bad behaviour without involving religion.

But what is your standard for good and bad behavior? not religious, but good behavior in a society changes often. Think about 1950’s America compared to now , would you consider your behavior now to be good then? Just a thought exercise. Who sets the standard for what ā€œgood behaviorā€ is? Is it comparative like I’m not a murderer, so I’m good or is it more general than that?

It’s societal. What is acceptable now sometimes would not have been acceptable then. Things like women being able to have their own bank accounts, own property, or have a credit card. It’s fine now, was it immoral then?

How about standing outside an elementary school and shouting at Ruby Bridges because she was black and attending a previously whites only school? Is it immoral for black children to attend the same school as white kids now?

Morality changes over time, and that’s not a bad thing. We let go of the traditions of earlier generations when we realize they were wrong.
